 7:1 ¶ Thusº hath ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶהº shewedºº unto me; and, behold,º he formedºº grasshoppersº in the beginningº of the shooting upºº of the latter growth;º and, lo,º [it was] the latter growthº afterº the king'sº mowings.º

 7:1 ¶ Thus hath Adonay Yahweh shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, [it was] the latter growth after the king's mowings.

 7:2 And it came to pass,º [that] whenº they had made an endºº of eatingººº the grassº of the land,º then I said,ºº O ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º forgive,ºº I beseech thee:º by whomº shall Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹבº arise?ºº forº heº [is] small.º

 7:2 And it came to pass, [that] when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Adonay Yahweh, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Yaaqov arise? for he [is] small.

 7:3 Yähwè יָהוֶהº repentedºº forº this:º It shall notº be,º saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 7:3 Yahweh repented for this: It shall not be, saith Yahweh.

 7:4 ¶ Thusº hath ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶהº shewedºº unto me: and, behold,º ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶהº calledºº to contendºº by fire,º and it devouredººº the greatº deep,º and did eat upººº a part.º

 7:4 ¶ Thus hath Adonay Yahweh shewed unto me: and, behold, Adonay Yahweh called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

 7:5 Then saidºº I, O ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º cease,ºº I beseech thee:º by whomº shall Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹבº arise?ºº forº heº [is] small.º

 7:5 Then said I, O Adonay Yahweh, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Yaaqov arise? for he [is] small.

 7:6 Yähwè יָהוֶהº repentedºº forº this:º Thisº alsoº shall notº be,º saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 7:6 Yahweh repented for this: This also shall not be, saith Adonay Yahweh.

 7:7 ¶ Thusº he shewedºº me: and, behold,º Yähwè יָהוֶהº stoodºº uponº a wallº [made] by a plumbline,º with a plumblineº in his hand.º

 7:7 ¶ Thus he shewed me: and, behold, Yahweh stood upon a wall [made] by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

 7:8 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº untoº me, `Ämôs עָמוֹס,º whatº seestºº thou?º And I said,ºº A plumbline.º Then saidºº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º Behold,º I will setºº a plumblineº in the midstº of my peopleº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º I will notº againºº passº byºº them any more:º

 7:8 And Yahweh said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said Yahweh, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Yisrael: I will not again pass by them any more:

 7:9 And the high placesº of Yi$çäk יִשׂחָקº shall be desolate,ºº and the sanctuariesº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº shall be laid waste;ºº and I will riseºº againstº the houseº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº with the sword.º

 7:9 And the high places of Yischaq shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Yisrael shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Yorovam with the sword.

 7:10 ¶ Then ´Ámaxyà אֲמַציָהº the priestº of Bê± ´Ël בֵּית־אֵלº sentºº toº Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º saying,ºº `Ämôs עָמוֹסº hath conspiredºº againstº thee in the midstº of the houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º the landº is not ableººº to bearººº allº his words.º

 7:10 ¶ Then Amatzyah the priest of Beth-El sent to Yorovam king of Yisrael, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Yisrael: the land is not able to bear all his words.

 7:11 Forº thusº `Ämôs עָמוֹסº saith,ºº Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº shall dieºº by the sword,º and Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº shall surelyºº be led away captiveºº out ofºº their own land.º

 7:11 For thus Amos saith, Yorovam shall die by the sword, and Yisrael shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

 7:12 Also ´Ámaxyà אֲמַציָהº saidºº untoº `Ämôs עָמוֹס,º O thou seer,º go,ººº flee thee awayºº intoº the landº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º and thereº eatºº bread,º and prophesyºº there:º

 7:12 Also Amatzyah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Yehudah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

 7:13 But prophesyºº notº againºº any moreº at Bê± ´Ël בֵּית־אֵל:º forº itº [is] the king'sº chapel,º and itº [is] the king'sº court.º

 7:13 But prophesy not again any more at Beth-El: for it [is] the king's chapel, and it [is] the king's court.

 7:14 ¶ Then answeredºº `Ämôs עָמוֹס,º and saidºº toº ´Ámaxyà אֲמַציָה,º Iº [was] noº prophet,º neitherº [was] Iº a prophet'sº son;º butº Iº [was] an herdman,º and a gathererºº of sycomore fruit:º

 7:14 ¶ Then answered Amos, and said to Amatzyah, I [was] no prophet, neither [was] I a prophet's son; but I [was] an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

 7:15 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº tookºº me as I followedºº the flock,º and Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº untoº me, Go,ººº prophesyºº untoº my peopleº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 7:15 And Yahweh took me as I followed the flock, and Yahweh said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Yisrael.

 7:16 ¶ Nowº therefore hearºº thou the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶה:º Thouº sayest,ºº Prophesyºº notº againstº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and dropºº notº [thy word] againstº the houseº of Yi$çäk יִשׂחָק.º

 7:16 ¶ Now therefore hear thou the word of Yahweh: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Yisrael, and drop not [thy word] against the house of Yischaq.

 7:17 Thereforeº thusº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º Thy wifeº shall be an harlotºº in the city,º and thy sonsº and thy daughtersº shall fallºº by the sword,º and thy landº shall be dividedºº by line;º and thouº shalt dieºº inº a pollutedº land:º and Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº shall surelyºº go into captivityºº forth ofºº his land.º

 7:17 Therefore thus saith Yahweh; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Yisrael shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
