Joshua 22

1 The two tribes and half with a blessing are sent home. 10 They build the altar of testimony in their journey. 11 The Israelites are offended thereat. 21 They give them good satisfaction.

 22:1 Then 227 Joshua 3091 summoned 7121 the Reubenites 7206 and the Gadites 1425 and the half-tribe 2677 4294 of Manasseh 4519,

 22:2 and said 559 to them, “You have kept 8104 all 3605 that Moses 4872 the servant 5650 of the LORD 3068 commanded 6680 you, and have listened 8085 to my voice 6963 in all 3605 that I commanded 6680 you.

 22:3 “You have not forsaken 5800a your brothers 251 these 2088 many 7227a days 3117 to this 2088 day 3117, but have kept 8104 the charge 4931 of the commandment 4687 of the LORD 3068 your God 430.

 22:4 “And now 6258 the LORD 3068 your God 430 has given 5117 rest 5117 to your brothers 251, as He spoke 1696 to them; therefore turn 6437 now 6258 and go 1980 to your tents 168, to the land 776 of your possession 272, which 834 Moses 4872 the servant 5650 of the LORD 3068 gave 5414 you beyond 5676 the Jordan 3383.

 22:5 “Only 7534 be very 3966 careful 8104 to observe 6213a the commandment 4687 and the law 8451 which 834 Moses 4872 the servant 5650 of the LORD 3068 commanded 6680 you, to love 157 the LORD 3068 your God 430 and walk 1980 in all 3605 His ways 1870 and keep 8104 His commandments 4687 and hold 1692 fast 1692 to Him and serve 5647 Him with all 3605 your heart 3824 and with all 3605 your soul 5315.”

 22:6 So Joshua 3091 blessed 1288 them and sent 7971 them away 7971, and they went 1980 to their tents 168.

 22:7 ¶ Now to the one half-tribe 2677 7626 of Manasseh 4519 Moses 4872 had given 5414 [a possession] in Bashan 1316, but to the other half 2677 Joshua 3091 gave 5414 [a possession] among 5973 their brothers 251 westward 3220 beyond 5676 the Jordan 3383. So when 3588 Joshua 3091 sent 7971 them away 7971 to their tents 168, he blessed 1288 them,

 22:8 and said 559 to them, “Return 7725 to your tents 168 with great 7227a riches 5233 and with very 3966 much 7227a livestock 4735, with silver 3701, gold 2091, bronze 5178, iron 1270, and with very 3966 many 7235a clothes 8008; divide 2505a the spoil 7998 of your enemies 340 with your brothers 251.”

 22:9 The sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 and the half-tribe 2677 7626 of Manasseh 4519 returned 7725 [home] and departed 1980 from the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 at Shiloh 7887 which 834 is in the land 776 of Canaan 3667a, to go 1980 to the land 776 of Gilead 1568, to the land 776 of their possession 272 which 834 they had possessed 270, according 5921 to the command 6310 of the LORD 3068 through 3027 Moses 4872.

 22:10 ¶ When they came 935 to the region 1552 of the Jordan 3383 which 834 is in the land 776 of Canaan 3667a, the sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 and the half-tribe 2677 7626 of Manasseh 4519 built 1129 an altar 4196 there 8033 by the Jordan 3383, a large 1419 altar 4196 in appearance 4758.

 22:11 And the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 heard 8085 [it] said 559, “Behold 2009, the sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 and the half-tribe 2677 7626 of Manasseh 4519 have built 1129 an altar 4196 at the frontier 4136 of the land 776 of Canaan 3667a, in the region 1552 of the Jordan 3383, on the side 5676 [belonging to] the sons 1121 of Israel 3478.”

 22:12 When the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 heard 8085 [of it], the whole 3605 congregation 5712 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 gathered 6950 themselves at Shiloh 7887 to go 5927 up against 5921 them in war 6635.

 22:13 ¶ Then the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 sent 7971 to the sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and to the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 and to the half-tribe 2677 7626 of Manasseh 4519, into the land 776 of Gilead 1568, Phinehas 6372 the son 1121 of Eleazar 499 the priest 3548,

 22:14 and with him ten 6235 chiefs 5387a, one 259 chief 5387a for each father’s 1 household 1004 from each 3605 of the tribes 4294 of Israel 3478; and each 376 one 376 of them [was] the head 7218 of his father’s 1 household 1004 among the thousands 505 of Israel 3478.

 22:15 They came 935 to the sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and to the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 and to the half-tribe 2677 7626 of Manasseh 4519, to the land 776 of Gilead 1568, and they spoke 1696 with them saying 559,

 22:16 “Thus 3541 says 559 the whole 3605 congregation 5712 of the LORD 3068, ‘What 4100 is this 2088 unfaithful 4604 act 4604 which 834 you have committed 4603 against the God 430 of Israel 3478, turning 7725 away 7725 from following 310 the LORD 3068 this day 3117, by building 1129 yourselves an altar 4196, to rebel 4775 against the LORD 3068 this day 3117?

 22:17 ‘Is not the iniquity 5771 of Peor 6465 enough 4592 for us, from which 834 we have not cleansed 2891 ourselves to this 2088 day 3117, although a plague 5063 came 1961 on the congregation 5712 of the LORD 3068,

 22:18 that you must turn 7725 away 7725 this day 3117 from following 310 the LORD 3068? If you rebel 4775 against the LORD 3068 today 3117, He will be angry 7107 with the whole 3605 congregation 5712 of Israel 3478 tomorrow 4279.

 22:19 ‘If 518, however 389, the land 776 of your possession 272 is unclean 2931, then cross 5674a into the land 776 of the possession 272 of the LORD 3068, where 834 8033 the LORD’S 3068 tabernacle 4908 stands 7931, and take 270 possession 270 among 8432 us. Only do not rebel 4775 against the LORD 3068, or rebel 4775 against 854 us by building 1129 an altar 4196 for yourselves, besides 4480 1107 the altar 4196 of the LORD 3068 our God 430.

 22:20 ‘Did not Achan 5912 the son 1121 of Zerah 2226 act 4603 unfaithfully 4604 in the things 2764a under 2764a the ban 2764a, and wrath 7110a fall 1961 on all 3605 the congregation 5712 of Israel 3478? And that man 376 did not perish 1478 alone 259 in his iniquity 5771.’”

 22:21 ¶ Then the sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 and the half-tribe 2677 7626 of Manasseh 4519 answered 6030a and spoke 1696 to the heads 7218 of the families 505 of Israel 3478.

 22:22 “The Mighty 410 One 410, God 430, the LORD 3068, the Mighty 410 One 410, God 430, the LORD 3068! He knows 3045, and may Israel 3478 itself 1931 know 3045. If 518 [it was] in rebellion 4777, or if 518 in an unfaithful 4604 act 4604 against the LORD 3068 do not save 3467 us this 2088 day 3117!

 22:23 “If we have built 1129 us an altar 4196 to turn 7725 away 7725 from following 310 the LORD 3068, or if 518 to offer 5927 a burnt 5930a offering 5930a or grain offering 4503 on it, or if 518 to offer 6213a sacrifices 2077 of peace 8002 offerings 8002 on it, may the LORD 3068 Himself 1931 require 1245 it.

 22:24 “But truly 518 3808 we have done 6213a this 2088 out of concern 1674, for a reason 1697, saying 559, ‘In time 4279 to come 4279 your sons 1121 may say 559 to our sons 1121, “What 4100 have you to do with the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Israel 3478?

 22:25 “For the LORD 3068 has made 5414 the Jordan 3383 a border 1366 between 996 us and you, [you] sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and sons 1121 of Gad 1410; you have 369 no 369 portion 2506 in the LORD 3068.” So your sons 1121 may make our sons 1121 stop 1115 fearing 3372a the LORD 3068.’

 22:26 ¶ “Therefore we said 559, ‘Let us build 6213a 1129 an altar 4196, not for burnt 5930a offering 5930a or for sacrifice 2077;

 22:27 rather 3588 it shall be a witness 5707 between 996 us and you and between 996 our generations 1755 after 310 us, that we are to perform 5647 the service 5656 of the LORD 3068 before 6440 Him with our burnt 5930a offerings 5930a, and with our sacrifices 2077 and with our peace 8002 offerings 8002, so 3808 that your sons 1121 will not say 559 to our sons 1121 in time 4279 to come 4279, “You have 369 no 369 portion 2506 in the LORD 3068.”’

 22:28 “Therefore we said 559, ‘It shall also come 1961 about if 3588 they say 559 [this] to us or to our generations 1755 in time 4279 to come 4279, then we shall say 559, “See 7200 the copy 8403 of the altar 4196 of the LORD 3068 which 834 our fathers 1 made 6213a, not for burnt 5930a offering 5930a or for sacrifice 2077; rather 3588 it is a witness 5707 between 996 us and you.”’

 22:29 “Far 2486 be it from us that we should rebel 4775 against the LORD 3068 and turn 7725 away 7725 from following 310 the LORD 3068 this day 3117, by building 1129 an altar 4196 for burnt 5930a offering 5930a, for grain offering 4503 or for sacrifice 2077, besides 4480 905 the altar 4196 of the LORD 3068 our God 430 which 834 is before 6440 His tabernacle 4908.”

 22:30 ¶ So when Phinehas 6372 the priest 3548 and the leaders 5387a of the congregation 5712, even the heads 7218 of the families 505 of Israel 3478 who 834 [were] with him, heard 8085 the words 1697 which 834 the sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 and the sons 1121 of Manasseh 4519 spoke 1696, it pleased 3190 5869 them.

 22:31 And Phinehas 6372 the son 1121 of Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 said 559 to the sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and to the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 and to the sons 1121 of Manasseh 4519, “Today 3117 we know 3045 that the LORD 3068 is in our midst 8432, because 834 you have not committed 4603 this 2088 unfaithful 4604 act 4604 against the LORD 3068; now 227 you have delivered 5337 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 from the hand 3027 of the LORD 3068.”

 22:32 ¶ Then Phinehas 6372 the son 1121 of Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 and the leaders 5387a returned 7725 from the sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and from the sons 1121 of Gad 1410, from the land 776 of Gilead 1568 to the land 776 of Canaan 3667a, to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, and brought 7725 back 7725 word 1697 to them.

 22:33 The word 1697 pleased 3190 5869 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, and the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 blessed 1288 God 430; and they did not speak 559 of going 5927 up against 5921 them in war 6635 to destroy 7843 the land 776 in which 834 the sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 were living 3427.

 22:34 The sons 1121 of Reuben 7205 and the sons 1121 of Gad 1410 called 7121 the altar 4196 [Witness]; “For,” [they said], “it is a witness 5707 between 996 us that the LORD 3068 is God 430.”
