 1:1 ¶ In the third 7969 year 8141 of the reign 4438 of Yæhôyäkîm יְהוֹיָקִים 3079 king 4428 of Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה 3063 came 935 z8804 Nævûȼađne´xxar נְבוּכַדנֶאצַּר 5019 king 4428 of Bävel בָּבֶל 894 unto Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם, 3389 and besieged 6696 z8799 x5921 it.

וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ לְאַשְׁפְּנַז רַב סָרִיסָיו לְהָבִיא מִבְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וּמִזֶּרַע הַמְּלוּכָה וּמִן־הַפַּרְתְּמִים

יְלָדִים אֲשֶׁר אֵין־בָּהֶם כָּל־*מְאוּם [מוּם] וְטוֹבֵי מַרְאֶה וּמַשְׂכִּילִים בְּכָל־חָכְמָה וְיֹדְעֵי דַעַת וּמְבִינֵי מַדָּע וַאֲשֶׁר כֹּחַ בָּהֶם לַעֲמֹד בְּהֵיכַל הַמֶּלֶךְ וּלֲלַמְּדָם סֵפֶר וּלְשׁוֹן כַּשְׂדִּים

וַיְמַן לָהֶם הַמֶּלֶךְ דְּבַר־יוֹם בְּיוֹמוֹ מִפַּת־בַּג הַמֶּלֶךְ וּמִיֵּין מִשְׁתָּיו וּלְגַדְּלָם שָׁנִים שָׁלוֹשׁ וּמִקְצָתָם יַעַמְדוּ לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ

וַיָּשֶׂם לָהֶם שַׂר הַסָּרִיסִים שֵׁמוֹת וַיָּשֶׂם לְדָנִיֵּאל בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּר וְלַחֲנַנְיָה שַׁדְרַךְ וּלְמִישָׁאֵל מֵישַׁךְ וְלַעֲזַרְיָה עֲבֵד נְגוֹ

 1:7 Unto whom the prince 8269 of the eunuchs 5631 gave 7760 z8799 names: 8034 for he gave 7760 z8799 unto Däniyyë´l דָּנִיֵּאל 1840 [the name] of Bëlţæša´xxar בֵּלטְשַׁאצַּר; 1095 and to Çánanyà חֲנַניָה, 2608 of Šađraȼ שַׁדרַך; 7714 and to Mîšä´ël מִישָׁאֵל, 4332 of Mêšaȼ מֵישַׁך; 4335 and to `Ázaryà עֲזַריָה, 5838 of `Ávëđ Næqô עֲבֵד־נְגוֹ. 5664

וַיָּשֶׂם דָּנִיֵּאל עַל־לִבּוֹ אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יִתְגָּאַל בְּפַתְבַּג הַמֶּלֶךְ וּבְיֵין מִשְׁתָּיו וַיְבַקֵּשׁ מִשַּׂר הַסָּרִיסִים אֲשֶׁר לֹא יִתְגָּאָל

 1:8 ¶ But Däniyyë´l דָּנִיֵּאל 1840 purposed 7760 z8799 in x5921 his heart 3820 that x834 he would not x3808 defile y1351 z8691 himself x1351 with the portion y6598 z0 of the king's y4428 meat, 6598 x4428 nor with the wine 3196 which he drank: 4960 therefore he requested 1245 z8762 of the prince 8269 x4480 of the eunuchs 5631 that x834 he might not x3808 defile y1351 z8691 himself. x1351

וַיִּתֵּן הָאֱלֹהִים אֶת־דָּנִיֵּאל לְחֶסֶד וּלְרַחֲמִים לִפְנֵי שַׂר הַסָּרִיסִים

 1:9 waYiTën häélohiym et-DäniYël l'chešed ûl'rachámiym lif'nëy sar haŠäriyšiym

 1:9 Now ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים 430 had brought 5414 z8799 x853 Däniyyë´l דָּנִיֵּאל 1840 into favour 2617 and tender love 7356 with 6440 the prince 8269 of the eunuchs. 5631

וַיֹּאמֶר שַׂר הַסָּרִיסִים לְדָנִיֵּאל יָרֵא אֲנִי אֶת־אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר מִנָּה אֶת־מַאֲכַלְכֶם וְאֶת־מִשְׁתֵּיכֶם אֲשֶׁר לָמָּה יִרְאֶה אֶת־פְּנֵיכֶם זֹעֲפִים מִן־הַיְלָדִים אֲשֶׁר כְּגִילְכֶם וְחִיַּבְתֶּם אֶת־רֹאשִׁי לַמֶּלֶךְ

 1:10 And the prince 8269 of the eunuchs 5631 said 559 z8799 unto Däniyyë´l דָּנִיֵּאל, 1840 I x589 fear y3373 x3372 x853 my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן 113 the king, 4428 who x834 hath appointed 4487 z8765 x853 your meat 3978 and your drink: 4960 for x834 why x4100 should he see 7200 z8799 x853 your faces 6440 worse liking 2196 z8802 than x4480 the children 3206 which x834 [are] of your sort? 1524 then shall ye make [me] endanger 2325 z8765 x853 my head 7218 to the king. 4428

וַיֹּאמֶר דָּנִיֵּאל אֶל־הַמֶּלְצַר אֲשֶׁר מִנָּה שַׂר הַסָּרִיסִים עַל־דָּנִיֵּאל חֲנַנְיָה מִישָׁאֵל וַעֲזַרְיָה

נַס־נָא אֶת־עֲבָדֶיךָ יָמִים עֲשָׂרָה וְיִתְּנוּ־לָנוּ מִן־הַזֵּרֹעִים וְנֹאכְלָה וּמַיִם וְנִשְׁתֶּה

 1:12 naš-nä et-ávädeykhä yämiym ásäräh w'yiT'nû-länû min-haZëroiym w'nokh'läh ûmayim w'nish'Teh

 1:12 Prove 5254 z8761 x853 thy servants, 5650 I beseech thee, x4994 ten 6235 days; 3117 and let them give 5414 z8799 us pulse 2235 to eat, 398 z8799 and water 4325 to drink. 8354 z8799

וְיֵרָאוּ לְפָנֶיךָ מַרְאֵינוּ וּמַרְאֵה הַיְלָדִים הָאֹכְלִים אֵת פַּתְבַּג הַמֶּלֶךְ וְכַאֲשֶׁר תִּרְאֵה עֲשֵׂה עִם־עֲבָדֶיךָ

 1:13 w'yëräû l'fäneykhä mar'ëynû ûmar'ëh hay'lädiym häokh'liym ët Pat'Bag haMelekh' w'khaásher Tir'ëh ásëh im-ávädeykhä

 1:13 Then let our countenances 4758 be looked upon 7200 z8735 before 6440 thee, and the countenance 4758 of the children 3206 that eat 398 z8802 x853 of the portion y6598 z0 of the king's y4428 meat: 6598 x4428 and as x834 thou seest, 7200 z8799 deal 6213 z8798 with x5973 thy servants. 5650

וַיִּשְׁמַע לָהֶם לַדָּבָר הַזֶּה וַיְנַסֵּם יָמִים עֲשָׂרָה

 1:15 And at the end 7117 x4480 of ten 6235 days 3117 their countenances 4758 appeared 7200 z8738 fairer 2896 and fatter 1277 in flesh 1320 than x4480 all x3605 the children 3206 which did eat 398 z8802 x853 the portion y6598 z0 of the king's y4428 meat. 6598 x4428

וַיְהִי הַמֶּלְצַר נֹשֵׂא אֶת־פַּתְבָּגָם וְיֵין מִשְׁתֵּיהֶם וְנֹתֵן לָהֶם זֵרְעֹנִים

 1:16 way'hiy haMel'tzar nosë et-Pat'Bägäm w'yëyn mish'Tëyhem w'notën lähem zër'oniym

 1:16 Thus Melxar מֶלצַר 4453 took away 5375 z8802 x853 the portion of their meat, 6598 and the wine 3196 that they should drink; 4960 and gave 5414 z8802 them pulse. 2235

וְהַיְלָדִים הָאֵלֶּה אַרְבַּעְתָּם נָתַן לָהֶם הָאֱלֹהִים מַדָּע וְהַשְׂכֵּל בְּכָל־סֵפֶר וְחָכְמָה וְדָנִיֵּאל הֵבִין בְּכָל־חָזוֹן וַחֲלֹמוֹת

 1:17 ¶ As for these x428 four 702 children, 3206 ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים 430 gave 5414 z8804 them knowledge 4093 and skill 7919 z8687 in all x3605 learning 5612 and wisdom: 2451 and Däniyyë´l דָּנִיֵּאל 1840 had understanding 995 z8689 in all x3605 visions 2377 and dreams. 2472

וּלְמִקְצָת הַיָּמִים אֲשֶׁר־אָמַר הַמֶּלֶךְ לַהֲבִיאָם וַיְבִיאֵם שַׂר הַסָּרִיסִים לִפְנֵי נְבֻכַדְנֶצַּר

וַיְדַבֵּר אִתָּם הַמֶּלֶךְ וְלֹא נִמְצָא מִכֻּלָּם כְּדָנִיֵּאל חֲנַנְיָה מִישָׁאֵל וַעֲזַרְיָה וַיַּעַמְדוּ לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ
