Brenton's Septuagint (LXX) - Holy Name KJV
LXX < < Nehemiah{gr.Esdras B[B]} 9 > > KJV
1 A solemn feast, and repentance of the people. 4 The Levites make a religious confession of God's goodness, and their wickedness.
 9:1 ¶
Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel assembled with fasting, and in sackcloths, and with ashes on their head. |
|
 9:1 ¶
Now in the twentyº
and fourthº
dayº
of thisº
monthº
the childrenº
of Israelº
were assembledºº
with fasting,º
and with sackclothes,º
and earthº
uponº
them. |
 9:2
And the children of Israel separated themselves from every stranger, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers. |
|
 9:2
And the seedº
of Israelº
separatedºº
themselvesº
from allºº
strangers,ºº
and stoodºº
and confessedººº
their sins,º
and the iniquitiesº
of their fathers.º |
 9:3
And they stood in their place, and read in the book of the law of the Lord their god: and they confessed [their sins] to the Lord, and worshipped the Lord their God. |
|
 9:3
And they stood upºº
inº
their place,º
and readºº
in the bookº
of the lawº
of Yahwehº
their Elohimº
[one] fourthº
partº
of the day;º
and [another] fourthº
partº
they confessed,ºº
and worshippedºº
Yahwehº
their Elohim.º |
 9:4 ¶
[And] there stood upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua{gr.Jesus}, and the sons of Kadmiel{gr.Cadmiel}, Shechaniah{gr.Sechenia} the son of Sarabia, sons of Choneni; and they cried with a loud voice to the Lord their God. |
|
 9:4 ¶
Then stood upºº
uponº
the stairs,º
of the Levites,º
Jeshua,º
and Bani,º
Kadmiel,º
Shebaniah,º
Bunni,º
Sherebiah,º
Bani,º
[and] Chenani,º
and criedºº
with a loudº
voiceº
untoº
Yahwehº
their Elohim.º |
 9:5
And the Levites, Jeshua{gr.Jesus} and Kadmiel{gr.Cadmiel}, said, Rise up, bless the Lord our God forever and ever: and let them bless thy glorious name, and exalt it with all blessing and praise. |
|
 9:5
Then the Levites,º
Jeshua,º
and Kadmiel,º
Bani,º
Hashabniah,º
Sherebiah,º
Hodijah,º
Shebaniah,º
[and] Pethahiah,º
said,ºº
Stand upºº
[and] blessººº
Yahwehº
your Elohimº
for everºº
andº
ever:º
and blessedºº
be thy gloriousº
name,º
which is exaltedºº
aboveº
allº
blessingº
and praise.º |
 9:6
And Ezra{gr.Esdras} said, Thou art the only true Lord; thou madest the heaven, and the heaven of heavens, and all their array, the earth, and all things that are in it, the seas, and all things in them; and thou quickenest all things, and the hosts of heaven worship thee. |
|
 9:6
Thou,º
[even] thou,º
[art] Yahwehº
alone;º
thouº
hast madeººº
heaven,º
the heavenº
of heavens,º
with allº
their host,º
the earth,º
and allº
[things] thatº
[are] therein,º
the seas,º
and allº
thatº
[is] therein, and thouº
preservestººº
them all;º
and the hostº
of heavenº
worshippethºº
thee. |
 9:7
Thou art the Lord God, thou didst choose Abram, and broughtest him out of the land of the Chaldeans, and gavest him the name of Abraham{gr.Abraam}: |
|
 9:7
Thouº
[art] Yahwehº
the Elohim,º
whoº
didst chooseºº
Abram,º
and broughtest him forthºº
out of Urºº
of the Chaldees,º
and gavestºº
him the nameº
of Abraham;º |
 9:8
and thou foundest his heart faithful before thee, and didst make a covenant with him to give to him and to his seed the land of the Canaanites{gr.Chananites}, and the Hittites{gr.Chettites}, and Amorites, and Perizzites{gr.Pherezites}, and Jebusites, and Girgashites{gr.Gergesites}; and thou hast confirmed thy words, for thou [art] righteous. |
|
 9:8
And foundestººº
his heartº
faithfulºº
beforeº
thee, and madestºº
a covenantº
withº
him to giveººº
the landº
of the Canaanites,º
the Hittites,º
the Amorites,º
and the Perizzites,º
and the Jebusites,º
and the Girgashites,º
to giveºº
[it, I say], to his seed,º
and hast performedººº
thy words;º
forº
thouº
[art] righteous:º |
 9:9
And thou sawest the affliction of our fathers in Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and thou heardest their cry at the Red Sea. |
|
 9:9
And didst seeººº
the afflictionº
of our fathersº
in Egypt,º
and heardestºº
their cryº
byº
the Redº
sea;º |
 9:10
And thou shewedst signs and wonders in Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, on Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} and all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for thou knowest that they behaved insolently against them: and thou madest thyself a name, as at this day. |
|
 9:10
And shewedstºº
signsº
and wondersº
upon Pharaoh,º
and on allº
his servants,º
and on allº
the peopleº
of his land:º
forº
thou knewestºº
thatº
they dealt proudlyºº
againstº
them. So didst thou getºº
thee a name,º
as [it is] thisº
day.º |
 9:11
And thou didst cleave the sea before them, and they passed through the midst of the sea on dry land; and thou didst cast into the deep them that were about to pursue them, as a stone in the mighty water. |
|
 9:11
And thou didst divideºº
the seaº
beforeº
them, so that they went throughºº
the midstº
of the seaº
on the dry land;º
and their persecutorsºº
thou threwestºº
into the deeps,º
asº
a stoneº
into the mightyº
waters.º |
 9:12
And thou guidedst them by day by a pillar of cloud, and by night by a pillar of fire, to enlighten for them the way wherein they should walk. |
|
 9:12
Moreover thou leddestºº
them in the dayº
by a cloudyº
pillar;º
and in the nightº
by a pillarº
of fire,º
to give them lightºº
inº
the wayº
whereinº
they should go.ººº |
 9:13
Also thou camest down upon mount Sinai{gr.Sina}, and thou spakest to them out of heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and laws of truth, ordinances, and good commandments. |
|
 9:13
Thou camest downºº
also uponº
mountº
Sinai,º
and spakestºº
withº
them from heaven,ºº
and gavestºº
them rightº
judgments,º
and trueº
laws,º
goodº
statutesº
and commandments:º |
 9:14
And thou didst make known to them thy holy sabbath; thou didst enjoin upon them commandments, and ordinances, and a law, by the hand of thy servant Mosheh{gr.Moses}. |
|
 9:14
And madest knownºº
unto them thy holyº
sabbath,º
and commandedstºº
them precepts,º
statutes,º
and laws,º
by the handº
of Mosesº
thy servant:º |
 9:15
And thou gavest them bread from heaven for their food, and thou broughtest them forth water from a rock for their thirst; and thou badest them go in to inherit the land over which thou stretchedst out thy hand to give [it] them. |
|
 9:15
And gavestºº
them breadº
from heavenºº
for their hunger,º
and broughtest forthºº
waterº
for them out of the rockºº
for their thirst,º
and promisedstºº
them that they should go inºº
to possessººº
the landº
whichº
thou hadst swornºººº
to giveºº
them. |
 9:16
But they and our fathers behaved proudly, and hardened their neck, and did not hearken to thy commandments, |
|
 9:16
But theyº
and our fathersº
dealt proudly,ºº
and hardenedººº
their necks,º
and hearkenedºº
notº
toº
thy commandments,º |
 9:17
and refused to listen, and remembered not thy wonders which thou wroughtest with them; and they hardened their neck, and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Mizraim{gr.Egypt}: but thou, O God, [art] merciful and compassionate, long-suffering, and abundant in mercy, and thou didst not forsake them. |
|
 9:17
And refusedºº
to obey,ºº
neitherº
were mindfulºº
of thy wondersºº
thatº
thou didstºº
amongº
them; but hardenedººº
their necks,º
and in their rebellionº
appointedºº
a captainº
to returnºº
to their bondage:º
but thouº
[art] an Eloahº
ready to pardon,º
graciousº
and merciful,º
slowº
to anger,º
and of greatº
kindness,º
and forsookestºº
them not.º |
 9:18
And still farther they even made to themselves a molten calf, and said, These [are] the gods that brought us up out of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}: and they wrought great provocations. |
|
 9:18
Yea,º
whenº
they had madeºº
them a moltenº
calf,º
and said,ºº
Thisº
[is] thy Elohimº
thatº
brought thee upºº
out of Egypt,ºº
and had wroughtºº
greatº
provocations;º |
 9:19
Yet thou in thy great compassions didst not forsake them in the wilderness: thou didst not turn away from them the pillar of the cloud by day, to guide them in the way, nor the pillar of fire by night, to enlighten for them the way wherein they should walk. |
|
 9:19
Yet thouº
in thy manifoldº
merciesº
forsookestºº
them notº
in the wilderness:ºº
the pillarº
of the cloudº
departedºº
notº
fromºº
them by day,º
to leadºº
them in the way;º
neither the pillarº
of fireº
by night,º
to shew them light,ºº
and the wayº
whereinº
they should go.ººº |
 9:20
And thou gavest thy good Spirit to instruct them, and thou didst not withhold thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water in their thirst. |
|
 9:20
Thou gavestºº
also thy goodº
spiritº
to instructºº
them, and withheldestºº
notº
thy mannaº
from their mouth,ºº
and gavestºº
them waterº
for their thirst.º |
 9:21
And thou didst sustain them forty years in the wilderness; thou didst not allow anything to fail them: their garments did not wax old, and their feet were not bruised. |
|
 9:21
Yea, fortyº
yearsº
didst thou sustainºº
them in the wilderness,º
[so that] they lackedºº
nothing;º
their clothesº
waxed not old,ººº
and their feetº
swelledºº
not.º |
 9:22
Moreover, thou gavest them kingdoms, and didst divide nations to them: and they inherited the land of Sihon{gr.Seon} king of Heshbon{gr.Esebon}, and the land of Og king of Bashan{gr.Basan}. |
|
 9:22
Moreover thou gavestºº
them kingdomsº
and nations,º
and didst divideºº
them into corners:º
so they possessedººº
the landº
of Sihon,º
and the landº
of the kingº
of Heshbon,º
and the landº
of Ogº
kingº
of Bashan.º |
 9:23
And thou didst multiply their children as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land of which thou spokest to their fathers; |
|
 9:23
Their childrenº
also multipliedstºº
thou as the starsº
of heaven,º
and broughtestºº
them intoº
the land,º
concerning whichº
thou hadst promisedºº
to their fathers,º
that they should go inºº
to possessºº
[it]. |
 9:24
And they inherited it: and thou didst destroy from before them the dwellers in the land of the Canaanites{gr.Chananites}, and thou gavest into their hands them and their kings, and the nations of the land, to do unto them as it pleased them. |
|
 9:24
So the childrenº
went inºº
and possessedººº
the land,º
and thou subduedstºº
beforeº
themº
the inhabitantsºº
of the land,º
the Canaanites,º
and gavestºº
them into their hands,º
with their kings,º
and the peopleº
of the land,º
that they might doºº
with them as they would.º |
 9:25
And they took lofty cities, and inherited houses full of all good things, wells dug, vineyards, and oliveyards, and every fruit tree in abundance: so they ate, and were filled, and grew fat, and rioted in thy great goodness. |
|
 9:25
And they tookºº
strongºº
cities,º
and a fatº
land,º
and possessedºº
housesº
fullº
of allº
goods,º
wellsº
digged,ºº
vineyards,º
and oliveyards,º
and fruitº
treesº
in abundance:º
so they did eat,ºº
and were filled,ºº
and became fat,ºº
and delightedºº
themselvesº
in thy greatº
goodness.º |
 9:26
But they turned, and revolted from thee, and cast thy law behind their backs; and they slew thy prophets, who testified against them to turn them back to thee, and they wrought great provocations. |
|
 9:26
Nevertheless they were disobedient,ºº
and rebelledºº
against thee, and castººº
thy lawº
behindº
their backs,º
and slewºº
thy prophetsº
whichº
testifiedºº
against them to turnºº
them toº
thee, and they wroughtºº
greatº
provocations.º |
 9:27
Then thou gavest them into the hand of them that afflicted them, and they did afflict them: and they cried to thee in the time of their affliction, and thou didst hear them from thy heaven, and in thy great compassions gavest them deliverers, and didst save them from the hand of them that afflicted them. |
|
 9:27
Therefore thou deliveredstºº
them into the handº
of their enemies,º
who vexedºº
them: and in the timeº
of their trouble,º
when they criedºº
untoº
thee, thouº
heardestºº
[them] from heaven;ºº
and according to thy manifoldº
merciesº
thou gavestºº
them saviours,ºº
who savedºº
them out of the handºº
of their enemies.º |
 9:28
But when they rested, they did evil again before thee: so thou leftest them in the hands of their enemies, and they ruled over them: and they cried again to thee, and thou heardest [them] from heaven, and didst deliver them in thy great compassions. |
|
 9:28
But after they had rest,ºº
they didºº
evilº
againºº
beforeº
thee: therefore leftestºº
thou them in the handº
of their enemies,ºº
so that they had the dominionºº
over them: yet when they returned,ºº
and criedºº
unto thee, thouº
heardestºº
[them] from heaven;ºº
and manyº
timesº
didst thou deliverºº
them according to thy mercies;º |
 9:29
And thou didst testify against them, to bring them back to thy law: but they hearkened not, but sinned against thy commandments and thy judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them; and they turned their back, and hardened their neck, and heard not. |
|
 9:29
And testifiedstºº
against them, that thou mightest bring them againºº
untoº
thy law:º
yet theyº
dealt proudly,ºº
and hearkenedºº
notº
unto thy commandments,º
but sinnedºº
against thy judgments,º
(whichº
if a manº
do,ºº
he shall liveºº
in them;) and withdrewºººº
the shoulder,º
and hardenedºº
their neck,º
and would notº
hear.ºº |
 9:30
Yet thou didst bear long with them many years, and didst testify to them by thy Spirit by the hand of thy prophets: but they hearkened not; so thou gavest them into the hand of the nations of the land. |
|
 9:30
Yet manyº
yearsº
didst thou forbearººº
them, and testifiedstºº
against them by thy spiritº
inº
thy prophets:º
yet would they notº
give ear:ºº
therefore gavestºº
thou them into the handº
of the peopleº
of the lands.º |
 9:31
But thou in thy many mercies didst not appoint them to destruction, and didst not forsake them; for thou art strong, and merciful, and pitiful. |
|
 9:31
Nevertheless for thy greatº
mercies'º
sake thou didstºº
notº
utterly consumeºº
them, norº
forsakeºº
them; forº
thouº
[art] a graciousº
and mercifulº
El.º |
 9:32
And now, O our God, the powerful, the great, the mighty, and the terrible, keeping thy covenant and thy mercy, let not all the trouble seem little in thy sight which has come upon us, and our kings, and our princes, and our priests, and our prophets, and our fathers, and upon all thy people, from the days of the kings of Asshur{gr.Assur} even to this day. |
|
 9:32
Nowº
therefore, our Elohim,º
the great,º
the mighty,º
and the terribleºº
El,º
who keepestºº
covenantº
and mercy,º
let notºº
allº
the troubleº
seem littleºº
beforeº
thee, thatº
hath comeºº
uponº
us, on our kings,º
on our princes,º
and on our priests,º
and on our prophets,º
and on our fathers,º
and on allº
thy people,º
since the timeºº
of the kingsº
of Assyriaº
untoº
thisº
day.º |
 9:33
But thou [art] righteous in all the things that come upon us; for thou hast wrought faithfully, but we have greatly sinned. |
|
 9:33
Howbeit thouº
[art] justº
inº
allº
that is broughtºº
uponº
us; forº
thou hast doneºº
right,º
but weº
have done wickedly:ºº |
 9:34
And our kings, and our princes, and our priests, and our fathers, have not performed thy law, and have not given heed to thy commandments, and [have not kept] thy testimonies which thou didst testify to them. |
|
 9:34
Neither have our kings,º
our princes,º
our priests,º
norº
our fathers,º
keptºº
thy law,º
norº
hearkenedºº
untoº
thy commandmentsº
and thy testimonies,º
wherewithº
thou didst testifyºº
against them. |
 9:35
And they did not serve thee in thy kingdom, and in thy great goodness which thou gavest to them, and in the large and fat land which thou didst furnish before them, and they turned not from their evil devices. |
|
 9:35
For theyº
have notº
servedºº
thee in their kingdom,º
and in thy greatº
goodnessº
thatº
thou gavestºº
them, and in the largeº
and fatº
landº
whichº
thou gavestºº
beforeº
them, neitherº
turnedºº
they from their wickedº
works.ºº |
 9:36
Behold, we are servants this day, and [as for] the land which thou gavest to our fathers to eat the fruit of it and the good things of it, behold, we are servants upon it: |
|
 9:36
Behold,º
weº
[are] servantsº
this day,º
and [for] the landº
thatº
thou gavestºº
unto our fathersº
to eatººº
the fruitº
thereof and the goodº
thereof, behold,º
weº
[are] servantsº
inº
it: |
 9:37
and its produce [is] abundant for the kings whom thou didst appoint over us because of our sins; and they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, as it pleases them, and we are in great affliction. |
|
 9:37
And it yieldeth muchºº
increaseº
unto the kingsº
whomº
thou hast setºº
overº
us because of our sins:º
also they have dominionºº
overº
our bodies,º
and over our cattle,º
at their pleasure,º
and weº
[are] in greatº
distress.º |
 9:38
And in regard to all these circumstances we make a covenant, and write [it], and our princes, our Levites, [and] our priests, set their seal to [it]. |
|
 9:38
And because of allº
thisº
weº
makeºº
a sureº
[covenant], and writeºº
[it]; and our princes,º
Levites,º
[and] priests,º
sealººº
[unto it]. |
