 1:1 ¶ Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and [the] Saviour Jesus Christ:

 1:1 ¶ Simonº Peter,º a servantº andº an apostleº of Jesusº Christ,º to them that have obtainedºº like preciousº faithº with usº throughº the righteousnessº of Godº andº ourº Saviourº Jesusº Christ:º

 1:2 Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

 1:2 Graceº andº peaceº be multipliedºº unto youº throughº the knowledgeº of God,º andº of Jesusº ourº Lord,º

 1:3 seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue;

 1:3 According asº hisº divineº powerº hath givenºº unto usº all thingsº thatº [pertain] untoº lifeº andº godliness,º throughº theº knowledgeº of him that hath calledºº usº toº gloryº andº virtue:º

 1:4 whereby he hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in that world by lust.

 1:4 Wherebyºº are givenºº unto usº exceeding greatº andº preciousº promises:º thatº byº theseº ye might beºº partakersº of the divineº nature,º having escapedºº theº corruptionº that is inº the worldº throughº lust.º

 1:5 Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in [your] virtue knowledge;

 1:5 Andºº besideº this,ººº givingºº allº diligence,º addºº toº yourº faithº virtue;º andº toº virtueº knowledge;º

 1:6 and in [your] knowledge self-control; and in [your] self-control patience; and in [your] patience godliness;

 1:6 Andº toº knowledgeº temperance;º andº toº temperanceº patience;º andº toº patienceº godliness;º

 1:7 and in [your] godliness brotherly kindness; and in [your] brotherly kindness love.

 1:7 Andº toº godlinessº brotherly kindness;º andº toº brotherly kindnessº charity.º

 1:8 For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 1:8 Forº if these thingsº beºº in you,º andº abound,ºº they makeºº [you that ye shall] neitherº [be] barrenº norº unfruitfulº inº theº knowledgeº of ourº Lordº Jesusº Christ.º

 1:9 For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.

 1:9 Butº heº thatº lackethººº these thingsº isºº blind,º and cannot see afar off,ºº and hath forgottenººº that he was purgedº fromº hisºº oldº sins.º

 1:10 Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble:

 1:10 Whereforeº the rather,º brethren,º give diligenceºº to makeºº yourº callingº andº electionº sure:º forº if ye doºº these things,º ye shallººº neverºº fall:ººº

 1:11 for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

 1:11 Forº soº an entranceº shall be ministeredºº untoº youº abundantlyº intoº theº everlastingº kingdomº of ourº Lordº andº Saviourº Jesusº Christ.º

 1:12 Wherefore I shall be ready always to put you in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the truth which is with [you].

 1:12 Whereforeº I willºº notº be negligentºº to putºº youº alwaysº in remembranceºººº ofº these things,º thoughº ye knowºº [them], andº be establishedºº inº theº presentºº truth.º

 1:13 And I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

 1:13 Yea,º I thinkº itºº meet,º as long asºº I amºº inº thisº tabernacle,º to stirºº youº upººº byº putting [you] in remembrance;ºº

 1:14 knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle cometh swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ signified unto me.

 1:14 Knowingºº thatº shortlyº I mustºº put offº [this] myº tabernacle,º evenº asº ourº Lordº Jesusº Christº hath shewedºº me.º

 1:15 Yea, I will give diligence that at every time ye may be able after my decease to call these things to remembrance.

 1:15 Moreoverºº I will endeavourºº thatº yeº may be ableºº afterº myº deceaseº to haveººº these thingsº alwaysº in remembrance.ºº

 1:16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

 1:16 Forº we haveºº notº followedºº cunningly devisedºº fables,º when we made knownºº unto youº theº powerº andº comingº of ourº Lordº Jesusº Christ,º butº wereºº eyewitnessesº of hisº majesty.º

 1:17 For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there was borne such a voice to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased:

 1:17 Forº he receivedºº fromº Godº the Fatherº honourº andº glory,º when there cameºº suchº a voiceº to himº fromº theº excellentº glory,º Thisº isºº myº belovedº Son,º inº whomº Iº am well pleased.ºº

 1:18 and this voice we [ourselves] heard borne out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.

 1:18 Andº thisº voiceº which cameºº fromº heavenº weº heard,ºº when we wereºº withº himº inº theº holyº mount.º

 1:19 And we have the word of prophecy [made] more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:

 1:19 We haveºº alsoº a more sureº wordº of prophecy;º whereuntoº ye doºº wellº that ye take heed,ºº asº unto a lightº that shinethºº inº a darkº place,º untilºº theº dayº dawn,ºº andº the day starº ariseºº inº yourº hearts:º

 1:20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation.

 1:20 Knowingºº thisº first,º thatº noºº prophecyº of the scriptureº isºº of any privateº interpretation.º

 1:21 For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.

 1:21 Forº the prophecyº cameºº notº in old timeº by the willº of man:º butº holyº menº of Godº spakeºº [as they were] movedºº byº the Holyº Ghost.º
