 2:1 ¶
Howº
hath
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
coveredººº
the daughterº
of
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹןº
with a cloudºº
in his anger,º
[and] cast downºº
from heavenºº
unto the earthº
the beautyº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
and rememberedºº
notº
his footstoolºº
in the dayº
of his anger!º |
|
 2:1 ¶
How hath Yahweh covered the daughter of Tziyyon with a cloud in his anger, [and] cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Yisrael, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger! |
 2:2
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath swallowed upººº
allº
the habitationsº
of
Ya`áköv
יַעֲקֹב,º
and hath notº
pitied:ºº
he hath thrown downºº
in his wrathº
the strong holdsº
of the daughterº
of
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה;º
he hath brought [them] downºº
to the ground:º
he hath pollutedºº
the kingdomº
and the princesº
thereof. |
|
 2:2
Yahweh hath swallowed up all the habitations of Yaaqov, and hath not pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Yehudah; he hath brought [them] down to the ground: he hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof. |
 2:3
He hath cut offºº
in [his] fierceº
angerº
allº
the hornº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל:º
he hath drawnºº
backº
his right handº
from beforeºº
the enemy,ºº
and he burnedºº
against
Ya`áköv
יַעֲקֹבº
like a flamingº
fire,º
[which] devourethºº
round about.º |
|
 2:3
He hath cut off in [his] fierce anger all the horn of Yisrael: he hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Yaaqov like a flaming fire, [which] devoureth round about. |
 2:4
He hath bentºº
his bowº
like an enemy:ºº
he stoodºº
with his right handº
as an adversary,º
and slewºº
allº
[that were] pleasantº
to the eyeº
in the tabernacleº
of the daughterº
of
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹן:º
he poured outºº
his furyº
like fire.º |
|
 2:4
He hath bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his right hand as an adversary, and slew all [that were] pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Tziyyon: he poured out his fury like fire. |
 2:5
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
wasº
as an enemy:ºº
he hath swallowed upºº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
he hath swallowed upºº
allº
her palaces:º
he hath destroyedºº
his strong holds,º
and hath increasedºº
in the daughterº
of
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָהº
mourningº
and lamentation.º |
|
 2:5
Yahweh was as an enemy: he hath swallowed up Yisrael, he hath swallowed up all her palaces: he hath destroyed his strong holds, and hath increased in the daughter of Yehudah mourning and lamentation. |
 2:6
And he hath violently taken awayºº
his tabernacle,º
as [if it were of] a garden:º
he hath destroyedºº
his places of the assembly:º
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath caused the solemn feastsº
and sabbathsº
to be forgottenºº
in
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹן,º
and hath despisedºº
in the indignationº
of his angerº
the kingº
and the priest.º |
|
 2:6
And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, as [if it were of] a garden: he hath destroyed his places of the assembly: Yahweh hath caused the solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Tziyyon, and hath despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest. |
 2:7
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath cast offºº
his altar,º
he hath abhorredºº
his sanctuary,º
he hath given upºº
into the handº
of the enemyºº
the wallsº
of her palaces;º
they have madeºº
a noiseº
in the houseº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
as in the dayº
of a solemn feast.º |
|
 2:7
Yahweh hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary, he hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have made a noise in the house of Yahweh, as in the day of a solemn feast. |
 2:8
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath purposedºº
to destroyºº
the wallº
of the daughterº
of
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹן:º
he hath stretched outºº
a line,º
he hath notº
withdrawnºº
his handº
from destroying:ººº
therefore he made the rampartº
and the wallº
to lament;ºº
they languishedºº
together.º |
|
 2:8
Yahweh hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Tziyyon: he hath stretched out a line, he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying: therefore he made the rampart and the wall to lament; they languished together. |
 2:9
Her gatesº
are sunkºº
into the ground;º
he hath destroyedºº
and brokenºº
her bars:º
her kingº
and her princesº
[are] among the Gentiles:º
the lawº
[is] noº
[more]; her prophetsº
alsoº
findºº
noº
visionº
from
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.ºº |
|
 2:9
Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes [are] among the Gentiles: the law [is] no [more]; her prophets also find no vision from Yahweh. |
 2:10
The eldersº
of the daughterº
of
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹןº
sitºº
upon the ground,º
[and] keep silence:ºº
they have cast upºº
dustº
uponº
their heads;º
they have girdedºº
themselves with sackcloth:º
the virginsº
of
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַםº
hang downºº
their headsº
to the ground.º |
|
 2:10
The elders of the daughter of Tziyyon sit upon the ground, [and] keep silence: they have cast up dust upon their heads; they have girded themselves with sackcloth: the virgins of Yerushalaim hang down their heads to the ground. |
 2:11
Mine eyesº
do failºº
with tears,º
my bowelsº
are troubled,ºº
my liverº
is pouredºº
upon the earth,º
forº
the destructionº
of the daughterº
of my people;º
because the childrenº
and the sucklingsºº
swoonºº
in the streetsº
of the city.º |
|
 2:11
Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city. |
 2:12
They sayºº
to their mothers,º
Whereº
[is] cornº
and wine?º
when they swoonedºº
as the woundedº
in the streetsº
of the city,º
when their soulº
was poured outºº
intoº
their mothers'º
bosom.º |
|
 2:12
They say to their mothers, Where [is] corn and wine? when they swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city, when their soul was poured out into their mothers' bosom. |
 2:13
What thingº
shall I take to witnessºººº
for thee? what thingº
shall I likenºº
to thee, O daughterº
of
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם?º
whatº
shall I equalºº
to thee, that I may comfortºº
thee, O virginº
daughterº
of
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹן?º
forº
thy breachº
[is] greatº
like the sea:º
whoº
can healºº
thee? |
|
 2:13
What thing shall I take to witness for thee? what thing shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Yerushalaim? what shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Tziyyon? for thy breach [is] great like the sea: who can heal thee? |
 2:14
Thy prophetsº
have seenºº
vainº
and foolish thingsº
for thee: and they have notº
discoveredººº
thine iniquity,º
to turn awayºº
thy captivity;ºº
but have seenºº
for thee falseº
burdensº
and causes of banishment.º |
|
 2:14
Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of banishment. |
 2:15
Allº
that passºº
byºº
clapºº
[their] handsº
atº
thee;º
they hissºº
and wagºº
their headº
atº
the daughterº
of
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם,º
[saying, Is] thisº
the cityº
that [men] callººº
The perfectionº
of beauty,º
The joyº
of the wholeº
earth?º |
|
 2:15
All that pass by clap [their] hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Yerushalaim, [saying, Is] this the city that [men] call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth? |
 2:16
Allº
thine enemiesºº
have openedºº
their mouthº
againstº
thee: they hissºº
and gnashºº
the teeth:º
they say,ºº
We have swallowed [her] up:ºº
certainlyº
thisº
[is] the dayº
that we looked for;ººº
we have found,ºº
we have seenºº
[it]. |
|
 2:16
All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed [her] up: certainly this [is] the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen [it]. |
 2:17
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath doneºº
[that] whichº
he had devised;ºº
he hath fulfilledºº
his wordº
thatº
he had commandedºº
in the daysºº
of old:º
he hath thrown down,ºº
and hath notº
pitied:ºº
and he hath caused [thine] enemyºº
to rejoiceºº
overº
thee, he hath set upºº
the hornº
of thine adversaries.º |
|
 2:17
Yahweh hath done [that] which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and he hath caused [thine] enemy to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine adversaries. |
 2:18
Their heartº
criedºº
untoº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
O wallº
of the daughterº
of
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹן,º
let tearsº
run downºº
like a riverº
dayº
and night:º
giveºº
thyself noº
rest;º
let notº
the appleº
of thine eyeº
cease.ºº |
|
 2:18
Their heart cried unto Yahweh, O wall of the daughter of Tziyyon, let tears run down like a river day and night: give thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease. |
 2:19
Arise,ºº
cry outºº
in the night:º
in the beginningº
of the watchesº
pour outºº
thine heartº
like waterº
beforeº
the faceº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:º
lift upºº
thy handsº
towardº
him forº
the lifeº
of thy young children,º
that faintºº
for hungerº
in the topº
of everyº
street.º |
|
 2:19
Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of Yahweh: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street. |
 2:20 ¶
Behold,ºº
O
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
and considerºº
to whomº
thou hast doneºº
this.º
Shall the womenº
eatºº
their fruit,º
[and] childrenº
of a span long?º
shall the priestº
and the prophetº
be slainºº
in the sanctuaryº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה?º |
|
 2:20 ¶
Behold, O Yahweh, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit, [and] children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of Yahweh? |
 2:21
The youngº
and the oldº
lieºº
on the groundº
in the streets:º
my virginsº
and my young menº
are fallenºº
by the sword;º
thou hast slainºº
[them] in the dayº
of thine anger;º
thou hast killed,ºº
[and] notº
pitied.ºº |
|
 2:21
The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain [them] in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed, [and] not pitied. |
 2:22
Thou hast calledºº
as in a solemnº
dayº
my terrorsº
round about,ºº
so that in the dayº
of
Yähwè's
יָהוֶהº
angerº
noneº
escapedºº
nor remained:º
those thatº
I have swaddledºº
and brought upºº
hath mine enemyºº
consumed.ºº |
|
 2:22
Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of Yahweh's anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed. |
