 6:1 ¶ It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty satraps, who should be throughout the whole kingdom;

 6:1 ¶ It pleasedººº Dariusº to setºº overº the kingdomº an hundredº and twentyº princes,º whichº should beºº over the wholeº kingdom;º

 6:2 and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one; that these satraps might give account unto them, and that the king should have no damage.

 6:2 And overºº theseº threeº presidents;º of whomºº Danielº [was] first:º thatºº theº princesº mightºº giveºº accountsº unto them, and the kingº should haveºº noº damage.ºº

 6:3 Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

 6:3 Thenº thisº Danielº wasºº preferredºº aboveº the presidentsº and princes,º becauseººº an excellentº spiritº [was] in him; and the kingº thoughtºº to setºº him overº the wholeº realm.º

 6:4 ¶ Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel as touching the kingdom; but they could find no occasion nor fault, forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

 6:4 ¶ Thenº the presidentsº and princesº soughtºººº to findºº occasionº against Danielº concerningºº the kingdom;º butº they couldºº findºº noneºº occasionº norº fault;ºº forasmuchº asººº heº [was] faithful,ºº neitherº was there anyº errorº or faultºº foundºº inº him.º

 6:5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

 6:5 Thenº saidºº theseº men,º We shall notº findºº anyº occasionº againstº thisº Daniel,º exceptº we findºº [it] againstº him concerning the lawº of his God.º

 6:6 Then these presidents and satraps assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.

 6:6 Thenº theseº presidentsº and princesº assembled togetherºº toº the king,º and saidºº thusº unto him,º Kingº Darius,º liveºº for ever.º

 6:7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the deputies and the satraps, the counsellors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a strong interdict, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

 6:7 Allº the presidentsº of the kingdom,º the governors,º and the princes,º the counsellors,º and the captains,º have consulted togetherºº to establishºº a royalº statute,º and to make a firmºº decree,º thatº whosoeverºº shall askºº a petitionº ofº anyº Godº or manº forº thirtyº days,º saveº ofº thee,º O king,º he shall be castºº into the denº of lions.º

 6:8 Now, O king, establish the interdict, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

 6:8 Now,º O king,º establishºº the decree,º and signºº the writing,º thatº it be notº changed,ºº according to the lawº of the Medesº and Persians,º whichº alterethºº not.º

 6:9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the interdict.

 6:9 Whereforeººº kingº Dariusº signedºº the writingº and the decree.º

 6:10 ¶ And when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

 6:10 ¶ Now whenº Danielº knewºº thatº the writingº was signed,ºº he wentºº into his house;º and his windowsº being openºº in his chamberº towardº Jerusalem,º heº kneeledºº uponº his kneesº threeº timesº a day,º and prayed,ºº and gave thanksºº beforeº his God,º asººº he didºººº aforetime.ººº

 6:11 Then these men assembled together, and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God.

 6:11 Thenº theseº menº assembled,ºº and foundºº Danielº prayingºº and making supplicationºº beforeº his God.º

 6:12 Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's interdict: Hast thou not signed an interdict, that every man that shall make petition unto any god or man within thirty days, save unto thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

 6:12 Thenº they came near,ºº and spakeºº beforeº the kingº concerningº the king'sº decree;º Hast thou notº signedºº a decree,º thatº everyº manº thatº shall askºº [a petition] ofº anyº Godº or manº withinº thirtyº days,º saveº ofº thee,º O king,º shall be castºº into the denº of lions?º The kingº answeredºº and said,ºº The thingº [is] true,º according to the lawº of the Medesº and Persians,º whichº alterethºº not.º

 6:13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the interdict that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

 6:13 Thenº answeredºº they and saidºº beforeº the king,º Thatº Daniel,º whichº [is] ofº the childrenº of the captivityº ofº Judah,º regardethºººº notº thee,º O king,º nor the decreeº thatº thou hast signed,ºº but makethºº his petitionº threeº timesº a day.º

 6:14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored till the going down of the sun to rescue him.

 6:14 Thenº the king,º whenº he heardºº [these] words,º was soreº displeasedºº withº himself, and setºº [his] heartº onº Danielº to deliverºº him: and he labouredºººº tillº the going downº of the sunº to deliverºº him.

 6:15 Then these men assembled together unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians, that no interdict nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

 6:15 Thenº theseº menº assembledºº untoº the king,º and saidºº unto the king,º Know,ºº O king,º thatº the lawº of the Medesº and Persiansº [is], Thatº noºº decreeº nor statuteº whichº the kingº establishethºº may be changed.ºº

 6:16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. [Now] the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

 6:16 Thenº the kingº commanded,ºº and they broughtºº Daniel,º and castºº [him] into the denº ofº lions.º [Now] the kingº spakeºº and saidºº unto Daniel,º Thy Godº whomº thouº servestºº continually,º heº will deliverºº thee.

 6:17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.

 6:17 And aº stoneº was brought,ºº and laidºº uponº the mouthº of the den;º and the kingº sealedºº it with his own signet,º and with the signetº of his lords;º thatº the purposeº might notº be changedºº concerning Daniel.º

 6:18 ¶ Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting; neither were instruments of music brought before him: and his sleep fled from him.

 6:18 ¶ Thenº the kingº wentºº to his palace,º and passed the nightºº fasting:º neitherº were instrumentsº of musickº broughtºº beforeº him: and his sleepº wentºº fromº him.º

 6:19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

 6:19 Thenº the kingº aroseºº very earlyº in the morning,ºº and wentºº in hasteºº unto the denº ofº lions.º

 6:20 And when he came near unto the den to Daniel, he cried with a lamentable voice; the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

 6:20 And when he cameºº to the den,º he criedºº with a lamentableºº voiceº unto Daniel:º [and] the kingº spakeºº and saidºº to Daniel,º O Daniel,º servantº of the livingº God,º is thy God,º whomº thouº servestºº continually,º ableºº to deliverºº thee fromº the lions?º

 6:21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

 6:21 Thenº saidºº Danielº untoº the king,º O king,º liveºº for ever.º

 6:22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me; forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

 6:22 My Godº hath sentºº his angel,º and hath shutºº the lions'º mouths,º that they have notº hurtºº me: forasmuch asººº beforeº him innocencyº was foundºº in me; and alsoº beforeº thee, O king,º have I doneºº noº hurt.º

 6:23 Then was the king exceeding glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he had trusted in his God.

 6:23 Thenº was the kingº exceedingº gladºººº forº him,º and commandedºº that they should takeºº Danielº upººº out ofº the den.º So Danielº was taken upºº out ofº the den,º and noº mannerºº of hurtº was foundºº upon him, becauseº he believedºº in his God.º

 6:24 ¶ And the king commanded, and they brought those men that had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces, before they came to the bottom of the den.

 6:24 ¶ And the kingº commanded,ºº and they broughtºº thoseº menº whichº had accusedººº Daniel,ºº and they castºº [them] into the denº of lions,º them,º their children,º and their wives;º and the lionsº had the masteryººº of them, and brakeºº allº their bonesº in piecesºººº or everº they cameººººº at the bottomº of the den.º

 6:25 ¶ Then king Darius wrote unto all the peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied unto you.

 6:25 ¶ Thenº kingº Dariusº wroteºº unto allº people,º nations,º and languages,º thatº dwellºº in allº the earth;º Peaceº be multipliedºº unto you.

 6:26 I make a decree, that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, And his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed; and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

 6:26 Iºº makeºººº a decree,º Thatº in everyº dominionº of my kingdomº men trembleººº and fearºº beforeºº the Godº ofº Daniel:º forº heº [is] the livingº God,º and stedfastº for ever,º and his kingdomº [that] whichº shall notº be destroyed,ºº and his dominionº [shall be even] untoº the end.º

 6:27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

 6:27 He deliverethºº and rescueth,ºº and he workethºº signsº and wondersº in heavenº and in earth,º whoº hath deliveredºº Danielº fromº the powerº of the lions.º

 6:28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

 6:28 So thisº Danielº prosperedºº in the reignº of Darius,º and in the reignº of Cyrusº the Persian.º
