 1:1 ¶ Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus our hope;

 1:1 ¶ Paul,º an apostleº of Jesusº Christº byº the commandmentº of Godº ourº Saviour,º andº Lordº Jesusº Christ,º [whichº is] ourº hope;º

 1:2 unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

 1:2 Unto Timothy,º [my] ownº sonº inº the faith:º Grace,º mercy,º [and] peace,º fromº Godº ourº Fatherº andº Jesusº Christº ourº Lord.º

 1:3 As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine,

 1:3 Asº I besoughtºº theeº to abide stillººº atº Ephesus,º when I wentºº intoº Macedonia,º thatº thou mightest chargeºº someº that they teachºº noº other doctrine,ººº

 1:4 neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a dispensation of God which is in faith; [so do I now].

 1:4 Neitherº give heedºº to fablesº andº endlessº genealogies,º whichº ministerºº questions,º ratherº thanº godlyº edifyingºº whichº is inº faith:º [so do].

 1:5 But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned:

 1:5 Nowº theº endº of theº commandmentº isºº charityº out ofº a pureº heart,º andº [of] a goodº conscience,º andº [of] faithº unfeigned:º

 1:6 from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking;

 1:6 From whichº someº having swervedºº have turned asideºº untoº vain jangling;º

 1:7 desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm.

 1:7 Desiringºº to beºº teachers of the law;ºº understandingºº neitherº whatº they say,ºº norº whereofºº they affirm.ºº

 1:8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully,

 1:8 Butº we knowºº thatº theº lawº [is] good,º ifº a manº useºº itº lawfully;º

 1:9 as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

 1:9 Knowingºº this,º thatº the lawº isºº notº madeºº for a righteous man,º butº for the lawlessº andº disobedient,º for the ungodlyº andº for sinners,º for unholyº andº profane,º for murderers of fathersº andº murderers of mothers,º for manslayers,º

 1:10 for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;

 1:10 For whoremongers,º for them that defile themselves with mankind,º for menstealers,º for liars,º for perjured persons,º andº if there be anyº other thingº that is contraryºº to soundºº doctrine;º

 1:11 according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

 1:11 Accordingº to theº gloriousº gospelº of theº blessedº God,º whichº was committedº toºº myº trust.ººº

 1:12 I thank him that enabled me, [even] Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to [his] service;

 1:12 Andº I thankººº Christº Jesusº ourº Lord,º whoº hath enabledºº me,º forº thatº he countedºº meº faithful,º puttingº meºº intoº the ministry;º

 1:13 though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief;

 1:13 Whoº wasºº beforeº a blasphemer,º andº a persecutor,º andº injurious:º butº I obtained mercy,ºº becauseº I didºº [it] ignorantlyºº inº unbelief.º

 1:14 and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

 1:14 Andº theº graceº of ourº Lordº was exceeding abundantºº withº faithº andº loveº whichº is inº Christº Jesus.º

 1:15 Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief:

 1:15 This [is] a faithfulº saying,º andº worthyº of allº acceptation,º thatº Christº Jesusº cameºº intoº theº worldº to saveºº sinners;º of whomº Iº amºº chief.º

 1:16 howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life.

 1:16 Howbeitº for thisº causeºº I obtained mercy,ºº thatº inº meº firstº Jesusº Christº might shew forthºº allº longsuffering,º forº a patternº to them which should hereafterºº believeºº onº himº toº lifeº everlasting.º

 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, [be] honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

 1:17 Nowº unto theº Kingº eternal,º immortal,º invisible,º the onlyº wiseº God,º [be] honourº andº gloryº forº everº and ever.ºº Amen.º

 1:18 This charge I commit unto thee, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to thee, that by them thou mayest war the good warfare;

 1:18 Thisº chargeº I commitºº unto thee,º sonº Timothy,º accordingº toº theº propheciesº which went beforeºº onº thee,º thatº thouºº byº themº mightest warºº a goodº warfare;º

 1:19 holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith:

 1:19 Holdingºº faith,º andº a goodº conscience;º whichº someº having put awayºº concerningº faithº have made shipwreck:ºº

 1:20 of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.

 1:20 Of whomº isºº Hymenaeusº andº Alexander;º whomº I have deliveredºº unto Satan,º thatº they may learnºº notº to blaspheme.ºº
