 2:1 ¶ And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep went from him.

 2:1 ¶ And in the secondº yearº of the reignº of Nebuchadnezzarº Nebuchadnezzarº dreamedºº dreams,º wherewith his spiritº was troubled,ºº and his sleepº brakeºº fromº him.

 2:2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the enchanters, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.

 2:2 Then the kingº commandedºº to callºº the magicians,º and the astrologers,º and the sorcerers,ºº and the Chaldeans,º for to shewºº the kingº his dreams.º So they cameºº and stoodºº beforeº the king.º

 2:3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.

 2:3 And the kingº saidºº unto them, I have dreamedºº a dream,º and my spiritº was troubledºº to knowººº the dream.º

 2:4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in the Syrian language, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.

 2:4 Then spakeºº the Chaldeansº to the kingº in Syriack,º O king,º liveºº for ever:º tellºº thy servantsº the dream,º and we will shewºº the interpretation.º

 2:5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye make not known unto me the dream and the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

 2:5 The kingº answeredºº and saidºº to the Chaldeans,º The thingº is goneºº fromº me:º ifº ye will notº make knownºº unto me the dream,º with the interpretationº thereof, ye shall be cutºº in pieces,º and your housesº shall be madeºº a dunghill.º

 2:6 But if ye show the dream and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honor: therefore show me the dream and the interpretation thereof.

 2:6 But ifº ye shewºº the dream,º and the interpretationº thereof, ye shall receiveºº ofºº meº giftsº and rewardsº and greatº honour:º thereforeº shewºº me the dream,º and the interpretationº thereof.

 2:7 They answered the second time and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.

 2:7 They answeredºº againº and said,ºº Let the kingº tellºº his servantsº the dream,º and we will shewºº the interpretationº of it.

 2:8 The king answered and said, I know of a certainty that ye would gain time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.

 2:8 The kingº answeredºº and said,ºº Iº knowºº ofº certaintyº thatº yeº would gainºº the time,º becauseººº ye seeººº the thingº is goneºº fromº me.

 2:9 But if ye make not known unto me the dream, there is but one law for you; for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can show me the interpretation thereof.

 2:9 Butº ifº ye will notº make knownºº unto me the dream,º [there is but] oneºº decreeº for you: for ye have preparedºº lyingº and corruptºº wordsº to speakºº beforeº me, tillºº the timeº be changed:ºº thereforeº tellºº me the dream,º and I shall knowºº thatº ye can shewºº me the interpretationº thereof.

 2:10 ¶ The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter, forasmuch as no king, lord, or ruler, hath asked such a thing of any magician, or enchanter, or Chaldean.

 2:10 ¶ The Chaldeansº answeredºº beforeº the king,º and said,ºº There isº notº a manº uponº the earthº thatº canºº shewºº the king'sº matter:º thereforeººº [there is] noºº king,º lord,º nor ruler,º [that] askedºº suchº thingsºº at anyº magician,º or astrologer,º or Chaldean.º

 2:11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is no other that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

 2:11 And [it is] a rareº thingº thatº the kingº requireth,ºº and there isº noneº otherº thatº can shewºº it beforeº the king,º exceptº the gods,º whoseº dwellingº isº notº withº flesh.º

 2:12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

 2:12 Forº thisº causeººº the kingº was angryºº and veryº furious,ºº and commandedºº to destroyºº allº the wiseº [men] of Babylon.º

 2:13 So the decree went forth, and the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions to be slain.

 2:13 And the decreeº went forthºº that the wiseº [men] should be slain;ºº and they soughtºº Danielº and his fellowsº to be slain.ºº

 2:14 ¶ Then Daniel returned answer with counsel and prudence to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, who was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon;

 2:14 ¶ Thenº Danielº answeredºº with counselº and wisdomº to Ariochº the captainº ofº the king'sº guard,º whichº was gone forthºº to slayºº the wiseº [men] of Babylon:º

 2:15 he answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Wherefore is the decree so urgent from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

 2:15 He answeredºº and saidºº to Ariochº the king'sºº captain,º Whyºº [is] the decreeº [so] hastyºº fromºº the king?º Thenº Ariochº made the thingº knownººº to Daniel.º

 2:16 And Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would appoint him a time, and he would show the king the interpretation.

 2:16 Then Danielº went in,ºº and desiredºº ofº the kingº thatº he would giveºº him time,º and that he would shewºº the kingº the interpretation.º

 2:17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:

 2:17 Thenº Danielº wentºº to his house,º and made the thingº knownººº to Hananiah,º Mishael,º and Azariah,º his companions:º

 2:18 that they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions should nor perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

 2:18 That they would desireºº merciesº ofºº the Godº of heavenº concerningº thisº secret;º thatº Danielº and his fellowsº should notº perishºº withº the restº of the wiseº [men] of Babylon.º

 2:19 ¶ Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

 2:19 ¶ Thenº was the secretº revealedºº unto Danielº in a nightºº vision.º Thenº Danielº blessedºº the Godº of heaven.º

 2:20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; for wisdom and might are his.

 2:20 Danielº answeredºº and said,ºº Blessedºº beºº the nameº ofº Godº forº everº and ever:ººº forº wisdomº and mightº areº his:

 2:21 And he changeth the times and the seasons; he removeth kings, and setteth up kings; he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that have understanding;

 2:21 And heº changethºº the timesº and the seasons:º he removethºº kings,º and setteth upºº kings:º he givethºº wisdomº unto the wise,º and knowledgeº to them that knowºº understanding:º

 2:22 he revealeth the deep and secret things; he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

 2:22 Heº revealethºº the deepº and secret things:ºº he knowethºº whatº [is] in the darkness,º and the lightº dwellethºº withº him.º

 2:23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast now made known unto me what we desired of thee; for thou hast made known unto us the king's matter.

 2:23 Iº thankºº thee, and praiseºº thee, O thou Godº of my fathers,º whoº hast givenºº me wisdomº and might,º and hast made knownºº unto me nowº whatº we desiredºº ofº thee:º forº thou hast [now] made knownºº unto us the king'sº matter.º

 2:24 ¶ Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and said thus unto him: Destroy not the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will show unto the king the interpretation.

 2:24 ¶ Thereforeººº Danielº went inºº untoº Arioch,º whomº the kingº had ordainedºº to destroyºº the wiseº [men] of Babylon:º he wentºº and saidºº thusº unto him; Destroyºº notº the wiseº [men] of Babylon:º bring me inººº beforeº the king,º and I will shewºº unto the kingº the interpretation.º

 2:25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the children of the captivity of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.

 2:25 Thenº Ariochº brought inºº Danielº beforeº the kingº in haste,ºº and saidºº thusº unto him, I have foundºº a manº ofº the captivesºº ofºº Judah,º thatº will make knownºº unto the kingº the interpretation.º

 2:26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?

 2:26 The kingº answeredºº and saidºº to Daniel,º whoseº nameº [was] Belteshazzar,º Artº thou ableºº to make knownºº unto me the dreamº whichº I have seen,ºº and the interpretationº thereof?

 2:27 Daniel answered before the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded can neither wise men, enchanters, magicians, nor soothsayers, show unto the king;

 2:27 Danielº answeredºº in the presenceº ofº the king,º and said,ºº The secretº whichº the kingº hath demandedºº cannotººº the wiseº [men], the astrologers,º the magicians,º the soothsayers,ºº shewºº unto the king;º

 2:28 but there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and he hath made known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these:

 2:28 Butº there isº a Godº in heavenº that revealethºº secrets,º and maketh knownºº to the kingº Nebuchadnezzarº whatºº shall beºº in the latterº days.º Thy dream,º and the visionsº of thy headº uponº thy bed,º are these;º

 2:29 as for thee, O king, thy thoughts came [into thy mind] upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter; and he that revealeth secrets hath made known to thee what shall come to pass.

 2:29 As for thee,º O king,º thy thoughtsº cameºº [into thy mind] uponº thy bed,º whatºº should come to passºº hereafter:ºº and he that revealethºº secretsº maketh knownºº to thee whatºº shall come to pass.ºº

 2:30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that thou mayest know the thoughts of thy heart.

 2:30 But as for me,º thisº secretº is notº revealedºº to me for [any] wisdomº thatº I haveº more thanº anyº living,º butº for [their] sakesºº thatºº shall make knownºº the interpretationº to the king,º and that thou mightest knowºº the thoughtsº of thy heart.º

 2:31 ¶ Thou, O king, sawest, and, behold, a great image. This image, which was mighty, and whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the aspect thereof was terrible.

 2:31 ¶ Thou,º O king,º sawest,ºººº and beholdº aº greatºº image.º Thisº greatº image,º whose brightnessº [was] excellent,º stoodºº beforeº thee; and the formº thereof [was] terrible.ºº

 2:32 As for this image, its head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,

 2:32 Thisº image'sº headº [was] ofº fineº gold,º his breastº and his armsº ofº silver,º his bellyº and his thighsº ofº brass,º

 2:33 its legs of iron, its feet part of iron, and part of clay.

 2:33 His legsº ofº iron,º his feetº partº ofº ironº and partº ofº clay.º

 2:34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them in pieces.

 2:34 Thou sawestºººº tillº thatº a stoneº was cut outºº withoutºº hands,º which smoteºº the imageº uponº his feetº [that were] ofº ironº and clay,º and brakeºº themº to pieces.ººº

 2:35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

 2:35 Thenº was the iron,º the clay,º the brass,º the silver,º and the gold,º broken to piecesºººº together,º and becameºº like the chaffº ofº the summerº threshingfloors;º and the windº carriedºº themº away,ººº thatº noºº placeº was foundºº for them: and the stoneº thatº smoteºº the imageº becameºº a greatº mountain,º and filledºº the wholeº earth.º

 2:36 ¶ This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.

 2:36 ¶ Thisº [is] the dream;º and we will tellºº the interpretationº thereof beforeº the king.º

 2:37 Thou, O king, art king of kings, unto whom the God of heaven hath given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory;

 2:37 Thou,º O king,º [art] a kingº of kings:º forº the Godº of heavenº hath givenºº thee a kingdom,º power,º and strength,º and glory.º

 2:38 and wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens hath he given into thy hand, and hath made thee to rule over them all: thou art the head of gold.

 2:38 And wheresoeverºº the childrenº of menº dwell,ºº the beastsº of the fieldº and the fowlsº of the heavenº hath he givenºº into thine hand,º and hath made thee rulerºº over them all.º Thouº [art] thisº headº ofº gold.º

 2:39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee; and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

 2:39 And afterº thee shall ariseºº anotherº kingdomº inferiorº toº thee,º and anotherº thirdº kingdomº ofº brass,º whichº shall bear ruleºº over allº the earth.º

 2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things; and as iron that crusheth all these, shall it break in pieces and crush.

 2:40 And the fourthº kingdomº shall beºº strongº as iron:º forasmuch asººº ironº breaketh in piecesºº and subduethºº allº [things]: and asº ironº thatº breakethºº allº these,º shall it break in piecesºº and bruise.ºº

 2:41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

 2:41 And whereasº thou sawestºº the feetº and toes,º partº ofº potters'º clay,º and partº of iron,º the kingdomº shall beºº divided;ºº butºº there shall beºº in it ofº the strengthº ofº the iron,º forasmuch asººº thou sawestºº the ironº mixedºº with miryº clay.º

 2:42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

 2:42 And [as] the toesº of the feetº [were] partº of iron,º and partº of clay,º [so] the kingdomº shall beºº partlyºº strong,º and partlyºº broken.ºº

 2:43 And whereas thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron doth not mingle with clay.

 2:43 And whereasº thou sawestºº ironº mixedºº with miryº clay,º they shallº mingle themselvesºººº with the seedº of men:º but they shallºº notº cleaveºº oneº toº another,º evenº asºº ironº is notº mixedºº withº clay.º

 2:44 And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty thereof be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

 2:44 And in the daysº ofº theseº kingsº shall the Godº of heavenº set upºº a kingdom,º whichº shall neverºº be destroyed:ºº and the kingdomº shall notº be leftºº to otherº people,º [but] it shall break in piecesºº and consumeºº allº theseº kingdoms,º and itº shall standºº for ever.º

 2:45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

 2:45 Forasmuch asººº thou sawestºº thatº the stoneº was cut outºº of the mountainºº withoutºº hands,º and that it brake in piecesºº the iron,º the brass,º the clay,º the silver,º and the gold;º the greatº Godº hath made knownºº to the kingº whatºº shall come to passºº hereafter:ºº and the dreamº [is] certain,º and the interpretationº thereof sure.ºº

 2:46 ¶ Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odors unto him.

 2:46 ¶ Thenº the kingº Nebuchadnezzarº fellºº uponº his face,º and worshippedºº Daniel,º and commandedºº that they should offerºº an oblationºº and sweet odoursº unto him.

 2:47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou hast been able to reveal this secret.

 2:47 The kingº answeredºº unto Daniel,º and said,ºº Ofº a truthº [it is], thatº your Godº [is] a Godº of gods,º and a Lordº of kings,º and a revealerºº of secrets,º seeingº thou couldestºº revealºº thisº secret.º

 2:48 Then the king made Daniel great, and gave him many great gifts, and made him to rule over the whole province of Babylon, and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

 2:48 Thenº the kingº madeºº Danielº a great man,ººº and gaveºº him manyº greatº gifts,º and made him rulerºº overº the wholeº provinceº of Babylon,º and chiefº of the governorsº overº allº the wiseº [men] of Babylon.º

 2:49 And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel was in the gate of the king.

 2:49 Then Danielº requestedºº ofº the king,º and he setºº Shadrach,º Meshach,º and Abednego,º overº the affairsº ofº the provinceº of Babylon:º but Danielº [sat] in the gateº of the king.º
