 4:1 ¶ Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all the peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied unto you.

 4:1 ¶ Nebuchadnezzarº the king,º unto allº people,º nations,º and languages,º thatº dwellºº in allº the earth;º Peaceº be multipliedºº unto you.

 4:2 It hath seemed good unto me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God hath wrought toward me.

 4:2 I thoughtº it goodººº to shewºº the signsº and wondersº thatº the highº Godº hath wroughtºº towardº me.

 4:3 How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

 4:3 Howº greatº [are] his signs!º and howº mightyº [are] his wonders!º his kingdomº [is] an everlastingº kingdom,º and his dominionº [is] fromº generationº to generation.º

 4:4 ¶ I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.

 4:4 ¶ Iº Nebuchadnezzarº wasºº at restºº in mine house,º and flourishingº in my palace:º

 4:5 I saw a dream which made me afraid; and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

 4:5 I sawºº a dreamº which made me afraid,ºº and the thoughtsº uponº my bedº and the visionsº of my headº troubledºº me.

 4:6 Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

 4:6 Thereforeºº madeººº Iº a decreeº to bringºº inº allº the wiseº [men] of Babylonº beforeº me, thatº they might make knownºº unto me the interpretationº of the dream.º

 4:7 Then came in the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers; and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

 4:7 Thenº cameºº inº the magicians,º the astrologers,º the Chaldeans,º and the soothsayers:ºº and Iº toldºº the dreamº beforeº them; but they did notº make knownºº unto me the interpretationº thereof.

 4:8 ¶ But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and I told the dream before him, [saying],

 4:8 ¶ But atº the lastº Danielº came inºº beforeº me,º whoseº nameº [was] Belteshazzar,º according to the nameº of my god,º and in whomº [is] the spiritº of the holyº gods:º and beforeº him I toldºº the dream,º [saying],

 4:9 O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.

 4:9 O Belteshazzar,º masterº of the magicians,º becauseº Iº knowºº thatº the spiritº of the holyº godsº [is] in thee, and noºº secretº troublethºº thee, tellºº me the visionsº of my dreamº thatº I have seen,ºº and the interpretationº thereof.

 4:10 Thus were the visions of my head upon my bed: I saw, and, behold, a tree in the midst of the earth; and the height thereof was great.

 4:10 Thus [were] the visionsº of mine headº inº my bed;º I saw,ºººº and beholdº a treeº in the midstº of the earth,º and the heightº thereof [was] great.º

 4:11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth.

 4:11 The treeº grew,ºº and was strong,ºº and the heightº thereof reachedºº unto heaven,º and the sightº thereof to the endº of allº the earth:º

 4:12 The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was food for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the birds of the heavens dwelt in the branches thereof, and all flesh was fed from it.

 4:12 The leavesº thereof [were] fair,º and the fruitº thereof much,º and in it [was] meatº for all:º the beastsº of the fieldº had shadowºº underº it, and the fowlsº of the heavenº dweltºº in the boughsº thereof, and allº fleshº was fedºº ofº it.º

 4:13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from heaven.

 4:13 I sawºººº in the visionsº of my headº uponº my bed,º and, behold,º a watcherº and an holy oneº came downºº fromº heaven;º

 4:14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from its branches.

 4:14 He criedºº aloud,º and saidºº thus,º Hew downº the tree,º and cut offºº his branches,º shake offºº his leaves,º and scatterºº his fruit:º let the beastsº get awayºº fromº underº it,º and the fowlsº fromº his branches:º

 4:15 Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven: and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

 4:15 Neverthelessº leaveºº the stumpº of his rootsº in the earth,º even with a bandº ofº ironº and brass,º in the tender grassº ofº the field;º and let it be wetºº with the dewº of heaven,º and [let] his portionº [be] withº the beastsº in the grassº of the earth:º

 4:16 let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

 4:16 Let his heartº be changedºº fromº man's,º and let a beast'sº heartº be givenºº unto him; and let sevenº timesº passº overº him.

 4:17 The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the lowest of men.

 4:17 This matterº [is] by the decreeº of the watchers,º and the demandº by the wordº of the holy ones:º toº the intentº thatº the livingº may knowºº thatº the most Highº rulethº in the kingdomº of men,º and givethºº it to whomsoeverºº he will,ºº and setteth upºº overº it the basestº of men.º

 4:18 This dream I, king Nebuchadnezzar, have seen; and thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation; but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

 4:18 Thisº dreamº Iº kingº Nebuchadnezzarº have seen.ºº Now thou,º O Belteshazzar,º declareºº the interpretationº thereof, forasmuch asººº allº the wiseº [men] of my kingdomº are notº ableººº to make knownºº unto me the interpretation:º but thouº [art] able;ºº forº the spiritº of the holyº godsº [is] in thee.

 4:19 ¶ Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken dumb for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine adversaries.

 4:19 ¶ Thenº Daniel,º whoseº nameº [was] Belteshazzar,º was astoniedºº for oneº hour,º and his thoughtsº troubledºº him. The kingº spake,ºº and said,ºº Belteshazzar,º let notº the dream,º or the interpretationº thereof, troubleºº thee. Belteshazzarº answeredºº and said,ºº My lord,º the dreamº [be] to them that hateºº thee, and the interpretationº thereof to thine enemies.º

 4:20 The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;

 4:20 The treeº thatº thou sawest,ºº whichº grew,ºº and was strong,ºº whose heightº reachedºº unto the heaven,º and the sightº thereof to allº the earth;º

 4:21 whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was food for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the birds of the heavens had their habitation:

 4:21 Whose leavesº [were] fair,º and the fruitº thereof much,º and in it [was] meatº for all;º underº which the beastsº of the fieldº dwelt,ºº and upon whose branchesº the fowlsº of the heavenº had their habitation:ºº

 4:22 it is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong; for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

 4:22 Itº [is] thou,º O king,º thatº art grownºº and become strong:ºº for thy greatnessº is grown,ºº and reachethºº unto heaven,º and thy dominionº to the endº of the earth.º

 4:23 And whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of heaven: and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;

 4:23 And whereasº the kingº sawºº a watcherº and an holy oneº coming downºº fromº heaven,º and saying,ºº Hewºº the treeº down,ºº and destroyºº it; yetº leaveºº the stumpº of the rootsº thereof in the earth,º even with a bandº ofº ironº and brass,º in the tender grassº ofº the field;º and let it be wetºº with the dewº of heaven,º and [let] his portionº [be] withº the beastsº of the field,º tillºº sevenº timesº passº overº him;

 4:24 this is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which is come upon my lord the king:

 4:24 Thisº [is] the interpretation,º O king,º and thisº [is] the decreeº of the most High,º whichº is comeºº uponº my lordº the king:º

 4:25 that thou shalt be driven from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and thou shalt be made to eat grass as oxen, and shalt be wet with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee; till thou know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

 4:25 That they shall driveºº thee fromº men,º and thy dwellingº shall beºº withº the beastsº of the field,º and they shall make thee to eatºº grassº as oxen,º and they shall wetºº thee with the dewºº of heaven,º and sevenº timesº shall passº overº thee, tillºº thou knowºº thatº the most Highº rulethº in the kingdomº of men,º and givethºº it to whomsoeverºº he will.ºº

 4:26 And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

 4:26 And whereasº they commandedºº to leaveºº the stumpº ofº the treeº roots;º thy kingdomº shall be sureº unto thee, afterº thatºº thou shalt have knownºº thatº the heavensº do rule.º

 4:27 Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

 4:27 Wherefore,º O king,º let my counselº be acceptableºº untoº thee,º and breakº offºº thy sinsº by righteousness,º and thine iniquitiesº by shewing mercyºº to the poor;ºº ifº it may beºº a lengtheningº of thy tranquillity.º

 4:28 ¶ All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

 4:28 ¶ Allº thisº cameºº uponº the kingº Nebuchadnezzar.º

 4:29 At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon.

 4:29 At the endº of twelveºº monthsº he walkedºººº inº the palaceº of the kingdomº ofº Babylon.º

 4:30 The king spake and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling-place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

 4:30 The kingº spake,ºº and said,ºº Is notº thisºº greatº Babylon,º thatº Iº have builtºº for the houseº of the kingdomº by the mightº of my power,º and for the honourº of my majesty?º

 4:31 While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, [saying], O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken: The kingdom is departed from thee:

 4:31 Whileº the wordº [was] in the king'sº mouth,º there fellºº a voiceº fromº heaven,º [saying], O kingº Nebuchadnezzar,º to thee it is spoken;ºº The kingdomº is departedºº fromº thee.

 4:32 and thou shalt be driven from men; and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; thou shalt be made to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over thee; until thou know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

 4:32 And they shall driveºº thee fromº men,º and thy dwellingº [shall be] withº the beastsº of the field:º they shall make thee to eatºº grassº as oxen,º and sevenº timesº shall passº overº thee, untilºº thou knowºº thatº the most Highº rulethº in the kingdomº of men,º and givethºº it to whomsoeverºº he will.ºº

 4:33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair was grown like eagles' [feathers], and his nails like birds' [claws].

 4:33 The same hourº was the thingº fulfilledºº uponº Nebuchadnezzar:º and he was drivenºº fromº men,º and did eatºº grassº as oxen,º and his bodyº was wetºº with the dewºº of heaven,º tillºº his hairsº were grownºº like eagles'º [feathers], and his nailsº like birds'º [claws].

 4:34 And at the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him that liveth for ever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.

 4:34 And at the endº of the daysº Iº Nebuchadnezzarº lifted upºº mine eyesº unto heaven,º and mine understandingº returnedºº untoº me,º and I blessedºº the most High,º and I praisedºº and honouredºº him that livethº for ever,º whoseº dominionº [is] an everlastingº dominion,º and his kingdomº [is] fromº generationº to generation:º

 4:35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

 4:35 And allº the inhabitantsºº of the earthº [are] reputedºº as nothing:º and he doethºº according to his willºº in the armyº of heaven,º and [among] the inhabitantsºº of the earth:º and noneº canº stayºº his hand,º or sayºº unto him, Whatº doestºº thou?

 4:36 At the same time mine understanding returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added unto me.

 4:36 At the same timeº my reasonº returnedºº untoº me;º and for the gloryº of my kingdom,º mine honourº and brightnessº returnedºº untoº me;º and my counsellorsº and my lordsº soughtºº unto me;º and I was establishedºº inº my kingdom,º and excellentº majestyº was addedºº unto me.

 4:37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

 4:37 Nowº Iº Nebuchadnezzarº praiseºº and extolºº and honourºº the Kingº of heaven,º allº whoseº worksº [are] truth,º and his waysº judgment:º and thoseº that walkºº in prideº he is ableºº to abase.ºº
