 3:1 ¶ Afterº theseº thingsº did kingº ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁº promoteººº Hämän הָמָןº the sonº of Hammæðä±ä´ הַמְּדָתָאº the ´Áqäqî אֲגָגִי,º and advancedºº him, and setººº his seatº aboveºº allº the princesº thatº [were] withº him.

 3:1 ¶ After these things did king Achashwerosh promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagi, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that [were] with him.

 3:2 And allº the king'sº servants,º thatº [were] in the king'sº gate,º bowed,ºº and reverencedºº Hämän הָמָן:º forº the kingº had soº commandedºº concerning him. But Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº bowedºº not,º norº did [him] reverence.ºº

 3:2 And all the king's servants, that [were] in the king's gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordokhay bowed not, nor did [him] reverence.

 3:3 Then the king'sº servants,º whichº [were] in the king'sº gate,º saidºº unto Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַי,º Whyº transgressestºº thouºº the king'sº commandment?º

 3:3 Then the king's servants, which [were] in the king's gate, said unto Mordokhay, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment?

 3:4 Now it came to pass,º when they spakeºº dailyº untoº him, and he hearkenedºº notº untoº them, that they toldºº Hämän הָמָן,º to seeºº whether Mordó¢ay's מָרדֳּכַיº mattersº would stand:ºº forº he had toldºº them thatº heº [was] a Yæhûðî יְהוּדִי.º

 3:4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordokhay's matters would stand: for he had told them that he [was] a Yehudi.

 3:5 And when Hämän הָמָןº sawºº thatº Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº bowedºº not,º nor did him reverence,ºº then was Hämän הָמָןº fullºº of wrath.º

 3:5 And when Haman saw that Mordokhay bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

 3:6 And he thoughtº scornºº to layºº handsº on Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº alone;º forº they had shewedºº himº the peopleº of Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַי:º wherefore Hämän הָמָןº soughtºº to destroyººº allº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº thatº [were] throughout the wholeº kingdomº of ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁ,º [even] the peopleº of Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַי.º

 3:6 And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordokhay alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordokhay: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Yehudim that [were] throughout the whole kingdom of Achashwerosh, [even] the people of Mordokhay.

 3:7 ¶ In the firstº month,º thatº [is], the monthº Nîsän נִיסָן,º in the twelfthºº yearº of kingº ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁ,º they castºº Pûr פּוּר,º thatº [is], the lot,º beforeº Hämän הָמָןº from dayºº to day,º and from monthºº to month,º [to] the twelfthºº [month], thatº [is], the monthº ´Áðär אֲדָר.º

 3:7 ¶ In the first month, that [is], the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Achashwerosh, they cast Pur, that [is], the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, [to] the twelfth [month], that [is], the month Adar.

 3:8 ¶ And Hämän הָמָןº saidºº unto kingº ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁ,º There isº a certainº peopleº scattered abroadºº and dispersedºº amongº the peopleº in allº the provincesº of thy kingdom;º and their lawsº [are] diverseºº from allºº people;º neitherº keepºº they the king'sº laws:º therefore it [is] notº for the king'sº profitºº to sufferººº them.

 3:8 ¶ And Haman said unto king Achashwerosh, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws [are] diverse from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it [is] not for the king's profit to suffer them.

 3:9 Ifº it pleaseººº the king,º let it be writtenºº that they may be destroyed:ºº and I will payºº tenº thousandº talentsº of silverº toº the handsº of those that have the chargeºº of the business,º to bringºº [it] intoº the king'sº treasuries.º

 3:9 If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring [it] into the king's treasuries.

 3:10 And the kingº tookººº his ringº fromºº his hand,º and gaveºº it unto Hämän הָמָןº the sonº of Hammæðä±ä´ הַמְּדָתָאº the ´Áqäqî אֲגָגִי,º the Yæhûðîm's יְהוּדִיםº enemy.ºº

 3:10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagi, the Yehudim's enemy.

 3:11 And the kingº saidºº unto Hämän הָמָן,º The silverº [is] givenºº to thee, the peopleº also, to doºº with them as it seemethº goodº to thee.º

 3:11 And the king said unto Haman, The silver [is] given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.

 3:12 Then were the king'sº scribesºº calledºº on the thirteenthºº dayº of the firstº month,º and there was writtenºº according to allº thatº Hämän הָמָןº had commandedºº untoº the king'sº lieutenants,º and toº the governorsº thatº [were] overº every province,º and toº the rulersº of every peopleº of every provinceº according to the writingº thereof, and [to] every peopleº after their language;º in the nameº of kingº ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁº was it written,ºº and sealedºº with the king'sº ring.º

 3:12 Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's lieutenants, and to the governors that [were] over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and [to] every people after their language; in the name of king Achashwerosh was it written, and sealed with the king's ring.

 3:13 And the lettersº were sentºº byº postsºº intoº allº the king'sº provinces,º to destroy,ºº to kill,ºº and to cause to perish,ººº allº Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים,º both youngºº andº old,º little childrenº and women,º in oneº day,º [even] upon the thirteenthºº [day] of the twelfthºº month,º whichº is the monthº ´Áðär אֲדָר,º and [to take] the spoilº of them for a prey.ºº

 3:13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Yehudim, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, [even] upon the thirteenth [day] of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and [to take] the spoil of them for a prey.

 3:14 The copyº of the writingº for a commandmentº to be givenºº in everyº provinceº was publishedºº unto allº people,º that they should beº readyº against thatº day.º

 3:14 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.

 3:15 The postsºº went out,ºº being hastenedºº by the king'sº commandment,º and the decreeº was givenºº in Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº the palace.º And the kingº and Hämän הָמָןº sat downºº to drink;ºº but the cityº Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº was perplexed.ºº

 3:15 The posts went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.
