 4:1 ¶
Then
´Élîfäz
אֱלִיפָזº
the
Têmänî
תֵּימָנִיº
answeredºº
and said,ºº |
|
 4:1 ¶
Then Elifaz the Temani answered and said, |
 4:2
[If] we assayºº
to communeºº
withº
thee, wilt thou be grieved?ºº
but whoº
canºº
withholdºº
himself from speaking?º |
 4:2
[If] we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking? |
 4:3
Behold,º
thou hast instructedºº
many,º
and thou hast strengthenedºº
the weakº
hands.º |
 4:3
Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands. |
 4:4
Thy wordsº
have upholdenºº
him that was falling,ºº
and thou hast strengthenedºº
the feebleºº
knees.º |
 4:4
Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. |
 4:5
Butº
nowº
it is comeºº
uponº
thee, and thou faintest;ºº
it touchethººº
thee, and thou art troubled.ºº |
 4:5
But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. |
 4:6
[Is] notº
[this] thy fear,º
thy confidence,º
thy hope,º
and the uprightnessº
of thy ways?º |
 4:6
[Is] not [this] thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways? |
 4:7
Remember,ºº
I pray thee,º
whoº
[ever] perished,ºº
being innocent?º
or whereº
were the righteousº
cut off?ºº |
 4:7
Remember, I pray thee, who [ever] perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off? |
 4:8
Even asº
I have seen,ºº
they that plowºº
iniquity,º
and sowºº
wickedness,º
reapºº
the same. |
 4:8
Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. |
 4:9
By the blastºº
of
´Élôåh
אֱלוֹהַº
they perish,ºº
and by the breathºº
of his nostrilsº
are they consumed.ºº |
 4:9
By the blast of Eloah they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. |
 4:10
The roaringº
of the lion,º
and the voiceº
of the fierce lion,º
and the teethº
of the young lions,º
are broken.ºº |
 4:10
The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. |
 4:11
The old lionº
perishethºº
for lackºº
of prey,º
and the stout lion'sº
whelpsº
are scattered abroad.ºº |
 4:11
The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad. |
 4:12
Now a thingº
was secretly broughtºº
toº
me, and mine earº
receivedºº
a littleº
thereof.º |
 4:12
Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof. |
 4:13
In thoughtsº
from the visionsºº
of the night,º
when deep sleepº
fallethºº
onº
men,ºº |
 4:13
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men, |
 4:14
Fearº
cameºº
uponº
me, and trembling,ºº
which made allº
my bonesº
to shake.ºº |
 4:14
Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. |
 4:15
Then a spiritº
passedºº
beforeº
my face;º
the hairº
of my fleshº
stood up:ºº |
 4:15
Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up: |
 4:16
It stood still,ºº
but I could notº
discernºº
the formº
thereof: an imageº
[was] beforeº
mine eyes,º
[there was] silence,º
and I heardºº
a voice,º
[saying], |
 4:16
It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image [was] before mine eyes, [there was] silence, and I heard a voice, [saying], |
 4:17
Shall mortal manº
be more justºº
than
´Élôåh
אֱלוֹהַ?ººº
shall a manº
be more pureºº
than his maker?ººº |
 4:17
Shall mortal man be more just than Eloah? shall a man be more pure than his maker? |
 4:18
Behold,º
he put no trustººº
in his servants;º
and his angelsº
he chargedºº
with folly:º |
 4:18
Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly: |
 4:19
How much lessº
[in] them that dwellºº
inº
housesº
of clay,º
whoseº
foundationº
[is] in the dust,º
[which] are crushedºº
beforeº
the moth?º |
 4:19
How much less [in] them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation [is] in the dust, [which] are crushed before the moth? |
 4:20
They are destroyedºº
from morningºº
to evening:º
they perishºº
for everº
without anyºº
regardingºº
[it]. |
 4:20
They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding [it]. |
 4:21
Doth notº
their excellencyº
[which is] in them go away?ºº
they die,ºº
even withoutº
wisdom.º |
 4:21
Doth not their excellency [which is] in them go away? they die, even without wisdom. |
