The fearful and victorious armies of God against Nineveh.
 2:1 ¶
It is all over with him, he has been removed, [one] who has been delivered from affliction has come up panting into thy presence, watch the way, strengthen [thy] loins, be very valiant in [thy] strength. |
|
 2:1 ¶
He that dasheth in piecesºº
is come upºº
beforeº
thy face:º
keepºº
the munition,º
watchºº
the way,º
make [thy] loinsº
strong,ººº
fortifyºº
[thy] powerº
mightily.º |
 2:2
For the Lord has turned aside the pride of Jacob, as the pride of Israel: for they have utterly rejected them, and have destroyed their branches. |
|
 2:2
Forº
Yahwehº
hath turned awayººº
the excellencyº
of Jacob,º
as the excellencyº
of Israel:º
forº
the emptiersºº
have emptiedº
them out,ºº
and marredºº
their vine branches.º |
 2:3
[They have destroyed] the arms of their power from among men, their mighty men sporting with fire: the reins of their chariots [shall be destroyed] in the day of his preparation, and the horsemen shall be thrown into confusion |
|
 2:3
The shieldº
of his mighty menº
is made red,ºº
the valiantº
menºº
[are] in scarlet:ºº
the chariotsº
[shall be] with flamingº
torchesº
in the dayº
of his preparation,ºº
and the fir treesº
shall be terribly shaken.ºº |
 2:4
in the ways, and the chariots shall clash together, and shall be entangled in each other in the broad ways: their appearance is as lamps of fire, and as gleaming lightnings. |
|
 2:4
The chariotsº
shall rageºº
in the streets,º
they shall justle one against anotherºº
in the broad ways:º
they shall seemº
like torches,º
they shall runºº
like the lightnings.º |
 2:5
And their mighty men shall bethink themselves and flee by day; and they shall be weak as they go; and they shall hasten to her walls, and shall prepare their defences. |
|
 2:5
He shall recountºº
his worthies:º
they shall stumbleºº
in their walk;º
they shall make hasteºº
to the wallº
thereof, and the defenceºº
shall be prepared.ºº |
 2:6
The gates of the cities have been opened, and the palaces have fallen into ruin, |
|
 2:6
The gatesº
of the riversº
shall be opened,ºº
and the palaceº
shall be dissolved.ºº |
 2:7
and the foundation has been exposed; and she has gone up, and her maid-servants were led [away] as doves moaning in their hearts. |
|
 2:7
And Huzzabºº
shall be led away captive,ºº
she shall be brought up,ºº
and her maidsº
shall leadºº
[her] as with the voiceº
of doves,º
taberingºº
uponº
their breasts.º |
 2:8
And [as for] Nineveh{gr.Nineve}, her waters [shall be] as a pool of water: and they fled, and staid not, and there was none to look back. |
|
 2:8
But Ninevehº
[is] of oldºº
like a poolº
of water:º
yet theyº
shall flee away.ºº
Stand,ºº
stand,ºº
[shall they cry]; but noneº
shall look back.ºº |
 2:9
They plundered the silver, they plundered the gold, and there was no end of their adorning; they were loaded [with it] upon all their pleasant vessels. |
|
 2:9
Take ye the spoilºº
of silver,º
take the spoilºº
of gold:º
for [there is] noneº
endº
of the storeº
[and] gloryº
out of allºº
the pleasantº
furniture.º |
 2:10
[There is] thrusting forth, and shaking, and tumult, and heart-breaking, and loosing of knees, and pangs on all loins; and the faces of all [are] as the blackening of a pot. |
|
 2:10
She is empty,º
and void,º
and waste:ºº
and the heartº
melteth,ºº
and the kneesº
smite together,º
and much painº
[is] in allº
loins,º
and the facesº
of them allº
gatherºº
blackness.º |
 2:11
Where is the dwelling-place of the lions, and the pasture that belonged to the whelps? where did the lion go, that the lion's whelp should enter in there, and there was none to scare [him] away? |
|
 2:11
Whereº
[is] the dwellingº
of the lions,º
and the feedingplaceº
of the young lions,º
whereºº
the lion,º
[even] the old lion,º
walked,ºº
[and] the lion'sº
whelp,º
and noneº
made [them] afraid?ºº |
 2:12
The lion seized enough prey for his whelps, and strangled for his [young] lions, and filled his lair with prey, and his dwelling-place with spoil. |
|
 2:12
The lionº
did tear in piecesºº
enoughº
for his whelps,º
and strangledºº
for his lionesses,º
and filledºº
his holesº
with prey,º
and his densº
with ravin.º |
 2:13
Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord Almighty, and I will burn up thy multitude in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy lions; and I will utterly destroy thy prey from off the land, and thy deeds shall no more at all be heard of. |
|
 2:13
Behold,º
I [am] againstº
thee, saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth,º
and I will burnºº
her chariotsº
in the smoke,º
and the swordº
shall devourºº
thy young lions:º
and I will cut offºº
thy preyº
from the earth,ºº
and the voiceº
of thy messengersº
shall noº
moreº
be heard.ºº |
