 4:1 ¶ Then wentºº Bö`az בֹּעַזº upººº to the gate,º and sat him downºº there:º and, behold,º the kinsmanºº of whom Bö`az בֹּעַזº spakeºº cameºº by;º unto whomº he said,ºº Ho,º suchº a one!º turn aside,ºº sit downºº here.º And he turned aside,ºº and sat down.ºº

 4:1 ¶ Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.

 4:2 And he tookºº tenº menºº of the eldersºº of the city,º and said,ºº Sit ye downºº here.º And they sat down.ºº

 4:2 And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.

 4:3 And he saidºº unto the kinsman,ºº No`ómî נָעֳמִי,º that is come againºº out of the countryºº of Mô´äv מוֹאָב,º sellethºº a parcelº of land,º whichº [was] our brotherº ´Élîmele¢'s אֱלִימֶלֶך:º

 4:3 And he said unto the kinsman, Noomi, that is come again out of the country of Moav, selleth a parcel of land, which [was] our brother Elimelekh's:

 4:4 And Iº thoughtºº to advertiseººº thee, saying,ºº Buyºº [it] beforeº the inhabitants,ºº and beforeº the eldersº of my people.º Ifº thou wilt redeemºº [it], redeemºº [it]: but ifº thou wilt notº redeemºº [it, then] tellºº me, that I may know:ºº forº [there is] noneº to redeemºº [it] besideº thee; and Iº [am] afterº thee. And he said,ºº Iº will redeemºº [it].

 4:4 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy [it] before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem [it], redeem [it]: but if thou wilt not redeem [it, then] tell me, that I may know: for [there is] none to redeem [it] beside thee; and I [am] after thee. And he said, I will redeem [it].

 4:5 Then saidºº Bö`az בֹּעַז,º What dayº thou buyestºº the fieldº of the handºº of No`ómî נָעֳמִי,º thou must buyºº [it] also ofºº Rû± רוּתº the Mô´áviyyà מוֹאֲבִיָּה,º the wifeº of the dead,ºº to raise upºº the nameº of the deadºº uponº his inheritance.º

 4:5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Noomi, thou must buy [it] also of Ruth the Moaviyyah, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

 4:6 ¶ And the kinsmanºº said,ºº I cannotººº redeemºº [it] for myself, lestº I marººº mine own inheritance:º redeemºº thouºº my rightº to thyself; forº I cannotººº redeemºº [it].

 4:6 ¶ And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem [it] for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem [it].

 4:7 Now thisº [was the manner] in former timeº in Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº concerningº redeemingº and concerningº changing,º for to confirmºº allº things;º a manº plucked offºº his shoe,º and gaveºº [it] to his neighbour:º and thisº [was] a testimonyº in Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 4:7 Now this [was the manner] in former time in Yisrael concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave [it] to his neighbour: and this [was] a testimony in Yisrael.

 4:8 Therefore the kinsmanºº saidºº unto Bö`az בֹּעַז,º Buyºº [it] for thee. So he drew offºº his shoe.º

 4:8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy [it] for thee. So he drew off his shoe.

 4:9 ¶ And Bö`az בֹּעַזº saidºº unto the elders,º and [unto] allº the people,º Yeº [are] witnessesº this day,º thatº I have boughtººº allº thatº [was] ´Élîmele¢'s אֱלִימֶלֶך,º and allº thatº [was] Cilyôn's כִּליוֹןº and Maçlôn's מַחלוֹן,º of the handºº of No`ómî נָעֳמִי.º

 4:9 ¶ And Boaz said unto the elders, and [unto] all the people, Ye [are] witnesses this day, that I have bought all that [was] Elimelekh's, and all that [was] Kilyon's and Machlon's, of the hand of Noomi.

 4:10 Moreoverºº Rû± רוּתº the Mô´áviyyà מוֹאֲבִיָּה,º the wifeº of Maçlôn מַחלוֹן,º have I purchasedºº to be my wife,º to raise upºº the nameº of the deadºº uponº his inheritance,º that the nameº of the deadºº be notº cut offºº from amongºº his brethren,º and from the gateºº of his place:º yeº [are] witnessesº this day.º

 4:10 Moreover Ruth the Moaviyyah, the wife of Machlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye [are] witnesses this day.

 4:11 And allº the peopleº thatº [were] in the gate,º and the elders,º said,ºº [We are] witnesses.º Yähwè יָהוֶהº makeººº the womanº that is comeºº intoº thine houseº like Räçël רָחֵלº and like Lë´à לֵאָה,º whichº twoº did buildººº the houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º and doºº thou worthilyº in ´Efrä±à אֶפרָתָה,º and be famousººº in Bê± Läçem בֵּית־לָחֶם:º

 4:11 And all the people that [were] in the gate, and the elders, said, [We are] witnesses. Yahweh make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Yisrael: and do thou worthily in Efrathah, and be famous in Beth-Lachem:

 4:12 And let thy houseº beº like the houseº of Perex פֶּרֶץ,º whomº Tämär תָּמָרº bareºº unto Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º ofº the seedº whichº Yähwè יָהוֶהº shall giveºº thee ofº thisº young woman.º

 4:12 And let thy house be like the house of Peretz, whom Tamar bare unto Yehudah, of the seed which Yahweh shall give thee of this young woman.

 4:13 ¶ So Bö`az בֹּעַזº tookººº Rû± רוּת,º and she wasº his wife:º and when he wentº inºº untoº her, Yähwè יָהוֶהº gaveºº her conception,º and she bareºº a son.º

 4:13 ¶ So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, Yahweh gave her conception, and she bare a son.

 4:14 And the womenº saidºº untoº No`ómî נָעֳמִי,º Blessedºº [be] Yähwè יָהוֶה,º whichº hath notº leftºº thee this dayº without a kinsman,ºº that his nameº may be famousºº in Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 4:14 And the women said unto Noomi, Blessed [be] Yahweh, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Yisrael.

 4:15 And he shall beº unto thee a restorerºº of [thy] life,º and a nourisherºº ofº thine old age:º forº thy daughter in law,º whichº lovethºº thee, whichº is betterº to thee than sevenºº sons,º hath bornºº him.

 4:15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of [thy] life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.

 4:16 And No`ómî נָעֳמִיº tookººº the child,º and laidºº it in her bosom,º and becameº nurseºº unto it.

 4:16 And Noomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.

 4:17 And the women her neighboursº gaveºº it a name,º saying,ºº There is a sonº bornºº to No`ómî נָעֳמִי;º and they calledºº his nameº `Ôvëð עוֹבֵד:º heº [is] the fatherº of Yišay יִשַׁי,º the fatherº of Däwið דָּוִד.º

 4:17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Noomi; and they called his name Oved: he [is] the father of Yishay, the father of Dawid.

 4:18 ¶ Now theseº [are] the generationsº of Perex פֶּרֶץ:º Perex פֶּרֶץº begatººº Çexrôn חֶצרוֹן,º

 4:18 ¶ Now these [are] the generations of Peretz: Peretz begat Chetzron,

 4:19 And Çexrôn חֶצרוֹןº begatººº Räm רָם,º and Räm רָםºº begatºº `Ammînäðäv עַמִּינָדָב,º

 4:19 And Chetzron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadav,

 4:20 And `Ammînäðäv עַמִּינָדָבº begatººº Naçšôn נַחשׁוֹן,º and Naçšôn נַחשׁוֹןº begatººº §almà שַׂלמָה,º

 4:20 And Amminadav begat Nachshon, and Nachshon begat Salmah,

 4:21 And §almôn שַׂלמוֹןº begatººº Bö`az בֹּעַז,º and Bö`az בֹּעַזº begatººº `Ôvëð עוֹבֵד,º

 4:21 And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Oved,

 4:22 And `Ôvëð עוֹבֵדº begatººº Yišay יִשַׁי,º and Yišay יִשַׁיº begatººº Däwið דָּוִד.º

 4:22 And Oved begat Yishay, and Yishay begat Dawid.
