 7:1 ¶
[My] son, keep my words, and hide with thee my commandments. [My] son, honour the Lord, and thou shalt be strong; and fear none but him: |
|
 7:1 ¶
My son,º
keepºº
my words,º
and lay upºº
my commandmentsº
withº
thee. |
 7:2
keep my commandments, and thou shalt live; and [keep] my words as the pupils of [thine] eyes. |
|
 7:2
Keepºº
my commandments,º
and live;ºº
and my lawº
as the appleº
of thine eye.º |
 7:3
And bind them on thy fingers, and write [them] on the table of thine heart. |
|
 7:3
Bindºº
them uponº
thy fingers,º
writeºº
them uponº
the tableº
of thine heart.º |
 7:4
Say that wisdom is thy sister, and gain prudence as an acquaintance for thyself; |
|
 7:4
Sayºº
unto wisdom,º
Thouº
[art] my sister;º
and callºº
understandingº
[thy] kinswoman:º |
 7:5
that she may keep thee from the strange and wicked woman, if she should assail thee with flattering words. |
|
 7:5
That they may keepºº
thee from the strangeºº
woman,ºº
from the strangerºº
[which] flatterethºº
with her words.º |
 7:6 ¶
For she looks from a window out of her house into the streets, at one whom she may see of the senseless ones, a young man void of understanding, |
|
 7:6 ¶
Forº
at the windowº
of my houseº
I lookedºº
throughº
my casement,º |
 7:7
passing by the corner in the passages near her house, |
|
 7:7
And beheldºº
among the simple ones,º
I discernedºº
among the youths,º
a young manº
voidº
of understanding,º |
 7:8
and speaking, in the dark of the evening, |
|
 7:8
Passingº
throughºº
the streetº
nearº
her corner;ºº
and he wentºº
the wayº
to her house,º |
 7:9
when there happens [to be] the stillness of night and of darkness: |
|
 7:9
In the twilight,º
in the evening,ºº
in the blackº
and darkº
night:º |
 7:10
and the woman meets him having the appearance of a harlot, that causes the hearts of young men to flutter. |
|
 7:10
And, behold,º
there metºº
him a womanº
[with] the attireº
of an harlot,ºº
and subtilºº
of heart.º |
 7:11
And she is fickle, and debauched, and her feet abide not at home. |
|
 7:11
(Sheº
[is] loudºº
and stubborn;ºº
her feetº
abideºº
notº
in her house:º |
 7:12
For at one time she wanders without, and at [another] time she lies in wait in the streets, at every corner. |
|
 7:12
Nowº
[is she] without,º
nowº
in the streets,º
and lieth in waitºº
atº
everyº
corner.)º |
 7:13
Then she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him, |
|
 7:13
So she caughtºº
him, and kissedºº
him, [and] with an impudentºº
faceº
saidºº
unto him, |
 7:14
I have a peace-offering; today I pay my vows: |
|
 7:14
[I have] peaceº
offeringsºº
withº
me; this dayº
have I payedºº
my vows.º |
 7:15
therefore I came forth to meet thee, desiring thy face; [and] I have found thee. |
|
 7:15
Thereforeºº
came I forthºº
to meetºº
thee, diligently to seekºº
thy face,º
and I have foundºº
thee. |
 7:16
I have spread my bed with sheets, and I have covered it with double tapestry from Mizraim{gr.Egypt}. |
|
 7:16
I have deckedºº
my bedº
with coveringsº
of tapestry,º
with carvedº
[works], with fine linenº
of Egypt.º |
 7:17
I have sprinkled my couch with saffron, and my house with cinnamon. |
|
 7:17
I have perfumedºº
my bedº
with myrrh,º
aloes,º
and cinnamon.º |
 7:18
Come, and let us enjoy love until the morning; come, and let us embrace in love. |
|
 7:18
Come,ººº
let us take our fillºº
of loveº
untilº
the morning:º
let us solaceºº
ourselvesº
with loves.º |
 7:19
For my husband is not at home, but is gone on a long journey, |
|
 7:19
Forº
the goodmanº
[is] notº
at home,º
he is goneºº
a longºº
journey:º |
 7:20
having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house. |
|
 7:20
He hath takenºº
a bagº
of moneyº
withº
him,º
[and] will comeºº
homeº
at the dayº
appointed.º |
 7:21
So with much converse she prevailed on him to go astray, and with the snares of her lips forced him from [the right path]. |
|
 7:21
With her muchº
fair speechº
she caused him to yield,ºº
with the flatteringº
of her lipsº
she forcedºº
him. |
 7:22
And he followed her, being gently led on, and [that] as an ox is led to the slaughter, and as a dog to bonds, or as a hart shot in the liver with an arrow: |
|
 7:22
He goethºº
afterº
her straightway,º
as an oxº
goethºº
toº
the slaughter,º
or as a foolº
toº
the correctionº
of the stocks;º |
 7:23
and he hastens as a bird into a snare, not knowing that he is running for [his] life. |
|
 7:23
Tillº
a dartº
strikeºº
throughº
his liver;º
as a birdº
hastethºº
toº
the snare,º
and knowethºº
notº
thatº
itº
[is] for his life.º |
 7:24 ¶
Now then, [my] son, hearken to me, and attend to the words of my mouth. |
|
 7:24 ¶
Hearkenºº
unto me nowº
therefore, O ye children,º
and attendºº
to the wordsº
of my mouth.º |
 7:25
Let not thine heart turn aside to her ways: |
|
 7:25
Let notº
thine heartº
declineºº
toº
her ways,º
go not astrayººº
in her paths.º |
 7:26
for she has wounded and cast down many, and those whom she has slain are innumerable. |
|
 7:26
Forº
she hath cast downºº
manyº
wounded:º
yea, manyº
strongº
[men] have been slainºº
by her. |
 7:27
Her house is the way of hell, leading down to the chambers of death. |
|
 7:27
Her houseº
[is] the wayº
to hell,º
going downºº
toº
the chambersº
of death.º |
