 4:1 ¶ But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,

 4:1 ¶ Nowº theº Spiritº speakethºº expressly,º thatº inº the latterº timesº someº shall departº fromºº theº faith,º giving heedºº to seducingº spirits,º andº doctrinesº of devils;º

 4:2 through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;

 4:2 Speaking liesº inº hypocrisy;º havingºº theirº conscienceº seared with a hot iron;ºº

 4:3 forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by them that believe and know the truth.

 4:3 Forbiddingºº to marry,ºº [and commanding] to abstainº fromºº meats,º whichº Godº hath createdºº toº be receivedºº withº thanksgivingº of them which believeº andº knowºº theº truth.º

 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving:

 4:4 Forº everyº creatureº of Godº [is] good,º andº nothingº to be refused,º if it be receivedºº withº thanksgiving:º

 4:5 for it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.

 4:5 Forº it is sanctifiedºº byº the wordº of Godº andº prayer.º

 4:6 If thou put the brethren in mind of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which thou hast followed [until now]:

 4:6 If thou putºº the brethrenº in remembranceºººº of these things,º thou shalt beºº a goodº ministerº of Jesusº Christ,º nourished upºº in theº wordsº of faithº andº of goodº doctrine,º whereuntoº thou hast attained.ºº

 4:7 but refuse profane and old wives' fables. And exercise thyself unto godliness:

 4:7 Butº refuseºº profaneº andº old wives'º fables,º andº exerciseºº thyselfº [rather] untoº godliness.º

 4:8 for bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come.

 4:8 Forº bodilyº exerciseº profitethººº little:ºº butº godlinessº isºº profitableº untoº all things,º havingºº promiseº of the lifeº that now is,º andº of that which is to come.ºº

 4:9 Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation.

 4:9 This [is] a faithfulº sayingº andº worthyº of allº acceptation.º

 4:10 For to this end we labor and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of them that believe.

 4:10 Forº thereforeºº weºº bothº labourºº andº suffer reproach,ºº becauseº we trustºº inº the livingºº God,º whoº isºº the Saviourº of allº men,º speciallyº of those that believe.º

 4:11 These things command and teach.

 4:11 These thingsº commandºº andº teach.ºº

 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an ensample to them that believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in faith, in purity.

 4:12 Letºº no manº despiseºº thyº youth;º butº beº thouºº an exampleº of theº believers,º inº word,º inº conversation,º inº charity,º inº spirit,º inº faith,º inº purity.º

 4:13 Till I come, give heed to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.

 4:13 Tillº I come,ºº give attendanceºº to reading,º to exhortation,º to doctrine.º

 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

 4:14 Neglectºº notº theº giftº that is inº thee,º whichº was givenºº theeº byº prophecy,º withº the laying onº of theº handsº of theº presbytery.º

 4:15 Be diligent in these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy progress may be manifest unto all.

 4:15 Meditate uponºº these things;º give thyselfºº whollyº toº them;º thatº thyº profitingº mayºº appearºº toº all.º

 4:16 Take heed to thyself, and to thy teaching. Continue in these things; for in doing this thou shalt save both thyself and them that hear thee.

 4:16 Take heedºº unto thyself,º andº unto theº doctrine;º continueºº in them:º forº in doingºº thisº thou shaltºº bothº saveºº thyself,º andº them that hearºº thee.º
