 3:1 ¶ Woeº to the bloodyº city!º it [is] allº fullº of liesº [and] robbery;º the preyº departethºº not;º

 3:1 ¶ Woe to the bloody city! it [is] all full of lies [and] robbery; the prey departeth not;

 3:2 The noiseº of a whip,º and the noiseº of the rattlingº of the wheels,º and of the pransingºº horses,º and of the jumpingºº chariots.º

 3:2 The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.

 3:3 The horsemanº lifteth upºº both the brightº swordº and the glitteringº spear:º and [there is] a multitudeº of slain,º and a greatº numberº of carcases;º and [there is] noneº endº of [their] corpses;º they stumbleºººº upon their corpses:º

 3:3 The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and [there is] a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and [there is] none end of [their] corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

 3:4 Because of the multitudeºº of the whoredomsº of the wellfavouredºº harlot,ºº the mistressº of witchcrafts,º that sellethºº nationsº through her whoredoms,º and familiesº through her witchcrafts.º

 3:4 Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

 3:5 Behold,º I [am] againstº thee, saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº Xævä´ô± צְבָאוֹת;º and I will discoverºº thy skirtsº uponº thy face,º and I will shewºº the nationsº thy nakedness,º and the kingdomsº thy shame.º

 3:5 Behold, I [am] against thee, saith Yahweh Tzevaoth; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

 3:6 And I will castºº abominable filthº uponº thee, and make thee vile,ºº and will setºº thee as a gazingstock.º

 3:6 And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.

 3:7 And it shall come to pass,º [that] allº they that lookºº uponº thee shall fleeºº fromº thee, and say,ºº Nînwì נִינוֵהº is laid waste:ºº whoº will bemoanºº her? whenceºº shall I seekºº comfortersºº for thee?

 3:7 And it shall come to pass, [that] all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Ninweh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

 3:8 Art thou betterºº than populousººº Nö´ נֹא,ºº that was situateºº among the rivers,º [that had] the watersº round aboutº it, whoseº rampartº [was] the sea,º [and] her wallº [was] from the sea?ºº

 3:8 Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, [that had] the waters round about it, whose rampart [was] the sea, [and] her wall [was] from the sea?

 3:9 Cûš כּוּשׁº and Mixrayim מִצרַיִםº [were] her strength,º and [it was] infinite;ºº Pû+ פּוּטº and Lûvîm לוּבִיםº wereº thy helpers.º

 3:9 Kush and Mitzrayim [were] her strength, and [it was] infinite; Put and Luvim were thy helpers.

 3:10 Yetº [was] sheº carried away,º she wentºº into captivity:º her young childrenº alsoº were dashed in piecesºº at the topº of allº the streets:º and they castºº lotsº forº her honourable men,ºº and allº her great menº were boundºº in chains.º

 3:10 Yet [was] she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

 3:11 Thouº alsoº shalt be drunken:ºº thou shalt beº hid,ºº thouº alsoº shalt seekºº strengthº because of the enemy.ººº

 3:13 Behold, thy people in the midst of thee [are] women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.

 3:14 Drawºº thee watersº for the siege,º fortifyºº thy strong holds:º goºº into clay,º and treadºº the morter,º make strongºº the brickkiln.º

 3:14 Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.

 3:15 Thereº shall the fireº devourºº thee; the swordº shall cut thee off,ºº it shall eat thee upºº like the cankerworm:º make thyself manyºº as the cankerworm,º make thyself manyºº as the locusts.º

 3:15 There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.

 3:16 Thou hast multipliedºº thy merchantsºº above the starsºº of heaven:º the cankerwormº spoileth,ºº and flieth away.ºº

 3:18 Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Ashshur: thy nobles shall dwell [in the dust]: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth [them].

 3:19 [There is] noº healingº of thy bruise;º thy woundº is grievous:ºº allº that hearºº the bruitº of thee shall clapºº the handsº overº thee: forº uponº whomº hath notº thy wickednessº passedºº continually?º

 3:19 [There is] no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
