 12:1 ¶ Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

 12:1 ¶ Whereforeº seeing weº alsoº areºº compassed aboutººº withº so greatº a cloudº of witnesses,º letºº usº lay asideºº everyº weight,º andº the sinº which doth so easily besetº [us], andº let us runºº withº patienceº theº raceº that is set beforeºº us,º

 12:2 looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of [our] faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

 12:2 Lookingºº untoº Jesusº theº authorº andº finisherº of [our] faith;º whoº forº theº joyº that was set beforeºº himºº enduredºº the cross,º despisingºº the shame,º andº is set downºº atº the right handº of theº throneº of God.º

 12:3 For consider him that hath endured such gainsaying of sinners against himself, that ye wax not weary, fainting in your souls.

 12:3 Forº considerºº him that enduredºº suchº contradictionº ofº sinnersº againstº himself,ºº lestº ye be weariedºº and faintºº in yourº minds.º

 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin:

 12:4 Ye haveºº not yetº resistedºº untoº blood,º strivingºº againstº sin.º

 12:5 and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him;

 12:5 Andº ye have forgottenºº theº exhortationº whichº speakethºº unto youº asº unto children,º Myº son,º despiseºº notº thouºº the chasteningº of the Lord,º norº faintºº when thou art rebukedºº ofº him:º

 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

 12:6 Forº whomº the Lordº lovethºº he chasteneth,ºº andº scourgethºº everyº sonº whomº he receiveth.ºº

 12:7 It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom [his] father chasteneth not?

 12:7 Ifº ye endureºº chastening,º Godº dealethºº with youº asº with sons;º forº whatº sonº isº heºº whomº the fatherº chastenethºº not?º

 12:8 But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

 12:8 Butº ifº ye beºº withoutº chastisement,º whereofº allº areºº partakers,º thenº areº yeºº bastards,º andº notº sons.º

 12:9 Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

 12:9 Furthermoreºº we have hadºº fathersº of ourº fleshº which correctedº [us], andº we gave [them] reverence:ºº shall weºº notº muchº ratherº be in subjectionºº unto theº Fatherº of spirits,º andº live?ºº

 12:10 For they indeed for a few days chastened [us] as seemed good to them; but he for [our] profit, that [we] may be partakers of his holiness.

 12:10 Forº theyº verilyº forº a fewº daysº chastenedºº [us] afterº their ownºº pleasure;ºº butº heº forº [our] profit,ºº thatº [we] might be partakersºº of hisº holiness.º

 12:11 All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, [even the fruit] of righteousness.

 12:11 Nowº noºº chasteningº forºº theº presentºº seemethºº to beºº joyous,º butº grievous:º neverthelessº afterwardº it yieldethºº the peaceableº fruitº of righteousnessº unto them which are exercisedºº thereby.ºº

 12:12 Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down, and the palsied knees;

 12:12 Whereforeº lift upºº the handsº whichº hang down,ºº andº theº feebleºº knees;º

 12:13 and make straight paths for your feet, that that which is lame be not turned out of the way, but rather be healed.

 12:13 Andº makeºº straightº pathsº for yourº feet,º lestº thatº which is lameº be turned out of the way;ºº butº let itºº ratherº be healed.ºº

 12:14 Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man shall see the Lord:

 12:14 Followºº peaceº withº allº [men], andº holiness,º withoutº whichº no manº shall seeºº theº Lord:º

 12:15 looking carefully lest [there be] any man that falleth short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble [you], and thereby the many be defiled;

 12:15 Looking diligentlyºº lestº any manº failºº ofº theº graceº of God;º lestº anyº rootº of bitternessº springingºº upº troubleºº [you], andº therebyºº manyº be defiled;ºº

 12:16 lest [there be] any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one mess of meat sold his own birthright.

 12:16 Lestº there [be] anyº fornicator,º orº profane person,º asº Esau,º whoº forº oneº morsel of meatº soldºº hisºº birthright.º

 12:17 For ye know that even when he afterward desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected; for he found no place for a change of mind [in his father], though he sought is diligently with tears.

 12:17 Forº ye knowºº howº thatº afterward,ºº when he wouldºº have inheritedºº theº blessing,º he was rejected:ºº forº he foundºº noº placeº of repentance,º thoughº he soughtºº itº carefullyººº withº tears.º

 12:18 For ye are not come unto [a mount] that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

 12:18 Forº ye areºº notº comeºº unto the mountº that might be touched,ºº andº that burnedºº with fire,º norº unto blackness,º andº darkness,º andº tempest,º

 12:19 and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which [voice] they that heard entreated that no word more should be spoken unto them;

 12:19 Andº the soundº of a trumpet,º andº the voiceº of words;º whichº [voice] they that heardºº intreatedºº that the wordº shouldºº notºº be spokenºº to themº any more:ººº

 12:20 for they could not endure that which was enjoined, If even a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned;

 12:20 (Forº they couldºº notº endureºº that which was commanded,ºº And if so much asº a beastº touchºº theº mountain,º it shall be stoned,ºº orº thrust throughºº with a dart:º

 12:21 and so fearful was the appearance, [that] Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:

 12:21 Andº soº terribleº wasºº theº sight,ºº [that] Mosesº said,ºº I exceedingly fearººº andº quake:)º

 12:22 but ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable hosts of angels,

 12:22 Butº ye are comeºº untoº mountº Sion,º andº unto the cityº of the livingºº God,º the heavenlyº Jerusalem,º andº to an innumerable companyº of angels,º

 12:23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

 12:23 To the general assemblyº andº churchº of the firstborn,º which are writtenºº inº heaven,º andº to Godº the Judgeº of all,º andº to the spiritsº of just menº made perfect,ºº

 12:24 and to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaketh better than [that of] Abel.

 12:24 Andº to Jesusº the mediatorº of the newº covenant,º andº to the bloodº of sprinkling,º that speakethºº better thingsº thanº [that of] Abel.º

 12:25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned [them] on earth, much more [shall not] we [escape] who turn away from him that [warneth] from heaven:

 12:25 Seeºº that ye refuseºº notº him that speaketh.ºº Forº ifº theyº escapedºº notº who refusedº himºº that spakeºº onº earth,º muchº moreº [shall not] weº [escape], if we turn away fromº himººº that [speaketh] fromº heaven:º

 12:26 whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven.

 12:26 Whoseº voiceº thenº shookºº theº earth:º butº nowº he hath promised,ºº saying,ºº Yetº once moreº Iº shakeºº notº theº earthº only,º butº alsoº heaven.º

 12:27 And this [word], Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.

 12:27 Andº thisº [word], Yetº once more,º signifiethºº theº removingº of those things that are shaken,ºº asº of things that are made,ºº thatº those things which cannotº be shakenººº may remain.ºº

 12:28 Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe:

 12:28 Whereforeº we receivingºº a kingdomº which cannot be moved,º let us haveºº grace,º wherebyºº we may serveºº Godº acceptablyº withº reverenceº andº godly fear:º

 12:29 for our God is a consuming fire.

 12:29 Forºº ourº Godº [is] a consumingºº fire.º
