 17:1 ¶ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the sojourners of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel, liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

 17:1 ¶ And Elijahº the Tishbite,º [who was] of the inhabitantsºº of Gilead,º saidºº untoº Ahab,º [As] the LORDº Godº of Israelº liveth,º beforeº whomº I stand,ºº there shall notº beº dewº nor rainº theseº years,º butºº accordingº to my word.º

 17:2 And the word of Jehovah came unto him, saying,

 17:2 And the wordº of the LORDº cameº untoº him, saying,ºº

 17:3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

 17:3 Getººº thee hence,ºº and turnºº thee eastward,º and hideºº thyselfº by the brookº Cherith,º thatº [is] beforeºº Jordan.º

 17:4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

 17:4 And it shall be,º [that] thou shalt drinkºº of the brook;ºº and I have commandedºº the ravensº to feedºº thee there.º

 17:5 So he went and did according unto the word of Jehovah; for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

 17:5 So he wentººº and didºº according unto the wordº of the LORD:º for he wentººº and dweltºº by the brookº Cherith,º thatº [is] beforeºº Jordan.º

 17:6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

 17:6 And the ravensº broughtºº him breadº and fleshº in the morning,º and breadº and fleshº in the evening;º and he drankºº ofº the brook.º

 17:7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

 17:7 And it came to passº afterºº a while,º that the brookº dried up,ºº becauseº there had beenº noº rainº in the land.º

 17:8 ¶ And the word of Jehovah came unto him, saying,

 17:8 ¶ And the wordº of the LORDº cameº untoº him, saying,ºº

 17:9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Sidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain thee.

 17:9 Arise,ºº getººº thee to Zarephath,º whichº [belongeth] to Zidon,º and dwellºº there:º behold,º I have commandedºº a widowº womanº thereº to sustainºº thee.

 17:10 So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

 17:10 So he aroseºº and wentººº to Zarephath.º And when he cameºº toº the gateº of the city,º behold,º the widowº womanº [was] thereº gatheringºº of sticks:º and he calledºº toº her, and said,ºº Fetchºº me, I pray thee,º a littleº waterº in a vessel,º that I may drink.ºº

 17:11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thy hand.

 17:11 And as she was goingººº to fetchºº [it], he calledºº toº her, and said,ºº Bringºº me, I pray thee,º a morselº of breadº in thine hand.º

 17:12 And she said, As Jehovah thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

 17:12 And she said,ºº [As] the LORDº thy Godº liveth,º I haveº notº a cake,º butºº an handfulºº of mealº in a barrel,º and a littleº oilº in a cruse:º and, behold,º I [am] gatheringºº twoº sticks,º that I may go inºº and dressºº it for me and my son,º that we may eatºº it, and die.ºº

 17:13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said; but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it forth unto me, and afterward make for thee and for thy son.

 17:13 And Elijahº saidºº untoº her, Fearºº not;º goºº [and] doºº as thou hast said:º butº makeºº me thereofºº a littleº cakeº first,º and bringºº [it] unto me, and afterº makeºº for thee and for thy son.º

 17:14 For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, The jar of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that Jehovah sendeth rain upon the earth.

 17:14 Forº thusº saithºº the LORDº Godº of Israel,º The barrelº of mealº shall notº waste,ºº neitherº shall the cruseº of oilº fail,ºº untilº the dayº [that] the LORDº sendethºº rainº uponºº the earth.º

 17:15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat [many] days.

 17:15 And she wentººº and didºº according to the sayingº of Elijah:º and she,º and he,º and her house,º did eatºº [many] days.º

 17:16 The jar of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spake by Elijah.

 17:16 [And] the barrelº of mealº wastedºº not,º neitherº did the cruseº of oilº fail,ºº according to the wordº of the LORD,º whichº he spakeºº byº Elijah.º

 17:17 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

 17:17 ¶ And it came to passº afterº theseº things,º [that] the sonº of the woman,º the mistressº of the house,º fell sick;ºº and his sicknessº wasº soº sore,º thatºº there was noº breathº leftºº in him.

 17:18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? thou art come unto me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son!

 17:18 And she saidºº untoº Elijah,º Whatº have I to do with thee, O thou manº of God?º art thou comeºº untoº me to callººº my sinº to remembrance,ºº and to slayººº my son?º

 17:19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the chamber, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

 17:19 And he saidºº untoº her, Giveºº meº thy son.º And he tookºº him out of her bosom,ºº and carried him upºº intoº a loft,º whereºº heº abode,ºº and laidºº him uponº his own bed.º

 17:20 And he cried unto Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

 17:20 And he criedºº untoº the LORD,º and said,ºº O LORDº my God,º hast thou alsoº brought evilºº uponº the widowº withº whomº Iº sojourn,ºº by slayingººº her son?º

 17:21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

 17:21 And he stretchedºº himselfº uponº the childº threeº times,º and criedºº untoº the LORD,º and said,ºº O LORDº my God,º I pray thee,º let thisº child'sº soulº comeºº into himº again.ºººº

 17:22 And Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

 17:22 And the LORDº heardºº the voiceº of Elijah;º and the soulº of the childº cameºº into himº again,ºººº and he revived.ºº

 17:23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother; and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

 17:23 And Elijahº tookººº the child,º and brought him downºº out ofº the chamberº into the house,º and deliveredºº him unto his mother:º and Elijahº said,ºº See,ºº thy sonº liveth.º

 17:24 ¶ And the woman said to Elijah, Now I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of Jehovah in thy mouth is truth.

 17:24 ¶ And the womanº saidºº toº Elijah,º Nowº by thisº I knowºº thatº thouº [art] a manº of God,º [and] that the wordº of the LORDº in thy mouthº [is] truth.º
