 8:1 ¶ On thatº dayº did the kingº ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁº giveººº the houseº of Hämän הָמָןº the Yæhûðîm's יְהוּדִיםº enemyºº unto ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº the queen.º And Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº cameºº beforeº the king;º forº ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº had toldºº whatº heº [was] unto her.

 8:1 ¶ On that day did the king Achashwerosh give the house of Haman the Yehudim's enemy unto Ester the queen. And Mordokhay came before the king; for Ester had told what he [was] unto her.

 8:2 And the kingº took offººº his ring,º whichº he had takenºº from Hämän הָמָן,ºº and gaveºº it unto Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַי.º And ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº setººº Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº overº the houseº of Hämän הָמָן.º

 8:2 And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordokhay. And Ester set Mordokhay over the house of Haman.

 8:3 ¶ And ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº spakeºº yet againºº beforeº the king,º and fell downºº atº his feet,º and besoughtºº him with tearsºº to put awayººº the mischiefº of Hämän הָמָןº the ´Áqäqî אֲגָגִי,º and his deviceº thatº he had devisedºº againstº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים.º

 8:3 ¶ And Ester spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagi, and his device that he had devised against the Yehudim.

 8:4 Then the kingº held outººº the goldenº sceptreº toward ´Estër אֶסתֵּר.º So ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº arose,ºº and stoodºº beforeº the king,º

 8:4 Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Ester. So Ester arose, and stood before the king,

 8:5 And said,ºº Ifº it pleaseººº the king,º and ifº I have foundºº favourº in his sight,º and the thingº [seem] rightºº beforeº the king,º and Iº [be] pleasingºº in his eyes,º let it be writtenºº to reverseººº the lettersº devisedº by Hämän הָמָןº the sonº of Hammæðä±ä´ הַמְּדָתָאº the ´Áqäqî אֲגָגִי,º whichº he wroteºº to destroyººº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº whichº [are] in allº the king'sº provinces:º

 8:5 And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing [seem] right before the king, and I [be] pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagi, which he wrote to destroy the Yehudim which [are] in all the king's provinces:

 8:6 Forº howº can I endureºº to seeºº the evilº thatº shall comeºº untoºº my people?º or howº can I endureºº to seeºº the destructionº of my kindred?º

 8:6 For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?

 8:7 ¶ Then the kingº ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁº saidºº unto ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº the queenº and to Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº the Yæhûðî יְהוּדִי,º Behold,º I have givenºº ´Estër אֶסתֵּרº the houseº of Hämän הָמָן,º and him they have hangedºº uponº the gallows,º becauseºº he laidºº his handº upon the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים.º

 8:7 ¶ Then the king Achashwerosh said unto Ester the queen and to Mordokhay the Yehudi, Behold, I have given Ester the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Yehudim.

 8:8 Writeºº yeº also forº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים,º as it likethºº you,º in the king'sº name,º and sealºº [it] with the king'sº ring:º forº the writingº whichº is writtenºº in the king'sº name,º and sealedºº with the king'sº ring,º may noº man reverse.ºº

 8:8 Write ye also for the Yehudim, as it liketh you, in the king's name, and seal [it] with the king's ring: for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man reverse.

 8:9 Then were the king'sº scribesºº calledºº at thatº timeº in the thirdº month,º thatº [is], the monthº Sîwän סִיוָן,º on the threeº and twentiethº [day] thereof; and it was writtenºº according to allº thatº Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº commandedºº untoº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים,º and toº the lieutenants,º and the deputiesº and rulersº of the provincesº whichº [are] from Höddû הֹדּוּºº untoº Cûš כּוּשׁ,º an hundredº twentyº and sevenº provinces,º unto every provinceº according to the writingº thereof, and unto every peopleº after their language,º and toº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº according to their writing,º and according to their language.º

 8:9 Then were the king's scribes called at that time in the third month, that [is], the month Siwan, on the three and twentieth [day] thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordokhay commanded unto the Yehudim, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which [are] from Hoddu unto Kush, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Yehudim according to their writing, and according to their language.

 8:10 And he wroteºº in the kingº ´Áçašwërôš's אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁº name,º and sealedºº [it] with the king'sº ring,º and sentºº lettersº byº postsºº on horseback,º [and] ridersºº on mules,º camels,º [and] youngº dromedaries:º

 8:10 And he wrote in the king Achashwerosh's name, and sealed [it] with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, [and] riders on mules, camels, [and] young dromedaries:

 8:11 Whereinº the kingº grantedºº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº whichº [were] in everyº cityº to gather themselves together,ºº and to standºº forº their life,º to destroy,ºº to slay,ºº and to cause to perish,ººº allº the powerº of the peopleº and provinceº that would assaultºº them, [both] little onesº and women,º and [to take] the spoilº of them for a prey,ºº

 8:11 Wherein the king granted the Yehudim which [were] in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, [both] little ones and women, and [to take] the spoil of them for a prey,

 8:12 Upon oneº dayº in allº the provincesº of kingº ´Áçašwërôš אֲחַשׁוֵרוֹשׁ,º [namely], upon the thirteenthºº [day] of the twelfthºº month,º whichº [is] the monthº ´Áðär אֲדָר.º

 8:12 Upon one day in all the provinces of king Achashwerosh, [namely], upon the thirteenth [day] of the twelfth month, which [is] the month Adar.

 8:13 The copyº of the writingº for a commandmentº to be givenºº in everyº provinceº [was] publishedºº unto allº people,º and that the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº should beº readyººº against thatº dayº to avengeºº themselvesº on their enemies.ººº

 8:13 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province [was] published unto all people, and that the Yehudim should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.

 8:14 [So] the postsºº that rodeºº uponº mulesº [and] camelsº went out,ºº being hastenedºº and pressed onºº by the king'sº commandment.º And the decreeº was givenºº at Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº the palace.º

 8:14 [So] the posts that rode upon mules [and] camels went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment. And the decree was given at Shushan the palace.

 8:15 ¶ And Mordó¢ay מָרדֳּכַיº went outºº from the presenceºº of the kingº in royalº apparelº of blueº and white,º and with a greatº crownº of gold,º and with a garmentº of fine linenº and purple:º and the cityº of Šûšan שׁוּשַׁןº rejoicedºº and was glad.ºº

 8:15 ¶ And Mordokhay went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.

 8:16 The Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº hadº light,º and gladness,º and joy,º and honour.º

 8:16 The Yehudim had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour.

 8:17 And in everyº province,º and in everyº city,º whithersoeverºº the king'sº commandmentº and his decreeº came,ºº the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº had joyº and gladness,º a feastº and a goodº day.º And manyº of the peopleºº of the landº became Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִים;ºº forº the fearº of the Yæhûðîm יְהוּדִיםº fellºº uponº them.

 8:17 And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Yehudim had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Yehudim; for the fear of the Yehudim fell upon them.
