1 Joel, declaring sundry judgments of God, exhorteth to observe them, 8 and to mourn. 14 He prescribeth a fast for complaint.

 1:1 The word 1697 of the LORD 3068 that came 1961 to Joel 3100, the son 1121 of Pethuel 6602:

 1:2 Hear 8085 this 2088, O elders 2205, And listen 238, all 3605 inhabitants 3427 of the land 776. Has [anything like] this 2088 happened 1961 in your days 3117 Or 518 in your fathers’ 1 days 3117?

 1:3 Tell 5608 your sons 1121 about it, And [let] your sons 1121 [tell] their sons 1121, And their sons 1121 the next 312 generation 1755.

 1:4 ¶ What 3499a the gnawing 1501 locust 1501 has left 3499a, the swarming 697 locust 697 has eaten 398; And what 3499a the swarming 697 locust 697 has left 3499a, the creeping 3218 locust 3218 has eaten 398; And what 3499a the creeping 3218 locust 3218 has left 3499a, the stripping 2625 locust 2625 has eaten 398.

 1:5 Awake 7019a, drunkards 7910, and weep 1058; And wail 3213, all 3605 you wine 3196 drinkers 8354, On account 5921 of the sweet 6071 wine 6071 That is cut 3772 off 3772 from your mouth 6310.

 1:6 For a nation 1471 has invaded 5927 my land 776, Mighty 6099 and without 369 number 4557; Its teeth 8127 are the teeth 8127 of a lion 743b, And it has the fangs 4973 of a lioness 3833b.

 1:7 It has made 7760 my vine 1612 a waste 8047 And my fig 8384 tree 8384 splinters 7111. It has stripped 2834 them bare 2834 and cast 7993 [them] away 7993; Their branches 8299 have become 3835a white 3835a.

 1:8 ¶ Wail 421 like a virgin 1330 girded 2296 with sackcloth 8242 For the bridegroom 1167 of her youth 5271.

 1:9 The grain offering 4503 and the drink 5262a offering 5262a are cut 3772 off 3772 From the house 1004 of the LORD 3068. The priests 3548 mourn 56, The ministers 8334 of the LORD 3068.

 1:10 The field 7704 is ruined 7703, The land 127 mourns 56; For the grain 1715 is ruined 7703, The new 8492 wine 8492 dries 3001 up, Fresh 3323 oil 3323 fails 535.

 1:11 Be ashamed 954, O farmers 406, Wail 3213, O vinedressers 3755, For the wheat 2406 and the barley 8184; Because 3588 the harvest 7105a of the field 7704 is destroyed 6.

 1:12 The vine 1612 dries 3001 up And the fig 8384 tree 8384 fails 535; The pomegranate 7416, the palm 8558 also 1571, and the apple 8598 tree 8598, All 3605 the trees 6086 of the field 7704 dry 3001 up. Indeed 3588, rejoicing 8342 dries 3001 up From the sons 1121 of men 120.

 1:13 ¶ Gird 2296 yourselves 2296 [with sackcloth] And lament 5594, O priests 3548; Wail 3213, O ministers 8334 of the altar 4196! Come 935, spend 3885a the night 3885a in sackcloth 8242 O ministers 8334 of my God 430, For the grain offering 4503 and the drink 5262a offering 5262a Are withheld 4513 from the house 1004 of your God 430.

 1:14 Consecrate 6942 a fast 6685, Proclaim 7121 a solemn 6116 assembly 6116; Gather 622 the elders 2205 [And] all 3605 the inhabitants 3427 of the land 776 To the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 your God 430, And cry 2199 out to the LORD 3068.

 1:15 Alas 162 for the day 3117! For the day 3117 of the LORD 3068 is near 7138, And it will come 935 as destruction 7701 from the Almighty 7706b.

 1:16 Has not food 400 been cut 3772 off 3772 before 5048 our eyes 5869, Gladness 8057 and joy 1524a from the house 1004 of our God 430?

 1:17 The seeds 6507 shrivel 5685 under 8478 their clods 4053; The storehouses 214 are desolate 8074, The barns 4460 are torn 2040 down 2040, For the grain 1715 is dried 3001 up.

 1:18 How 4100 the beasts 929 groan 584! The herds 5739 of cattle 1241 wander 943 aimlessly 943 Because 3588 there 369 is no 369 pasture 4829 for them; Even 1571 the flocks 5739 of sheep 6629 suffer 816.

 1:19 To You, O LORD 3068, I cry 7121; For fire 784 has devoured 398 the pastures 4999 of the wilderness 4057b And the flame 3852 has burned 3857 up all 3605 the trees 6086 of the field 7704.

 1:20 Even 1571 the beasts 929 of the field 7704 pant 6165 for You; For the water 4325 brooks 650 are dried 3001 up And fire 784 has devoured 398 the pastures 4999 of the wilderness 4057b.
