Deuteronomy 19

1 The cities of refuge. 4 The privilege thereof for the manslayer. 14 The landmark is not to be removed. 15 Two witnesses at the least. 16 The punishment of a false witness.

 19:1 “When 3588 the LORD 3068 your God 430 cuts 3772 off 3772 the nations 1471, whose 834 land 776 the LORD 3068 your God 430 gives 5414 you, and you dispossess 3423 them and settle 3427 in their cities 5892b and in their houses 1004,

 19:2 you shall set 914 aside 914 three 7969 cities 5892b for yourself in the midst 8432 of your land 776, which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 gives 5414 you to possess 3423.

 19:3 “You shall prepare 3559 the roads 1870 for yourself, and divide 8027 into three 8027 parts 8027 the territory 1366 of your land 776 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 will give 5157 you as a possession 5157, so that any 3605 manslayer 7523 may flee 5127 there 8033.

 19:4 ¶ “Now this 2088 is the case 1697 of the manslayer 7523 who 834 may flee 5127 there 8033 and live 2421a: when 834 he kills 5221 his friend 7453 unintentionally 1847 1097, not hating 8130 him previously 8543 8032a—

 19:5 as when 834 [a man] goes 935 into the forest 3293a with his friend 7453 to cut 2404 wood 6086, and his hand 3027 swings 5080 the axe 1631 to cut 3772 down 3772 the tree 6086, and the iron 1270 [head] slips 5394 off 5394 the handle 6086 and strikes 4672 his friend 7453 so that he dies 4191—he may flee 5127 to one 259 of these 428 cities 5892b and live 2421a;

 19:6 otherwise 6435 the avenger 1350 of blood 1818 might pursue 7291 the manslayer 7523 in the heat 2552 of his anger 3824, and overtake 5381 him, because 3588 the way 1870 is long 7235a, and take 5221 his life 5315, though he was not deserving 4941 of death 4194, since 3588 he had not hated 8130 him previously 8543 8032a.

 19:7 “Therefore 5921 3651, I command 6680 you, saying 559, ‘You shall set 914 aside 914 three 7969 cities 5892b for yourself.’

 19:8 ¶ “If 518 the LORD 3068 your God 430 enlarges 7337 your territory 1366, just 3152c as He has sworn 7650 to your fathers 1, and gives 5414 you all 3605 the land 776 which 834 He promised 1696 to give 5414 your fathers 1—

 19:9 if 3588 you carefully 6213a observe 8104 all 3605 this 2088 commandment 4687 which 834 I command 6680 you today 3117, to love 157 the LORD 3068 your God 430, and to walk 1980 in His ways 1870 always 3605 3117—then you shall add 3254 three 7969 more 5750 cities 5892b for yourself, besides 5921 these 428 three 7969.

 19:10 “So innocent 5355a blood 1818 will not be shed 8210 in the midst 7130 of your land 776 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 gives 5414 you as an inheritance 5159, and bloodguiltiness 1818 be on you.

 19:11 ¶ “But if 3588 there is a man 376 who hates 8130 his neighbor 7453 and lies 693 in wait 693 for him and rises 6965 up against 5921 him and strikes 5221 him so that he dies 4191, and he flees 5127 to one 259 of these 411 cities 5892b,

 19:12 then the elders 2205 of his city 5892b shall send 7971 and take 3947 him from there 8033 and deliver 5414 him into the hand 3027 of the avenger 1350 of blood 1818, that he may die 4191.

 19:13 “You shall not pity 2347 him, but you shall purge 1197a the blood 1818 of the innocent 5355a from Israel 3478, that it may go 2895 well 2895 with you.

 19:14 ¶ “You shall not move 5472 your neighbor’s 7453 boundary 1366 mark, which 834 the ancestors 7223 have set 1379, in your inheritance 5159 which 834 you will inherit 5157 in the land 776 that the LORD 3068 your God 430 gives 5414 you to possess 3423.

 19:15 ¶ “A single 259 witness 5707 shall not rise 6965 up against a man 376 on account of any 3605 iniquity 5771 or any 3605 sin 2399 which 834 he has committed 2398; on the evidence 6310 of two 8147 or 176 three 7969 witnesses 5707 a matter 1697 shall be confirmed 6965.

 19:16 “If 3588 a malicious 2555 witness 5707 rises 6965 up against a man 376 to accuse 6030a him of wrongdoing 5627,

 19:17 then both 8147 the men 376 who 834 have the dispute 7379 shall stand 5975 before 6440 the LORD 3068, before 6440 the priests 3548 and the judges 8199 who 834 will be [in office] in those 1992a days 3117.

 19:18 “The judges 8199 shall investigate 1875 thoroughly 3190, and if 2009 the witness 5707 is a false 8267 witness 5707 [and] he has accused 6030a his brother 251 falsely 8267,

 19:19 then you shall do 6213a to him just 3152c as he had intended 2161 to do 6213a to his brother 251. Thus you shall purge 1197a the evil 7451b from among 7130 you.

 19:20 “The rest 7604 will hear 8085 and be afraid 3372a, and will never 3808 again 5750 3254 do 6213a such 2088 an evil 7451a thing 1697 among 7130 you.

 19:21 “Thus you shall not show 2347 pity 2347: life 5315 for life 5315, eye 5869 for eye 5869, tooth 8127 for tooth 8127, hand 3027 for hand 3027, foot 7272 for foot 7272.
