Ephesians 5

2 After general exhortations, to love, 3 to flee fornication, 4 and all uncleanness, 7 not to converse with the wicked, 15 to walk warily, and to be 18 filled with the Spirit, 22 he descendeth to the particular duties, how wives ought to obey their husbands, 25 and husbands ought to love their wives, 32 even as Christ doth his Church.

 5:1 Therefore 3767 be imitators 3402 of God 2316, as beloved 27 children 5043;

 5:2 and walk 4043 in love 26, just 2531a as Christ 5547 also 2532 loved 25 you and gave 3860 Himself 1438 up for us, an offering 4376 and a sacrifice 2378 to God 2316 as a fragrant 2175 aroma 3744.

 5:3 ¶ But immorality 4202 or 2532 any 3956 impurity 167 or 2228 greed 4124 must not even 3366 be named 3687 among 1722 you, as is proper 4241 among saints 40;

 5:4 and [there must be no] filthiness 151 and silly 3473 talk 3473, or 2228 coarse 2160 jesting 2160, which 3739 are not fitting 433, but rather 3123 giving 2169 of thanks 2169.

 5:5 For this 3778 you know 3609a with certainty 1097, that no 3756 3956 immoral 4205 or 2228 impure 169 person 169 or 2228 covetous 4123 man 4123, who 3739 is an idolater 1496, has 2192 an inheritance 2817 in the kingdom 932 of Christ 5547 and God 2316.

 5:6 ¶ Let no 3367 one 3367 deceive 538 you with empty 2756 words 3056, for because 1223 of these 3778 things 3778 the wrath 3709 of God 2316 comes 2064 upon the sons 5207 of disobedience 543.

 5:7 Therefore 3767 do not be partakers 4830 with them;

 5:8 for you were formerly 4218 darkness 4655, but now 3568 you are Light 5457 in the Lord 2962; walk 4043 as children 5043 of Light 5457

 5:9 (for the fruit 2590 of the Light 5457 [consists] in all 3956 goodness 19b and righteousness 1343 and truth 225),

 5:10 trying 1381a to learn 1381a what 5101 is pleasing 2101 to the Lord 2962.

 5:11 Do not participate 4790 in the unfruitful 175 deeds 2041 of darkness 4655, but instead 3123 even 2532 expose 1651 them;

 5:12 for it is disgraceful 150 even 2532 to speak 3004 of the things which are done 1096 by them in secret 2931b.

 5:13 But all 3956 things 3956 become 5319 visible 5319 when they are exposed 1651 by the light 5457, for everything 3956 that becomes 5319 visible 5319 is light 5457.

 5:14 For this 1352 reason 1352 it says 3004, “Awake 1453, sleeper 2518, And arise 450 from the dead 3498, And Christ 5547 will shine 2017 on you.”

 5:15 ¶ Therefore 3767 be careful 991 199 how 4459 you walk 4043, not as unwise 781 men 781 but as wise 4680,

 5:16 making 1805 the most 1805 of your time 2540, because 3754 the days 2250 are evil 4190.

 5:17 So 1223 3778 then 1223 3778 do not be foolish 878, but understand 4920 what 5101 the will 2307 of the Lord 2962 is.

 5:18 And do not get 3182 drunk 3182 with wine 3631, for that is dissipation 810, but be filled 4137 with the Spirit 4151,

 5:19 speaking 2980 to one 1438 another 1438 in psalms 5568 and hymns 5215 and spiritual 4152 songs 5603, singing 103 and making 5567 melody 5567 with your heart 2588 to the Lord 2962;

 5:21 and be subject 5293 to one 240 another 240 in the fear 5401 of Christ 5547.

 5:22 ¶ Wives 1135, [be subject] to your own 2398 husbands 435, as to the Lord 2962.

 5:23 For the husband 435 is the head 2776 of the wife 1135, as Christ 5547 also 2532 is the head 2776 of the church 1577, He Himself 846 [being] the Savior 4990 of the body 4983.

 5:24 But as the church 1577 is subject 5293 to Christ 5547, so 3779 also 2532 the wives 1135 [ought to be] to their husbands 435 in everything 3956.

 5:25 ¶ Husbands 435, love 25 your wives 1135, just 2531a as Christ 5547 also 2532 loved 25 the church 1577 and gave 3860 Himself 1438 up for her,

 5:26 so 2443 that He might sanctify 37 her, having cleansed 2511 her by the washing 3067 of water 5204 with the word 4487,

 5:27 that He might present 3936 to Himself 1438 the church 1577 in all 1741 her glory 1741, having 2192 no 3361 spot 4696 or 2228 wrinkle 4512 or 2228 any 5100 such 5108 thing 5108; but that she would be holy 40 and blameless 299b.

 5:28 So 3779 husbands 435 ought 3784 also 2532 to love 25 their own 1438 wives 1135 as their own 1438 bodies 4983. He who loves 25 his own 1438 wife 1135 loves 25 himself 1438;

 5:29 for no 3762 one 3762 ever 4218 hated 3404 his own 1438 flesh 4561, but nourishes 1625 and cherishes 2282 it, just 2531a as Christ 5547 also 2532 [does] the church 1577,

 5:30 because 3754 we are members 3196 of His body 4983.

 5:31 FOR THIS 3778 REASON 473 A MAN 444 SHALL LEAVE 2641 HIS FATHER 3962 AND MOTHER 3384 AND SHALL BE JOINED 4347 TO HIS WIFE 1135, AND THE TWO 1417 SHALL BECOME 1510 1519 ONE 1520 FLESH 4561.

 5:32 This 3778 mystery 3466 is great 3173; but I am speaking 3004 with reference 1519 to Christ 5547 and the church 1577.

 5:33 Nevertheless 4133, each 1538 individual 1520 among you also 2532 is to love 25 his own 1438 wife 1135 even as himself 1438, and the wife 1135 must [see to it] that she respects 5399 her husband 435.
