 5:1 ¶ Keepºº thy footº whenº thou goestººº toº the houseº of ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º and be more readyºº to hear,ºº than to giveººº the sacrificeº of fools:º for they considerºº notº thatº they doºº evil.º

 5:1 ¶ Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of Elohim, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.

 5:2 Be notº rashºº withº thy mouth,º and let notº thine heartº be hastyºº to utterºº [any] thingº beforeº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים:º forº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº [is] in heaven,º and thouº uponº earth:º thereforeºº let thy wordsº beº few.º

 5:2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter [any] thing before Elohim: for Elohim [is] in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

 5:3 Forº a dreamº comethºº through the multitudeº of business;º and a fool'sº voiceº [is known] by multitudeº of words.º

 5:3 For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice [is known] by multitude of words.

 5:4 Whenº thou vowestºº a vowº unto ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º deferºº notº to payºº it; forº [he hath] noº pleasureº in fools:º payººº that whichº thou hast vowed.ºº

 5:4 When thou vowest a vow unto Elohim, defer not to pay it; for [he hath] no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

 5:5 Betterº [is it] thatº thou shouldest notº vow,ºº than that thou shouldest vowºººº and notº pay.ºº

 5:5 Better [is it] that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

 5:6 Sufferºº notºº thy mouthº to causeº thy fleshº to sin;ºº neitherº sayºº thou beforeº the angel,º thatº itº [was] an error:º whereforeº should ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº be angryºº atº thy voice,º and destroyººº the workº of thine hands?º

 5:6 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it [was] an error: wherefore should Elohim be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?

 5:7 Forº in the multitudeº of dreamsº and manyºº wordsº [there are] also [divers] vanities:º butº fearºº thouº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 5:7 For in the multitude of dreams and many words [there are] also [divers] vanities: but fear thou Elohim.

 5:8 ¶ Ifº thou seestºº the oppressionº of the poor,ºº and violentº pervertingº of judgmentº and justiceº in a province,º marvelºº notº atº the matter:º forº [he that is] higherº thanºº the highestº regardeth;ºº and [there be] higherº thanº they.º

 5:8 ¶ If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for [he that is] higher than the highest regardeth; and [there be] higher than they.

 5:9 ¶ Moreover the profitº of the earthº is for all:º the kingº [himself] is servedºº by the field.º

 5:10 He that lovethºº silverº shall notº be satisfiedºº with silver;º nor heº that lovethºº abundanceº with increase:º thisº [is] alsoº vanity.º

 5:10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this [is] also vanity.

 5:11 When goodsº increase,ºº they are increasedºº that eatºº them: and whatº goodº [is there] to the ownersº thereof, savingºº the beholdingººººº [of them] with their eyes?º

 5:11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good [is there] to the owners thereof, saving the beholding [of them] with their eyes?

 5:12 The sleepº of a labouring manºº [is] sweet,º whetherº he eatºº littleº orº much:ºº but the abundanceº of the richº will notº sufferººº him to sleep.ºº

 5:12 The sleep of a labouring man [is] sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

 5:13 There isº a soreºº evilº [which] I have seenºº underº the sun,º [namely], richesº keptºº for the ownersº thereof to their hurt.º

 5:13 There is a sore evil [which] I have seen under the sun, [namely], riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt.

 5:14 But thoseº richesº perishºº by evilº travail:º and he begettethºº a son,º and [there is] nothingºº in his hand.º

 5:14 But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and [there is] nothing in his hand.

 5:15 Asº he came forthºº of his mother'sº womb,ºº nakedº shall he returnºº to goººº as he came,ººº and shall takeºº nothingºº of his labour,º which he may carry awayºººº in his hand.º

 5:15 As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.

 5:16 And thisº alsoº [is] a soreºº evil,º [that] in allº pointsº as he came,ººº soº shall he go:ººº and whatº profitº hath he that hath labouredººº for the wind?º

 5:16 And this also [is] a sore evil, [that] in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind?

 5:17 Allº his daysº alsoº he eatethºº in darkness,º and [he hath] muchºº sorrowºº and wrathº with his sickness.º

 5:17 All his days also he eateth in darkness, and [he hath] much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.

 5:18 ¶ Beholdº [that] whichº Iº have seen:ºº [it is] goodº and comelyº [for one] to eatºº and to drink,ºº and to enjoyºº the goodº of allº his labourº that he takethººº underº the sunº allº the daysº of his life,º whichº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº givethºº him: forº itº [is] his portion.º

 5:18 ¶ Behold [that] which I have seen: [it is] good and comely [for one] to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which Elohim giveth him: for it [is] his portion.

 5:19 Everyº manº alsoº to whomº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº hath givenºº richesº and wealth,º and hath given him powerºº to eatºº thereof,º and to takeººº his portion,º and to rejoiceºº in his labour;º thisº [is] the giftº of ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 5:19 Every man also to whom Elohim hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this [is] the gift of Elohim.

 5:20 Forº he shall notº muchºº rememberººº the daysº of his life;º becauseº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº answerethººº [him] in the joyº of his heart.º

 5:20 For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because Elohim answereth [him] in the joy of his heart.
