2 Kings 10

1 Jehu, by his letters, causeth seventy of Ahab's children to be beheaded. 8 He excuseth the fact by the prophecy of Elijah. 12 At the shearing house he slayeth two and forty of Ahaziah's brethren. 15 He taketh Jehonadab into his company. 18 By subtilty he destroyeth all the worshippers of Baal. 29 Jehu followeth Jeroboam's sins. 32 Hazael oppresseth Israel. 35 Jehoahaz succeedeth Jehu.

 10:1 Now Ahab 256 had seventy 7657 sons 1121 in Samaria 8111. And Jehu 3058 wrote 3789 letters 5612 and sent 7971 [them] to Samaria 8111, to the rulers 8269 of Jezreel 3157, the elders 2205, and to the guardians 539 of [the children of] Ahab 256, saying 559,

 10:2 “Now 6258, when this 2088 letter 5612 comes 935 to you, since your master’s 113 sons 1121 are with you, as well as the chariots 7393 and horses 5483b and a fortified 4013 city 5892b and the weapons 5402,

 10:3 select 7200 the best 2896a and fittest 3477 of your master’s 113 sons 1121, and set 7760 [him] on his father’s 1 throne 3678, and fight 3898a for your master’s 113 house 1004.”

 10:4 But they feared 3372a greatly 3966 and said 559, “Behold 2009, the two 8147 kings 4428 did not stand 5975 before 6440 him; how 349 then can we stand 5975?”

 10:5 And the one who 834 [was] over 5921 the household 1004, and he who 834 [was] over 5921 the city 5892b, the elders 2205, and the guardians 539 of [the children], sent 7971 [word] to Jehu 3058, saying 559, “We are your servants 5650, all 3605 that you say 559 to us we will do 6213a, we will not make 4427a any 376 man 376 king 4427a; do 6213a what 2896a is good 2896a in your sight 5869.”

 10:6 Then he wrote 3789 a letter 5612 to them a second 8145 time 8145 saying 559, “If 518 you are on my side, and you will listen 8085 to my voice 6963, take 3947 the heads 7218 of the men 376, your master’s 113 sons 1121, and come 935 to me at Jezreel 3157 tomorrow 4279 about this time 6256.” Now the king’s 4428 sons 1121, seventy 7657 persons 376, [were] with the great 1419 men 1419 of the city 5892b, [who] were rearing 1431 them.

 10:7 When the letter 5612 came 935 to them, they took 3947 the king’s 4428 sons 1121 and slaughtered 7819 [them], seventy 7657 persons 376, and put 7760 their heads 7218 in baskets 1731, and sent 7971 [them] to him at Jezreel 3157.

 10:8 When the messenger 4397 came 935 and told 5046 him, saying 559, “They have brought 935 the heads 7218 of the king’s 4428 sons 1121,” he said 559, “Put 7760 them in two 8147 heaps 6652 at the entrance 6607 of the gate 8179 until 5704 morning 1242.”

 10:9 Now in the morning 1242 he went 3318 out and stood 5975 and said 559 to all 3605 the people 5971a, “You are innocent 6662; behold 2009, I conspired 7194 against 5921 my master 113 and killed 2026 him, but who 4310 killed 5221 all 3605 these 428?

 10:10 “Know 3045 then 645 that there shall fall 5307 to the earth 776 nothing 3808 of the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, which 834 the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 concerning 5921 the house 1004 of Ahab 256, for the LORD 3068 has done 6213a what 834 He spoke 1696 through 3027 His servant 5650 Elijah 452.”

 10:11 So Jehu 3058 killed 5221 all 3605 who remained 7604 of the house 1004 of Ahab 256 in Jezreel 3157, and all 3605 his great 1419 men 1419 and his acquaintances 3045 and his priests 3548, until 5704 he left 7604 him without 1115 a survivor 8300.

 10:12 ¶ Then he arose 6965 and departed 935 and went 1980 to Samaria 8111. On the way 1870 while he was at Beth-eked 1044 of the shepherds 7462a,

 10:13 Jehu 3058 met 4672 the relatives 251 of Ahaziah 274 king 4428 of Judah 3063 and said 559, “Who 4310 are you?” And they answered 559, “We are the relatives 251 of Ahaziah 274; and we have come 3381 down 3381 to greet 7965 the sons 1121 of the king 4428 and the sons 1121 of the queen 1377 mother 1377.”

 10:14 He said 559, “Take 8610 them alive 2416a.” So they took 8610 them alive 2416a and killed 7819 them at the pit 953a of Beth-eked 1044, forty-two 705 8147 men 376; and he left 7604 none 3808 376 of them.

 10:15 ¶ Now when he had departed 1980 from there 8033, he met 4672 Jehonadab 3082 the son 1121 of Rechab 7394 [coming] to meet 7122 him; and he greeted 1288 him and said 559 to him, “Is your heart 3824 right 3477, as my heart 3824 is with your heart 3824?” And Jehonadab 3082 answered 559, “It is.” [Jehu said], “If it is, give 5414 [me] your hand 3027.” And he gave 5414 him his hand 3027, and he took 5927 him up to him into the chariot 4818.

 10:16 He said 559, “Come 1980 with me and see 7200 my zeal 7068 for the LORD 3068.” So he made him ride 7392 in his chariot 7393.

 10:17 When he came 935 to Samaria 8111, he killed 5221 all 3605 who remained 7604 to Ahab 256 in Samaria 8111, until 5704 he had destroyed 8045 him, according to the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 which 834 He spoke 1696 to Elijah 452.

 10:18 ¶ Then Jehu 3058 gathered 6908 all 3605 the people 5971a and said 559 to them, “Ahab 256 served 5647 Baal 1168a a little 4592; Jehu 3058 will serve 5647 him much 7235a.

 10:19 “Now 6258, summon 7121 all 3605 the prophets 5030 of Baal 1168a, all 3605 his worshipers 5647 and all 3605 his priests 3548; let no 408 one 376 be missing 6485, for I have a great 1419 sacrifice 2077 for Baal 1168a; whoever 3605 834 is missing 6485 shall not live 2421a.” But Jehu 3058 did 6213a it in cunning 6122, so 4616 that he might destroy 6 the worshipers 5647 of Baal 1168a.

 10:20 And Jehu 3058 said 559, “Sanctify 6942 a solemn 6116 assembly 6116 for Baal 1168a.” And they proclaimed 7121 [it].

 10:21 Then Jehu 3058 sent 7971 throughout 3605 Israel 3478 and all 3605 the worshipers 5647 of Baal 1168a came 935, so that there was not a man 376 left 7604 who 834 did not come 935. And when they went 935 into the house 1004 of Baal 1168a, the house 1004 of Baal 1168a was filled 4390 from one 6310 end 6310 to the other 6310.

 10:22 He said 559 to the one who 834 [was] in charge 5921 of the wardrobe 4458, “Bring 3318 out garments 3830 for all 3605 the worshipers 5647 of Baal 1168a.” So he brought 3318 out garments 4403 for them.

 10:23 Jehu 3058 went 935 into the house 1004 of Baal 1168a with Jehonadab 3082 the son 1121 of Rechab 7394; and he said 559 to the worshipers 5647 of Baal 1168a, “Search 2664 and see 7200 that there 3426 is here 6311 with you none 6435 of the servants 5650 of the LORD 3068, but only 905 the worshipers 5647 of Baal 1168a.”

 10:24 Then they went 935 in to offer 6213a sacrifices 2077 and burnt 5930a offerings 5930a. ¶ Now Jehu 3058 had stationed 7760 for himself eighty 8084 men 376 outside 2351, and he had said 559, “The one 376 who 834 permits any 4480 of the men 376 whom 834 I bring 935 into your hands 3027 to escape 4422 shall give up his life 5315 in exchange 8478.”

 10:25 ¶ Then it came 1961 about, as soon as he had finished 3615 offering 6213a the burnt 5930a offering 5930a, that Jehu 3058 said 559 to the guard 7323 and to the royal 7991c officers 7991c, “Go 935 in, kill 5221 them; let none 376 408 come 3318 out.” And they killed 5221 them with the edge 6310 of the sword 2719; and the guard 7323 and the royal 7991c officers 7991c threw 7993 [them] out, and went 1980 to the inner 5892b room 5892b of the house 1004 of Baal 1168a.

 10:26 They brought 3318 out the [sacred] pillars 4676 of the house 1004 of Baal 1168a and burned 8313 them.

 10:27 They also broke 5422 down 5422 the [sacred] pillar 4676 of Baal 1168a and broke 5422 down 5422 the house 1004 of Baal 1168a, and made 7760 it a latrine 4280 to this day 3117.

 10:28 ¶ Thus Jehu 3058 eradicated 8045 Baal 1168a out of Israel 3478.

 10:29 However 7534, [as for] the sins 2399 of Jeroboam 3379 the son 1121 of Nebat 5028, which 834 he made Israel 3478 sin 2398, from these Jehu 3058 did not depart 5493, [even] the golden 2091 calves 5695 that [were] at Bethel 1008 and that [were] at Dan 1835.

 10:30 The LORD 3068 said 559 to Jehu 3058, “Because 3282 834 you have done 2895 well 2895 in executing 6213a what 3477 is right 3477 in My eyes 5869, [and] have done 6213a to the house 1004 of Ahab 256 according to all 3605 that [was] in My heart 3824, your sons 1121 of the fourth 7243 generation shall sit 3427 on the throne 3678 of Israel 3478.”

 10:31 But Jehu 3058 was not careful 8104 to walk 1980 in the law 8451 of the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Israel 3478, with all 3605 his heart 3824; he did not depart 5493 from the sins 2403b of Jeroboam 3379, which 834 he made Israel 3478 sin 2398.

 10:32 ¶ In those 1992a days 3117 the LORD 3068 began 2490c to cut 7096 off 7096 [portions] from Israel 3478; and Hazael 2371 defeated 5221 them throughout 3605 the territory 1366 of Israel 3478:

 10:33 from the Jordan 3383 eastward 4217, all 3605 the land 776 of Gilead 1568, the Gadites 1425 and the Reubenites 7206 and the Manassites 4520, from Aroer 6177, which 834 is by the valley 5158a of the Arnon 769, even Gilead 1568 and Bashan 1316.

 10:34 Now the rest 3499a of the acts 1697 of Jehu 3058 and all 3605 that he did 6213a and all 3605 his might 1369, are they not written 3789 in the Book 5612 of the Chronicles 1697 3117 of the Kings 4428 of Israel 3478?

 10:35 And Jehu 3058 slept 7901 with his fathers 1, and they buried 6912 him in Samaria 8111. And Jehoahaz 3059 his son 1121 became 4427a king 4427a in his place 8478.

 10:36 Now the time 3117 which 834 Jehu 3058 reigned 4427a over 5921 Israel 3478 in Samaria 8111 [was] twenty-eight 6242 8083 years 8141.
