Deuteronomy 8
An exhortation to obedience in regard of God's dealing with them.
8:1
“All 3605 the commandments 4687 that I am commanding 6680 you today 3117 you shall be careful 8104 to do 6213a, that you may live 2421a and multiply 7235a, and go 935 in and possess 3423 the land 776 which 834 the LORD 3068 swore 7650 [to give] to your forefathers 1.
8:2
“You shall remember 2142 all 3605 the way 1870 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 has led 1980 you in the wilderness 4057b these 2088 forty 705 years 8141, that He might humble 6031a you, testing 5254 you, to know 3045 what 834 was in your heart 3824, whether you would keep 8104 His commandments 4687 or 518 not.
8:3
“He humbled 6031a you and let you be hungry 7456, and fed 398 you with manna 4478a which 834 you did not know 3045, nor 3808 did your fathers 1 know 3045, that He might make you understand 3045 that man 120 does not live 2421a by bread 3899 alone 905, but man 120 lives 2421a by everything 3605 that proceeds 4161 out of the mouth 6310 of the LORD 3068.
8:4
“Your clothing 8071 did not wear 1086 out on you, nor 3808 did your foot 7272 swell 1216 these 2088 forty 705 years 8141.
8:5
“Thus you are to know 3045 in your heart 3824 that the LORD 3068 your God 430 was disciplining 3256 you just 3512c as a man 376 disciplines 3256 his son 1121.
8:6
“Therefore, you shall keep 8104 the commandments 4687 of the LORD 3068 your God 430, to walk 1980 in His ways 1870 and to fear 3372a Him.
8:7
“For the LORD 3068 your God 430 is bringing 935 you into a good 2896a land 776, a land 776 of brooks 5158a of water 4325, of fountains 5871a and springs 8415, flowing 3318 forth 3318 in valleys 1237 and hills 2022;
8:8
a land 776 of wheat 2406 and barley 8184, of vines 1612 and fig 8384 trees 8384 and pomegranates 7416, a land 776 of olive 2132 oil 8081 and honey 1706;
8:9
a land 776 where 834 you will eat 398 food 3899 without 3808 scarcity 4544, in which you will not lack 2637 anything 3605; a land 776 whose 834 stones 68 are iron 1270, and out of whose hills 2022 you can dig 2672 copper 5178.
8:10
“When you have eaten 398 and are satisfied 7646, you shall bless 1288 the LORD 3068 your God 430 for the good 2896a land 776 which 834 He has given 5414 you.
8:11
¶ “Beware 8104 that you do not forget 7911 the LORD 3068 your God 430 by not keeping 8104 His commandments 4687 and His ordinances 4941 and His statutes 2708 which 834 I am commanding 6680 you today 3117;
8:12
otherwise 6435, when you have eaten 398 and are satisfied 7646, and have built 1129 good 2896a houses 1004 and lived 3427 [in them],
8:13
and when your herds 1241 and your flocks 6629 multiply 7235a, and your silver 3701 and gold 2091 multiply 7235a, and all 3605 that you have multiplies 7235a,
8:14
then your heart 3824 will become 7311 proud 7311 and you will forget 7911 the LORD 3068 your God 430 who brought 3318 you out from the land 776 of Egypt 4714, out of the house 1004 of slavery 5650.
8:15
“He led 1980 you through the great 1419 and terrible 3372a wilderness 4057b, [with its] fiery 8314a serpents 8314a and scorpions 6137 and thirsty 6774 ground 6774 where 834 there 369 was no 369 water 4325; He brought 3318 water 4325 for you out of the rock 6697 of flint 2496.
8:16
“In the wilderness 4057b He fed 398 you manna 4478a which 834 your fathers 1 did not know 3045, that He might humble 6031a you and that He might test 5254 you, to do 3190 good 3190 for you in the end 319.
8:17
“Otherwise, you may say 559 in your heart 3824, ‘My power 3581b and the strength 6108 of my hand 3027 made 6213a me this 2088 wealth 2428.’
8:18
“But you shall remember 2142 the LORD 3068 your God 430, for it is He who is giving 5414 you power 3581b to make 6213a wealth 2428, that He may confirm 6965 His covenant 1285 which 834 He swore 7650 to your fathers 1, as [it is] this 2088 day 3117.
8:19
“It shall come 1961 about if 518 you ever 7911 forget 7911 the LORD 3068 your God 430 and go 1980 after 310 other 312 gods 430 and serve 5647 them and worship 7812 them, I testify 5749b against you today 3117 that you will surely 6 perish 6.
8:20
“Like the nations 1471 that the LORD 3068 makes 6 to perish 6 before 4480 6440 you, so 3651 you shall perish 6; because 6118 you would not listen 8085 to the voice 6963 of the LORD 3068 your God 430.
