 9:1 ¶ Now in the twelfthºº month,º thatº [is], the monthº ´Áðär אֲדָר,º on the thirteenthºº dayº of the same, whenº the king'sº commandmentº and his decreeº drew nearºº to be put in execution,ºº in the dayº thatº the enemiesºº of the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº hopedºº to have powerºº over them, (though itº was turnedºº to the contrary,º thatº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº had ruleºº overº themº that hatedºº them;)

 9:1 ¶ Now in the twelfth month, that [is], the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Yehudim hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Yehudim had rule over them that hated them;)

 9:2 The Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº gathered themselves togetherºº in their citiesº throughout allº the provincesº of the kingº ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁ,º to layºº handº on such as soughtºº their hurt:º and noº manº could withstandºº them;º forº the fearº of them fellºº uponº allº people.º

 9:2 The Yehudim gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Achashwerosh, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.

 9:3 And allº the rulersº of the provinces,º and the lieutenants,º and the deputies,º and officersººº ofº the king,º helpedººº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים;º becauseº the fearº of Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº fellºº uponº them.

 9:3 And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Yehudim; because the fear of Mordokhay fell upon them.

 9:4 Forº Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº [was] greatº in the king'sº house,º and his fameº went outºº throughout allº the provinces:º forº this manº Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº waxedºº greater and greater.º

 9:4 For Mordokhay [was] great in the king's house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordokhay waxed greater and greater.

 9:5 Thus the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº smoteºº allº their enemiesºº with the strokeº of the sword,º and slaughter,º and destruction,º and didºº what they wouldº unto those that hatedºº them.

 9:5 Thus the Yehudim smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.

 9:6 And in Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº the palaceº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº slewºº and destroyedºº fiveº hundredº men.º

 9:6 And in Shushan the palace the Yehudim slew and destroyed five hundred men.

 9:7 And Paršandä±ä´ פַּרשַׁנדָּתָא,º and Dalfôn דַּלפוֹן,º and ´Aspä±ä´ אַספָּתָא,º

 9:7 And Parshandatha, and Dalfon, and Aspatha,

 9:8 And Pôrä±ä´ פּוֹרָתָא,º and ´Áðalyä´ אֲדַליָא,º and ´Árîðä±ä´ אֲרִידָתָא,º

 9:8 And Poratha, and Adalya, and Aridatha,

 9:9 And Parmaštä´ פַּרמַשׁתָּא,º and ´Árîsay אֲרִיסַי,º and ´Áriðay אֲרִדַי,º and Wayæzä±ä´ וַיְזָתָא,º

 9:9 And Parmashta, and Arisay, and Ariday, and Wayezatha,

 9:10 The tenº sonsº of Hämän הָמָןº the sonº of Hammæðä±ä´ הַמְּדָתָא,º the enemyºº of the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים,º slewºº they; but on the spoilº laidºº they notºº their hand.º

 9:10 The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Yehudim, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand.

 9:11 On thatº dayº the numberº of those that were slainºº in Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº the palaceº was broughtºº beforeº the king.º

 9:11 On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.

 9:12 ¶ And the kingº saidºº unto ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº the queen,º The Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº have slainºº and destroyedºº fiveº hundredº menº in Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº the palace,º and the tenº sonsº of Hämän הָמָן;º whatº have they doneºº in the restº of the king'sº provinces?º now whatº [is] thy petition?º and it shall be grantedºº thee: or whatº [is] thy requestº further?º and it shall be done.ºº

 9:12 ¶ And the king said unto Ester the queen, The Yehudim have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? now what [is] thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what [is] thy request further? and it shall be done.

 9:13 Then saidºº ´Estër אֶסתֵּר,º Ifº it pleaseººº the king,º let it be grantedºº to the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº whichº [are] in Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº to doºº to morrowº alsoº according unto this day'sº decree,º and let Hämän's הָמָןº tenº sonsº be hangedºº uponº the gallows.º

 9:13 Then said Ester, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Yehudim which [are] in Shushan to do to morrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.

 9:14 And the kingº commandedºº it soº to be done:ºº and the decreeº was givenºº at Šûšan שׁוּשַׁן;º and they hangedºº Hämän's הָמָןº tenº sons.º

 9:14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.

 9:15 For the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº thatº [were] in Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº gathered themselves togetherºº on the fourteenthºº dayº alsoº of the monthº ´Áðär אֲדָר,º and slewºº threeº hundredº menº at Šûšan שׁוּשַׁן;º but on the preyº they laidºº notºº their hand.º

 9:15 For the Yehudim that [were] in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.

 9:16 But the otherº Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº thatº [were] in the king'sº provincesº gathered themselves together,ºº and stoodºº forº their lives,º and had restºº from their enemies,ººº and slewºº of their foesºº seventyº and fiveº thousand,º but they laidºº notºº their handsº on the prey,º

 9:16 But the other Yehudim that [were] in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,

 9:17 On the thirteenthºº dayº of the monthº ´Áðär אֲדָר;º and on the fourteenthºº day of the same restedºº they, and madeºº it a dayº of feastingº and gladness.º

 9:17 On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

 9:18 But the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº thatº [were] at Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº assembled togetherºº on the thirteenthºº [day] thereof, and on the fourteenthºº thereof; and on the fifteenthºº [day] of the same they rested,ºº and madeºº it a dayº of feastingº and gladness.º

 9:18 But the Yehudim that [were] at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth [day] thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth [day] of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

 9:19 Thereforeºº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº of the villages,º that dweltºº in the unwalledº towns,º madeººº the fourteenthºº dayº of the monthº ´Áðär אֲדָרº [a day of] gladnessº and feasting,º and a goodº day,º and of sendingº portionsº oneº to another.º

 9:19 Therefore the Yehudim of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar [a day of] gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.

 9:20 ¶ And Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº wroteººº theseº things,º and sentºº lettersº untoº allº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº thatº [were] in allº the provincesº of the kingº ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁ,º [both] nighº and far,º

 9:20 ¶ And Mordokhay wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Yehudim that [were] in all the provinces of the king Achashwerosh, [both] nigh and far,

 9:21 To stablishºº [this] amongº them, that they shouldº keepººº the fourteenthºº dayº of the monthº ´Áðär אֲדָר,º and the fifteenthºº dayº of the same, yearly,ºº

 9:21 To stablish [this] among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,

 9:22 As the daysº whereinº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº restedºº from their enemies,ººº and the monthº whichº was turnedºº unto them from sorrowºº to joy,º and from mourningºº into a goodº day:º that they should makeºº them daysº of feastingº and joy,º and of sendingº portionsº oneº to another,º and giftsº to the poor.º

 9:22 As the days wherein the Yehudim rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.

 9:23 And the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº undertookºº to doººº asº they had begun,ºº and asº Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº had writtenºº untoº them;

 9:23 And the Yehudim undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordokhay had written unto them;

 9:24 Becauseº Hämän הָמָןº the sonº of Hammæðä±ä´ הַמְּדָתָא,º the ´Áqäqî אֲגָגִי,º the enemyºº of allº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים,º had devisedºº againstº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº to destroyºº them, and had castºº Pûr פּוּר,º thatº [is], the lot,º to consumeºº them, and to destroyºº them;

 9:24 Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagi, the enemy of all the Yehudim, had devised against the Yehudim to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that [is], the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;

 9:25 But when [´Estër אֶסתֵּר] cameºº beforeº the king,º he commandedºº byº lettersº that his wickedº device,º whichº he devisedºº againstº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים,º should returnºº uponº his own head,º and that he and his sonsº should be hangedºº onº the gallows.º

 9:25 But when [Ester] came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Yehudim, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

 9:26 Whereforeºº they calledºº theseº daysº Pûrîm פּוּרִיםº afterº the nameº of Pûr פּוּר.º Thereforeºº forº allº the wordsº of thisº letter,º and [of that] whichº they had seenºº concerningº this matter,º and whichº had comeºº untoº them,

 9:26 Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and [of that] which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them,

 9:27 The Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº ordained,ºº and tookºº uponº them, and uponº their seed,º and uponº allº such as joinedºº themselvesº untoº them, so as it should notº fail,ºº that they would keepººº theseº twoº daysº according to their writing,º and according to their [appointed]º timeº everyº year;º

 9:27 The Yehudim ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their [appointed] time every year;

 9:28 And [that] theseº daysº [should be] rememberedºº and keptºº throughoutº everyº generation,º every family,º every province,º and every city;º and [that] theseº daysº of Pûrîm פּוּרִיםº should notº failºº from amongºº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים,º norº the memorialº of them perishºº from their seed.ºº

 9:28 And [that] these days [should be] remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and [that] these days of Purim should not fail from among the Yehudim, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.

 9:29 Then ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº the queen,º the daughterº of ´Ávîçäyil אֲבִיחָיִל,º and Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº the Yæhûðî יְהוּדִי,º wroteºº withº allº authority,º to confirmººº thisº secondº letterº of Pûrîm פּוּרִים.º

 9:29 Then Ester the queen, the daughter of Avichayil, and Mordokhay the Yehudi, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.

 9:30 And he sentºº the lettersº untoº allº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים,º toº the hundredº twentyº and sevenº provincesº of the kingdomº of ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁ,º [with] wordsº of peaceº and truth,º

 9:30 And he sent the letters unto all the Yehudim, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Achashwerosh, [with] words of peace and truth,

 9:31 To confirmººº theseº daysº of Pûrîm פּוּרִיםº in their timesº [appointed], according asº Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº the Yæhûðî יְהוּדִיº and ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº the queenº had enjoinedººº them, and asº they had decreedºº forº themselvesº and forº their seed,º the mattersº of the fastingsº and their cry.º

 9:31 To confirm these days of Purim in their times [appointed], according as Mordokhay the Yehudi and Ester the queen had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.

 9:32 And the decreeº of ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº confirmedºº theseº mattersº of Pûrîm פּוּרִים;º and it was writtenºº in the book.º

 9:32 And the decree of Ester confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
