 9:1 ¶ Now in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, on the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have rule over them, (whereas it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them,)

 9:1 ¶ Now in the twelfthºº month,º thatº [is], the monthº Adar,º on the thirteenthºº dayº of the same, whenº the king'sº commandmentº and his decreeº drew nearºº to be put in execution,ºº in the dayº thatº the enemiesºº of the Jewsº hopedºº to have powerºº over them, (though itº was turnedºº to the contrary,º thatº the Jewsº had ruleºº overº themº that hatedºº them;)

 9:2 the Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them was fallen upon all the peoples.

 9:2 The Jewsº gathered themselves togetherºº in their citiesº throughout allº the provincesº of the kingº Ahasuerus,º to layºº handº on such as soughtºº their hurt:º and noº manº could withstandºº them;º forº the fearº of them fellºº uponº allº people.º

 9:3 And all the princes of the provinces, and the satraps, and the governors, and they that did the king's business, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai was fallen upon them.

 9:3 And allº the rulersº of the provinces,º and the lieutenants,º and the deputies,º and officersººº ofº the king,º helpedººº the Jews;º becauseº the fearº of Mordecaiº fellºº uponº them.

 9:4 For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went forth throughout all the provinces; for the man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.

 9:4 Forº Mordecaiº [was] greatº in the king'sº house,º and his fameº went outºº throughout allº the provinces:º forº this manº Mordecaiº waxedºº greater and greater.º

 9:5 And the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and with slaughter and destruction, and did what they would unto them that hated them.

 9:5 Thus the Jewsº smoteºº allº their enemiesºº with the strokeº of the sword,º and slaughter,º and destruction,º and didºº what they wouldº unto those that hatedºº them.

 9:6 And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.

 9:6 And in Shushanº the palaceº the Jewsº slewºº and destroyedºº fiveº hundredº men.º

 9:7 And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,

 9:7 And Parshandatha,º and Dalphon,º and Aspatha,º

 9:8 and Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,

 9:9 and Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vaizatha,

 9:10 the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jew's enemy, slew they; but on the spoil they laid not their hand.

 9:10 The tenº sonsº of Hamanº the sonº of Hammedatha,º the enemyºº of the Jews,º slewºº they; but on the spoilº laidºº they notºº their hand.º

 9:11 On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.

 9:11 On thatº dayº the numberº of those that were slainºº in Shushanº the palaceº was broughtºº beforeº the king.º

 9:12 ¶ And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king's provinces! Now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.

 9:12 ¶ And the kingº saidºº unto Estherº the queen,º The Jewsº have slainºº and destroyedºº fiveº hundredº menº in Shushanº the palace,º and the tenº sonsº of Haman;º whatº have they doneºº in the restº of the king'sº provinces?º now whatº [is] thy petition?º and it shall be grantedºº thee: or whatº [is] thy requestº further?º and it shall be done.ºº

 9:13 Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews that are in Shushan to do to-morrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.

 9:13 Then saidºº Esther,º Ifº it pleaseººº the king,º let it be grantedºº to the Jewsº whichº [are] in Shushanº to doºº to morrowº alsoº according unto this day'sº decree,º and let Haman'sº tenº sonsº be hangedºº uponº the gallows.º

 9:14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and a decree was given out in Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.

 9:14 And the kingº commandedºº it soº to be done:ºº and the decreeº was givenºº at Shushan;º and they hangedºº Haman'sº tenº sons.º

 9:15 And the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men in Shushan; but on the spoil they laid not their hand.

 9:15 For the Jewsº thatº [were] in Shushanº gathered themselves togetherºº on the fourteenthºº dayº alsoº of the monthº Adar,º and slewºº threeº hundredº menº at Shushan;º but on the preyº they laidºº notºº their hand.º

 9:16 And the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of them that hated them seventy and five thousand; but on the spoil they laid not their hand.

 9:16 But the otherº Jewsº thatº [were] in the king'sº provincesº gathered themselves together,ºº and stoodºº forº their lives,º and had restºº from their enemies,ººº and slewºº of their foesºº seventyº and fiveº thousand,º but they laidºº notºº their handsº on the prey,º

 9:17 [This was done] on the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

 9:17 On the thirteenthºº dayº of the monthº Adar;º and on the fourteenthºº day of the same restedºº they, and madeºº it a dayº of feastingº and gladness.º

 9:18 But the Jews that were in Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth [day] thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth [day] of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

 9:18 But the Jewsº thatº [were] at Shushanº assembled togetherºº on the thirteenthºº [day] thereof, and on the fourteenthºº thereof; and on the fifteenthºº [day] of the same they rested,ºº and madeºº it a dayº of feastingº and gladness.º

 9:19 Therefore do the Jews of the villages, that dwell in the unwalled towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar [a day of] gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.

 9:19 Thereforeºº the Jewsº of the villages,º that dweltºº in the unwalledº towns,º madeººº the fourteenthºº dayº of the monthº Adarº [a day of] gladnessº and feasting,º and a goodº day,º and of sendingº portionsº oneº to another.º

 9:20 ¶ And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,

 9:20 ¶ And Mordecaiº wroteººº theseº things,º and sentºº lettersº untoº allº the Jewsº thatº [were] in allº the provincesº of the kingº Ahasuerus,º [both] nighº and far,º

 9:21 to enjoin them that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,

 9:21 To stablishºº [this] amongº them, that they shouldº keepººº the fourteenthºº dayº of the monthº Adar,º and the fifteenthºº dayº of the same, yearly,ºº

 9:22 as the days wherein the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.

 9:22 As the daysº whereinº the Jewsº restedºº from their enemies,ººº and the monthº whichº was turnedºº unto them from sorrowºº to joy,º and from mourningºº into a goodº day:º that they should makeºº them daysº of feastingº and joy,º and of sendingº portionsº oneº to another,º and giftsº to the poor.º

 9:23 And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;

 9:23 And the Jewsº undertookºº to doººº asº they had begun,ºº and asº Mordecaiº had writtenºº untoº them;

 9:24 because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;

 9:24 Becauseº Hamanº the sonº of Hammedatha,º the Agagite,º the enemyºº of allº the Jews,º had devisedºº againstº the Jewsº to destroyºº them, and had castºº Pur,º thatº [is], the lot,º to consumeºº them, and to destroyºº them;

 9:25 but when [the matter] came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he had devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

 9:25 But when [Esther] cameºº beforeº the king,º he commandedºº byº lettersº that his wickedº device,º whichº he devisedºº againstº the Jews,º should returnºº uponº his own head,º and that he and his sonsº should be hangedºº onº the gallows.º

 9:26 Wherefore they called these days Purim, after the name of Pur. Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come unto them,

 9:26 Whereforeºº they calledºº theseº daysº Purimº afterº the nameº of Pur.º Thereforeºº forº allº the wordsº of thisº letter,º and [of that] whichº they had seenºº concerningº this matter,º and whichº had comeºº untoº them,

 9:27 the Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so that it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to the writing thereof, and according to the appointed time thereof, every year;

 9:27 The Jewsº ordained,ºº and tookºº uponº them, and uponº their seed,º and uponº allº such as joinedºº themselvesº untoº them, so as it should notº fail,ºº that they would keepººº theseº twoº daysº according to their writing,º and according to their [appointed]º timeº everyº year;º

 9:28 and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the remembrance of them perish from their seed.

 9:28 And [that] theseº daysº [should be] rememberedºº and keptºº throughoutº everyº generation,º every family,º every province,º and every city;º and [that] theseº daysº of Purimº should notº failºº from amongºº the Jews,º norº the memorialº of them perishºº from their seed.ºº

 9:29 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority to confirm this second letter of Purim.

 9:29 Then Estherº the queen,º the daughterº of Abihail,º and Mordecaiº the Jew,º wroteºº withº allº authority,º to confirmººº thisº secondº letterº of Purim.º

 9:30 And he sent letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, [with] words of peace and truth,

 9:30 And he sentºº the lettersº untoº allº the Jews,º toº the hundredº twentyº and sevenº provincesº of the kingdomº of Ahasuerus,º [with] wordsº of peaceº and truth,º

 9:31 to confirm these days of Purim in their appointed times, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had ordained for themselves and for their seed, in the matter of the fastings and their cry.

 9:31 To confirmººº theseº daysº of Purimº in their timesº [appointed], according asº Mordecaiº the Jewº and Estherº the queenº had enjoinedººº them, and asº they had decreedºº forº themselvesº and forº their seed,º the mattersº of the fastingsº and their cry.º

 9:32 And the commandment of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.

 9:32 And the decreeº of Estherº confirmedºº theseº mattersº of Purim;º and it was writtenºº in the book.º
