 4:1 And he began again to teach by the sea-side: and great assemblies were gathered to him; so that, ascending, he sat in a bark on the sea, and the whole multitude stood on the land, by the edge of the water.

 4:1 And again he began to teach by the side of the sea. And great multitudes were assembled about him; so that he embarked and sat in a ship on the sea, and all the multitude stood on the land by the side of the sea.

 4:2 And he instructed them by many parables, and said in his teaching, Listen:

 4:2 And he taught them much by similitudes. And in his teaching, he said:

 4:3 Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

 4:3 Hear ye: Behold a sower went forth to sow.

 4:4 and as he sowed, some fell by the way-side, and the fowl came and devoured it.

 4:4 And as he sowed, some [seed] fell on the side of the path; and a bird came, and devoured it.

 4:5 And other fell upon the rock, so that it had not much earth; and it soon came up, because it had not depth of earth:

 4:6 but when the sun arose, it became hot; and inasmuch as it had no root, it dried up.

 4:7 And other fell in a place of thorns; and the thorns sprang up, and choked it, and it gave no fruits.

 4:8 But other fell upon good ground; and it came up, and grew, and gave fruits, some thirty, some sixty, and some a hundred.

 4:12 that while seeing they may see, and not see; and while hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest they should be converted, and their sins be forgiven them.

 4:13 And he said to them, Do you not know this parable? how will you know all parables?

 4:15 These which were by the way-side, these are they in whom the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately cometh Satana, and taketh up the word which was sowed in their heart.

 4:15 And those by the side of the path, are they in whom the word is sown; and as soon as they have heard [it], Satan cometh, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

 4:16 And these who upon the rock are sowed, these are they who, when they have heard the word, at once with joy receive it:

 4:16 And those sown on the rock, are they who, when they hear the word, immediately with joy receive it.

 4:17 but they have no root in themselves, but are (only) for a time; and when there is affliction or persecution on account of the word, they are soon offended.

 4:18 And these who in the place of thorns are sown, these are they who hear the word;

 4:20 And these who in good ground are sowed, these are they who hear the word, and receive, and give fruits, thirty, and sixty, and a hundred.

 4:20 And those sown on good ground are they that hear the word, and receive it, and bear fruits, by thirties, and by sixties, and by hundreds.

 4:21 And he said to them, A lamp never cometh to be put under a measure, or under a bed: is it not set upon a candlestick?

 4:21 And he said to them: Is a lamp brought to be placed under a bushel, or under a bed? Is it not to be placed on a light-stand?

 4:22 For nothing is hid which shall not be revealed; nor is there any thing in secret which is not to be manifested.

 4:22 For there is nothing hid, which will not be exposed; and nothing concealed, which will not be made manifest.

 4:23 If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear.

 4:23 If any one have ears to hear, let him hear.

 4:24 ¶ AND he said to them, Consider what you hear. With that measure which you mete, you shall have measured to you; and there shall be, added to you those which you hear.

 4:24 And he said to them: Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye measure, it shall be measured to you: and there shall more be given to you who hear.

 4:25 For whosoever hath, unto him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, that also which he hath shall be taken from him.

 4:25 For to him that hath, will more be given; and from him that hath not, even what he hath, will be taken from him.

 4:26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as a man who shall cast seed into the earth;

 4:26 And he said: So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground,

 4:27 and shall sleep, and rise up by night and day, and the seed shall increase, and become long, while he knoweth not,

 4:27 and should sleep and rise, by night and by day, and the seed should grow an shoot up, he knoweth not how.

 4:28 For the earth yieldeth him fruit; and first is there the plant, and after it the ear, but lastly the completed corn in the ear.

 4:28 For the earth bringeth forth the fruit; first the plant, and subsequently the ear, and at last the complete wheat in the ear.

 4:29 But when the fruit is mature, immediately cometh the sickle, because the harvest is come.

 4:29 And when the fruit is ripe, immediately cometh the sickle, because the harvest hath arrived.

 4:30 And he said, To what may we compare the kingdom of Aloha? and with what comparison shall we compare it?

 4:30 And he said: To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? and with what similitude shall we compare it?

 4:31 It is like a grain of mustard, which, when sown in the earth, is smaller than all seeds which are in the earth:

 4:31 It is like a grain of mustard seed which, when it is sown in the earth, is the least of all seeds sown on the earth;

 4:32 and when it is sown, it springeth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and maketh great branches; so that in its shadow the fowl can dwell.

 4:33 In parables such as these spake Jeshu with them, in parables such as they could hear.

 4:34 And without parable did he not speak with them: but to his disciples, between him and them, he explained all.

 4:35 ¶ AND he said to them that day, in the evening, Let us pass to the opposite shore.

 4:35 And he said to them, the same day at evening: Let us pass over to the other side.

 4:36 And they sent away the assembles, and took him into the vessel; and other vessels were with him.

 4:36 And they sent away the multitudes: and they conducted him in the ship as he was. And there were also with him other little ships.

 4:37 And there was a great commotion and wind, and the waves fell upon the vessel, which was nigh being filled.

 4:37 And there was a great tempest and wind: and the waves beat upon the ship, and it was near being filled.

 4:38 But Jeshu upon a pillow slept in the after-part of the vessel, and they came and raised him, saying to him, Raban, hast thou no care that we are perishing?

 4:38 And Jesus was asleep on a pillow in the hinder part of the ship. And they came and awoke him, and said to him: Our Rabbi, carest thou not, that we perish?

 4:39 And he arose, and restrained the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be silent. And the wind ceased, and there was a great stillness.

 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea: Cease; be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

 4:40 And he said to them, Why feared ye? how is it ye have no faith?

 4:40 And he said to them: Why were ye so fearful? and why have ye not faith?

 4:41 And they feared with great fear, and said among themselves, Who is this, to whom the winds and the sea are obedient?

 4:41 And they feared with great fear: and they said, one to another: Who is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
