 1:1 ¶ In the secondº yearº of Däryäweš דָּריָוֶשׁº the king,º in the sixthº month,º in the firstº dayº of the month,º cameº the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº byº Çaggay חַגַּיº the prophetº untoº Zærubbävel זְרֻבָּבֶלº the sonº of Šæ´altî´ël שְׁאַלתִּיאֵל,º governorº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º and toº Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº the sonº of Yæhôxäðäk יְהוֹצָדָק,º the highº priest,º saying,ºº

 1:1 ¶ In the second year of Daryawesh the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of Yahweh by Chaggay the prophet unto Zerubbavel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Yehudah, and to Yehoshua the son of Yehotzadaq, the high priest, saying,

 1:2 Thusº speakethºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº Xævä´ô± צְבָאוֹת,º saying,ºº Thisº peopleº say,ºº The timeº is notº come,ºº the timeº that Yähwè's יָהוֶהº houseº should be built.ºº

 1:2 Thus speaketh Yahweh Tzevaoth, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that Yahweh's house should be built.

 1:3 Then cameº the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº byº Çaggay חַגַּיº the prophet,º saying,ºº

 1:3 Then came the word of Yahweh by Chaggay the prophet, saying,

 1:4 [Is it] timeº for you, O ye,º to dwellºº in your cieledºº houses,º and thisº houseº [lie] waste?º

 1:4 [Is it] time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house [lie] waste?

 1:5 Nowº therefore thusº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº Xævä´ô± צְבָאוֹת;º Considerºººº your ways.º

 1:5 Now therefore thus saith Yahweh Tzevaoth; Consider your ways.

 1:6 Ye have sownºº much,ºº and bringºº inº little;º ye eat,ºº but ye have not enough;ººº ye drink,ºº but ye are not filled with drink;ººº ye clotheºº you, but there is none warm;ººº and he that earneth wagesºº earneth wagesºº [to put it] intoº a bagº with holes.ºº

 1:6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages [to put it] into a bag with holes.

 1:7 ¶ Thusº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº Xævä´ô± צְבָאוֹת;º Considerºººº your ways.º

 1:7 ¶ Thus saith Yahweh Tzevaoth; Consider your ways.

 1:8 Go upºº to the mountain,º and bringºº wood,º and buildºº the house;º and I will take pleasureºº in it, and I will be glorified,ºº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 1:8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Yahweh.

 1:9 Ye lookedºº forº much,ºº and, lo,º [it came] to little;º and when ye broughtºº [it] home,º I did blowºº upon it. Why?ºº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº Xævä´ô± צְבָאוֹת.º Becauseº of mine houseº thatº [is] waste,º and yeº runºº every manº unto his own house.º

 1:9 Ye looked for much, and, lo, [it came] to little; and when ye brought [it] home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith Yahweh Tzevaoth. Because of mine house that [is] waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.

 1:10 Thereforeºº the heavenº overº you is stayedºº from dew,ºº and the earthº is stayedºº [from] her fruit.º

 1:10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed [from] her fruit.

 1:11 And I calledºº for a droughtº uponº the land,º and uponº the mountains,º and uponº the corn,º and uponº the new wine,º and uponº the oil,º and uponº [that] whichº the groundº bringeth forth,ºº and uponº men,º and uponº cattle,º and uponº allº the labourº of the hands.º

 1:11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon [that] which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

 1:12 ¶ Then Zærubbävel זְרֻבָּבֶלº the sonº of Šæ´altî´ël שְׁאַלתִּיאֵל,º and Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº the sonº of Yæhôxäðäk יְהוֹצָדָק,º the highº priest,º with allº the remnantº of the people,º obeyedºº the voiceº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº their ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º and the wordsº of Çaggay חַגַּיº the prophet,º asº Yähwè יָהוֶהº their ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº had sentºº him, and the peopleº did fearºº beforeºº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 1:12 ¶ Then Zerubbavel the son of Shealtiel, and Yehoshua the son of Yehotzadaq, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Yahweh their Elohim, and the words of Chaggay the prophet, as Yahweh their Elohim had sent him, and the people did fear before Yahweh.

 1:13 Then spakeºº Çaggay חַגַּיº Yähwè's יָהוֶהº messengerº in Yähwè's יָהוֶהº messageº unto the people,º saying,ºº Iº [am] withº you, saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 1:13 Then spake Chaggay Yahweh's messenger in Yahweh's message unto the people, saying, I [am] with you, saith Yahweh.

 1:14 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº stirred upººº the spiritº of Zærubbävel זְרֻבָּבֶלº the sonº of Šæ´altî´ël שְׁאַלתִּיאֵל,º governorº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º and the spiritº of Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº the sonº of Yæhôxäðäk יְהוֹצָדָק,º the highº priest,º and the spiritº of allº the remnantº of the people;º and they cameºº and didºº workº in the houseº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº Xævä´ô± צְבָאוֹת,º their ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º

 1:14 And Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Zerubbavel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Yehudah, and the spirit of Yehoshua the son of Yehotzadaq, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of Yahweh Tzevaoth, their Elohim,

 1:15 In the fourº and twentiethº dayº of the sixthº month,º in the secondº yearº of Däryäweš דָּריָוֶשׁº the king.º
