Brenton's Septuagint (LXX) - Holy Name KJV
LXX < < Nehemiah{gr.Esdras B[B]} 5 > > KJV
1 The Jews complain of their debt, mortgage, and bondage. 6 Nehemiah rebuketh the usurers, and causeth them to make a covenant of restitution. 14 He forbeareth his own allowance, and keepeth hospitality.
 5:1 ¶
And the cry of the people and their wives [was] great against their brethren the Jews. |
|
 5:1 ¶
And there wasº
a greatº
cryº
of the peopleº
and of their wivesº
againstº
their brethrenº
the Jews.º |
 5:2
And some said, We [are] numerous with our sons and our daughters; so we will take corn, and eat, and live. |
|
 5:2
For there wereº
thatº
said,ºº
We,º
our sons,º
and our daughters,º
[are] many:º
therefore we take upºº
cornº
[for them], that we may eat,ºº
and live.ºº |
 5:3
And some said, [As to] our fields and vineyards and houses, let us pledge [them], and we will take corn, and eat. |
|
 5:3
[Some] also there wereº
thatº
said,ºº
Weº
have mortgagedºº
our lands,º
vineyards,º
and houses,º
that we might buyºº
corn,º
because of the dearth.º |
 5:4
And some said, We have borrowed money for the king's tributes:-- our fields, and our vineyards, and houses [are pledged]. |
|
 5:4
There wereº
also thatº
said,ºº
We have borrowedºº
moneyº
for the king'sº
tribute,º
[and that upon] our landsº
and vineyards.º |
 5:5
And now our flesh [is] as the flesh of our brethren, our children [are] as their children: yet, behold, we are reducing our sons and our daughters to slavery, and some of our daughters are enslaved: and there is no power of our hands, for our fields and our vineyards [belong] to the nobles. |
|
 5:5
Yet nowº
our fleshº
[is] as the fleshº
of our brethren,º
our childrenº
as their children:º
and, lo,º
weº
bring into bondageººº
our sonsº
and our daughtersº
to be servants,º
and [some] of our daughtersºº
areº
brought unto bondageºº
[already]: neitherº
[is it] in our powerºº
[to redeem them]; for otherº
menº
have our landsº
and vineyards.º |
 5:6 ¶
And I was much grieved as I heard their cry and these words. |
|
 5:6 ¶
And I was veryº
angryºº
whenº
I heardººº
their cryº
and theseº
words.º |
 5:7
And my heart took counsel within me, and I contended against the nobles, and the princes, and I said to them, Should every man demand of his brother what ye demand? And I appointed against them a great assembly, |
|
 5:7
Then I consultedºº
withº
myself,º
and I rebukedººº
the nobles,º
and the rulers,º
and saidºº
unto them, Yeº
exactººººººº
usury,º
every oneº
of his brother.º
And I setºº
a greatº
assemblyº
againstº
them. |
 5:8
and I said to them, We of our free-will have redeemed our brethren the Jews that were sold to the Gentiles; and do ye sell your brethren? and shall they be delivered to us? And they were silent, and found no answer. |
|
 5:8
And I saidºº
unto them, Weº
after our abilityº
have redeemedººº
our brethrenº
the Jews,º
which were soldºº
unto the heathen;º
and will yeº
evenº
sellººº
your brethren?º
or shall they be soldºº
unto us? Then held they their peace,ºº
and foundºº
nothingºº
[to answer]. |
 5:9
And I said, The thing which ye do [is] not good; ye will not so walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the Gentiles our enemies. |
|
 5:9
Also I said,ºº
It [is] notº
goodºº
thatºº
yeº
do:ºº
ought ye notº
to walkººº
in the fearº
of our Elohimº
because of the reproachºº
of the heathenº
our enemies?ºº |
 5:10
Both my brethren, and my acquaintances, and I, have lent them money and corn: let us now leave off this exaction. |
|
 5:10
Iº
likewise,º
[and] my brethren,º
and my servants,º
might exactºº
of them moneyº
and corn:º
I prayº
you, let us leave offººº
thisº
usury.º |
 5:11
Restore to them, I pray, as at this day, their fields, and their vineyards, and their olive-yards, and their houses, and bring forth to them corn and wine and oil of the money. |
|
 5:11
Restore,ºº
I prayº
you, to them, even this day,º
their lands,º
their vineyards,º
their oliveyards,º
and their houses,º
also the hundredthº
[part] of the money,º
and of the corn,º
the wine,º
and the oil,º
thatº
yeº
exactºº
of them. |
 5:12
And they said, We will restore, and we will not exact of them; we will do thus as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and bound them by oath to do according to this word. |
|
 5:12
Then saidºº
they, We will restoreºº
[them], and will requireºº
nothingº
ofº
them; soº
will we doºº
asº
thouº
sayest.ºº
Then I calledººº
the priests,º
and took an oathºº
of them, that they should doºº
according to thisº
promise.º |
 5:13
And I shook out my garment, and said, So may God shake out every man who shall not keep to this word, from his house, and from his labours, he shall be even thus shaken out, as an outcast and empty. And all the congregation said, Amen, and they praised the Lord: and the people did this thing. |
|
 5:13
Alsoº
I shookºº
my lap,º
and said,ºº
Soº
Elohimº
shake outººº
everyº
manº
from his house,ºº
and from his labour,ºº
thatº
performethºº
notºº
thisº
promise,º
even thusº
beº
he shaken out,ºº
and emptied.º
And allº
the congregationº
said,ºº
Amen,º
and praisedººº
Yahweh.º
And the peopleº
didºº
according to thisº
promise.º |
 5:14 ¶
From the day that he charged me to be their ruler in the land of Judah{gr.Juda}, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes{gr.Arthasastha}, twelve years, I and my brethren ate not [provision] extorted from them. |
|
 5:14 ¶
Moreoverº
from the timeºº
thatº
I was appointedºº
to beº
their governorº
in the landº
of Judah,º
from the twentiethº
yearºº
even untoº
the twoº
and thirtiethº
yearº
of Artaxerxesº
the king,º
[that is], twelveºº
years,º
Iº
and my brethrenº
have notº
eatenºº
the breadº
of the governor.º |
 5:15
But as for the former acts of extortion wherein [those who were] before me oppressed them, they even took of them their last money, forty didrachms for bread and wine; and the [very] outcasts of them exercised authority over the people: but I did not so, because of the fear of God. |
|
 5:15
But the formerº
governorsº
thatº
[had been] beforeº
me were chargeableºº
untoº
the people,º
and had takenºº
ofº
them breadº
and wine,º
besideº
fortyº
shekelsº
of silver;º
yea,º
evenº
their servantsº
bare ruleºº
overº
the people:º
but soº
didºº
notº
I,º
becauseºº
of the fearº
of Elohim.º |
 5:16
Also in the work of the wall I treated them not with rigor, I bought not land: and all that were gathered together [came] thither to the work. |
|
 5:16
Yea, alsoº
I continuedºº
in the workº
of thisº
wall,º
neitherº
boughtºº
we any land:º
and allº
my servantsº
[were] gatheredºº
thitherº
untoº
the work.º |
 5:17
And the Jews, to [the number of] a hundred and fifty men, besides those coming to us from the nations round about, [were] at my table. |
|
 5:17
Moreover [there were] atº
my tableº
an hundredº
and fiftyºº
of the Jewsº
and rulers,º
beside those that cameºº
untoº
us from amongº
the heathenº
thatº
[are] aboutº
us.º |
 5:18
And there came [to me] for one day one calf, and I had six choice sheep and a goat; and every ten days wine in abundance of all sorts: yet with these I required not the bread of extortion, because the bondage was heavy upon this people. |
|
 5:18
Now [that] whichº
wasº
preparedºº
[for me] dailyºº
[was] oneº
oxº
[and] sixº
choiceºº
sheep;º
also fowlsº
were preparedºº
for me, and onceº
in tenº
daysº
storeºº
of allº
sorts of wine:º
yet for allº
thisº
requiredºº
notº
I the breadº
of the governor,º
becauseº
the bondageº
was heavyºº
uponº
thisº
people.º |
 5:19
Remember me, O God, for good, [in] all that I have done to this people. |
|
 5:19
Thinkºº
upon me, my Elohim,º
for good,º
[according] to allº
thatº
I have doneºº
forº
thisº
people.º |
