 8:1 ¶
In the third year of the reign of king Belteshazzar{gr.Baltasar} a vision appeared to me, [even] to me Daniel, after that which appeared to me at the first. |
|
 8:1 ¶
In the thirdº
yearº
of the reignº
of kingº
Belshazzarº
a visionº
appearedºº
untoº
me, [even unto] meº
Daniel,º
afterº
thatº
which appearedºº
untoº
me at the first.º |
 8:2
And I was in Shushan{gr.Susa} the palace, which is in the land of Elam{gr.Aelam}, and I was on the [bank of] Ubal. |
 8:2
And I sawºº
in a vision;º
and it came to pass,º
when I saw,ºº
that Iº
[was] at Shushanº
[in] the palace,º
whichº
[is] in the provinceº
of Elam;º
and I sawºº
in a vision,º
and Iº
wasº
byº
the riverº
of Ulai.º |
 8:3
And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, a ram standing in front of the Ubal; and he had high horns; and one was higher than the other, and the high one came up last. |
 8:3
Then I lifted upºº
mine eyes,º
and saw,ºº
and, behold,º
there stoodºº
beforeº
the riverº
aº
ramº
which had [two] horns:º
and the [two] hornsº
[were] high;º
but oneº
[was] higherº
thanº
the other,º
and the higherº
came upºº
last.º |
 8:4
And I saw the ram butting westward, and northward, and southward; and no beast could stand before him, and there was none that could deliver out of his hand; and he did according to his will, and became great. |
 8:4
I sawººº
the ramº
pushingºº
westward,º
and northward,º
and southward;º
so that noºº
beastsº
might standºº
beforeº
him, neitherº
[was there any] that could deliverºº
out of his hand;ºº
but he didºº
according to his will,º
and became great.ºº |
 8:5
And I was considering, and, behold, a he-goat came from the south-west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the earth: and the goat [had] a horn between his eyes. |
 8:5
And as Iº
wasº
considering,ºº
behold,º
an heº
goatºº
cameºº
fromº
the westº
onº
the faceº
of the wholeº
earth,º
and touchedºº
notº
the ground:º
and the goatº
[had] a notableº
hornº
betweenº
his eyes.º |
 8:6
And he came to the ram that had the horns, which I had seen standing in front of the Ubal, and he ran at him with the violence of his strength. |
 8:6
And he cameºº
toº
the ramº
that hadº
[two] horns,º
whichº
I had seenºº
standingºº
beforeº
the river,º
and ranºº
untoº
him in the furyº
of his power.º |
 8:7
And I saw him coming up close to the ram, and he was furiously enraged against him, and he smote the ram, and broke both his horns: and there was no strength in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him on the ground, and trampled on him; and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand. |
 8:7
And I sawºº
him comeºº
closeº
untoº
the ram,º
and he was moved with cholerºº
againstº
him, and smoteººº
the ram,º
and brakeººº
his twoº
horns:º
and there wasº
noº
powerº
in the ramº
to standºº
beforeº
him, but he cast him downºº
to the ground,º
and stampedºº
uponº
him: and there wasº
noneº
that could deliverºº
the ramº
out of his hand.ºº |
 8:8
And the he-goat grew exceedingly great: and when he was strong, his great horn was broken; and four other [horns] rose up in its place toward the four winds of heaven. |
 8:8
Therefore the heº
goatºº
waxed veryº
great:ºººº
and when he was strong,ºº
the greatº
hornº
was broken;ºº
and forº
it came upºº
fourº
notable onesº
toward the fourº
windsº
of heaven.º |
 8:9
And out of one of them came forth one strong horn, and it grew very great toward the south, and toward the host: |
 8:9
And out ofº
oneº
ofº
them came forthºº
aº
littleºº
horn,º
which waxed exceedingº
great,ººº
towardº
the south,º
and towardº
the east,º
and towardº
the pleasantº
[land]. |
 8:10
and it magnified itself to the host of heaven; and there fell to the earth [some] of the host of heaven and of the stars, and they trampled on them. |
 8:10
And it waxed great,ºº
[even] toº
the hostº
of heaven;º
and it cast downºº
[some] ofº
the hostº
and ofº
the starsº
to the ground,º
and stampedºº
uponº
them. |
 8:11
And [this shall be] until the chief captain shall have delivered the captivity: and by reason of him the sacrifice was disturbed, and he prospered; and the holy place shall be made desolate. |
 8:11
Yea, he magnifiedºº
[himself] even toº
the princeº
of the host,º
and byº
him the dailyº
[sacrifice] was taken away,ºººº
and the placeº
of his sanctuaryº
was cast down.ºº |
 8:12
And a sin-offering was given for the sacrifice, and righteousness was cast down to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. |
 8:12
And an hostº
was givenºº
[him] againstº
the dailyº
[sacrifice] by reason of transgression,º
and it cast downºº
the truthº
to the ground;º
and it practised,ºº
and prospered.ºº |
 8:13 ¶
And I heard one saint speaking, and a saint said to a certain one speaking, How long shall the vision continue, [even] the removal of the sacrifice, and the bringing in of the sin of desolation; and [how long] shall the sanctuary and host be trampled? |
 8:13 ¶
Then I heardºº
oneº
saintº
speaking,ºº
and anotherº
saintº
saidºº
unto that certainº
[saint] which spake,ºº
How longºº
[shall be] the visionº
[concerning] the dailyº
[sacrifice], and the transgressionº
of desolation,ºº
to giveºº
both the sanctuaryº
and the hostº
to be trodden under foot?º |
 8:14
And he said to him, Evening and morning [there shall be] two thousand and four hundred days; and [then] the sanctuary shall be cleansed. |
 8:14
And he saidºº
untoº
me, Untoº
two thousandº
and threeº
hundredº
days;ºº
then shall the sanctuaryº
be cleansed.ºº |
 8:15 ¶
And it came to pass, as I, [even] I Daniel, saw the vision, and sought to understand it, that, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man. |
 8:15 ¶
And it came to pass,º
when I, [even] Iº
Daniel,º
had seenººº
the vision,º
and soughtºº
for the meaning,º
then, behold,º
there stoodºº
beforeº
me as the appearanceº
of a man.º |
 8:16
And I heard the voice of a man between [the banks of] the Ubal; and he called, and said, Gabriel, cause that man to understand the vision. |
 8:16
And I heardºº
a man'sº
voiceº
betweenº
[the banks of] Ulai,º
which called,ºº
and said,ºº
Gabriel,º
make thisº
[man] to understandººº
the vision.º |
 8:17
And he came and stood near where I stood: and when he came, I was struck with awe, and fell upon my face: but he said to me, Understand, son of man: for yet the vision is for an appointed time. |
 8:17
So he cameºº
nearº
where I stood:º
and when he came,ºº
I was afraid,ºº
and fellºº
uponº
my face:º
but he saidºº
untoº
me, Understand,ºº
O sonº
of man:º
forº
at the timeº
of the endº
[shall be] the vision.ºº |
 8:18
And while he spoke with me, I fell upon my face to the earth: and he touched me, and set me on my feet. |
 8:18
Now as he was speakingºº
withº
me, I was in a deep sleepºº
onº
my faceº
toward the ground:º
but he touchedºº
me, and setºº
me upright.ºº |
 8:19
And he said, Behold, I make thee know the things that shall come to pass at the end of the wrath: for the vision [is] yet for an appointed time. |
 8:19
And he said,ºº
Behold,º
I will make thee knowººº
whatº
shall beº
in the last endº
of the indignation:º
forº
at the time appointedº
the endº
[shall be]. |
 8:20
The ram which thou sawest that had the horns is the king of the Medes and Persians. |
 8:20
The ramº
whichº
thou sawestºº
havingº
[two] hornsº
[are] the kingsº
of Mediaº
and Persia.º |
 8:21
The he-goat is the King of the Greeks: and the great horn which was between his eyes, he is the first king. |
 8:21
And the roughº
goatº
[is] the kingº
of Grecia:º
and the greatº
hornº
thatº
[is] betweenº
his eyesº
[is] the firstº
king.º |
 8:22
And [as for] the one that was broken, in whose place there stood up four horns, four kings shall arise out of his nation, but not in their [own] strength. |
 8:22
Now that being broken,ºº
whereas fourº
stood upºº
forº
it, fourº
kingdomsº
shall stand upºº
out of the nation,ºº
but notº
in his power.º |
 8:23
And at the latter time of their kingdom, when their sins are coming to the full, there shall arise a king bold in countenance, and understanding riddles. |
 8:23
And in the latter timeº
of their kingdom,º
when the transgressorsºº
are come to the full,ºº
a kingº
of fierceº
countenance,º
and understandingºº
dark sentences,º
shall stand up.ºº |
 8:24
And his power [shall be] great, and he shall destroy wonderfully, and prosper, and practise, and shall destroy mighty men, and the holy people. |
 8:24
And his powerº
shall be mighty,ºº
but notº
by his own power:º
and he shall destroyºº
wonderfully,ºº
and shall prosper,ºº
and practise,ºº
and shall destroyºº
the mightyº
and the holyº
people.º |
 8:25
And the yoke of his chain shall prosper: [there is] craft in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by craft shall destroy many, and he shall stand up for the destruction of many, and shall crush them as eggs in his hand. |
 8:25
And throughº
his policyº
also he shall cause craftº
to prosperºº
in his hand;º
and he shall magnifyºº
[himself] in his heart,º
and by peaceº
shall destroyºº
many:º
he shall also stand upºº
againstº
the Princeº
of princes;º
but he shall be brokenºº
withoutº
hand.º |
 8:26
And the vision of the evening and morning that was mentioned is true: and do thou seal the vision; for [it is] for many days. |
 8:26
And the visionº
of the eveningº
and the morningº
whichº
was toldºº
[is] true:º
wherefore shut thou upººº
the vision;º
forº
it [shall be] for manyº
days.º |
 8:27
And I Daniel fell asleep, and was sick: then I arose, and did the king's business; and I wondered at the vision, and there was none that understood [it]. |
 8:27
And Iº
Danielº
fainted,ºº
and was sickºº
[certain] days;º
afterward I rose up,ºº
and didººº
the king'sº
business;º
and I was astonishedºº
atº
the vision,º
but noneº
understoodºº
[it]. |
