Luke 11

1 Christ teacheth to pray, and that instantly: 11 assuring that God so will give us good things. 14 He casting out a dumb devil, rebuketh the blasphemous Pharisees: 28 and sheweth who are blessed: 29 preacheth to the people: 37 and reprehendeth the outward shew of holiness in the Pharisees, scribes, and lawyers.

 11:1 It happened 1096 that while 1722 Jesus was praying 4336 in a certain 5100 place 5117, after 5613 He had finished 3973, one 5100 of His disciples 3101 said 3004 to Him, “Lord 2962, teach 1321 us to pray 4336 just 2531a as John 2491 also 2532 taught 1321 his disciples 3101.”

 11:2 And He said 3004 to them, “When 3752 you pray 4336, say 3004: ‘Father 3962, hallowed 37 be Your name 3686. Your kingdom 932 come 2064.

 11:3 ‘Give 1325 us each 2596 day 2250 our daily 1967 bread 740.

 11:4 ‘And forgive 863 us our sins 266, For we ourselves 846 also 2532 forgive 863 everyone 3956 who is indebted 3784 to us. And lead 1533 us not into temptation 3986.’”

 11:5 ¶ Then 2532 He said 3004 to them, “Suppose 5101 one 5101 of you has 2192 a friend 5384, and goes 4198 to him at midnight 3317 and says 3004 to him, ‘Friend 5384, lend 5531 me three 5140 loaves 740;

 11:6 for a friend 5384 of mine 1473 has come 3854 to me from a journey 3598, and I have 2192 nothing 3756 to set 3908 before 3908 him’;

 11:7 and from inside 2081 he answers 611 and says 3004, ‘Do not bother 2873 3930 me; the door 2374 has already 2235 been shut 2808 and my children 3813 and I are in bed 2845; I cannot 1410 3756 get 450 up and give 1325 you [anything].’

 11:8 “I tell 3004 you, even 2532 though 1487 he will not get 450 up and give 1325 him [anything] because 1223 he is his friend 5384, yet 1065 because 1223 of his persistence 335 he will get 1453 up and give 1325 him as much 3745 as he needs 5535.

 11:9 ¶ “So 2532 I say 3004 to you, ask 154, and it will be given 1325 to you; seek 2212, and you will find 2147; knock 2925, and it will be opened 455 to you.

 11:10 “For everyone 3956 who asks 154, receives 2983; and he who seeks 2212, finds 2147; and to him who knocks 2925, it will be opened 455.

 11:11 “Now 1161 suppose 5101 one 5101 of you fathers 3962 is asked 154 by his son 5207 for a fish 2486; he will not give 1929 him a snake 3789 instead 473 of a fish 2486, will he?

 11:12 “Or 2228 [if] he is asked 154 for an egg 5609, he will not give 1929 him a scorpion 4651, will he?

 11:13 “If 1487 you then 3767, being 5225 evil 4190, know 3609a how 3609a to give 1325 good 18 gifts 1390 to your children 5043, how 4214 much 4214 more 3123 will [your] heavenly 1537 3772 Father 3962 give 1325 the Holy 40 Spirit 4151 to those 3588 who ask 154 Him?”

 11:14 ¶ And He was casting 1544b out a demon 1140, and it was mute 2974; when the demon 1140 had gone 1831 out, the mute 2974 man 2974 spoke 2980; and the crowds 3793 were amazed 2296.

 11:15 But some 5100 of them said 3004, “He casts 1544b out demons 1140 by Beelzebul 954, the ruler 758 of the demons 1140.”

 11:16 Others 2087, to test 3985 [Him], were demanding 2212 of Him a sign 4592 from heaven 3772.

 11:17 But He knew 3609a their thoughts 1270 and said 3004 to them, “Any 3956 kingdom 932 divided 1266 against 1909 itself 1438 is laid 2049 waste 2049; and a house 3624 [divided] against 1909 itself 3624 falls 4098.

 11:18 “If 1487 Satan 4567 also 2532 is divided 1266 against 1909 himself 1438, how 4459 will his kingdom 932 stand 2476? For you say 3004 that I cast 1544b out demons 1140 by Beelzebul 954.

 11:19 “And if 1487 I by Beelzebul 954 cast 1544b out demons 1140, by whom 5101 do your sons 5207 cast 1544b them out? So 1223 3778 they will be your judges 2923.

 11:20 “But if 1487 I cast 1544b out demons 1140 by the finger 1147 of God 2316, then 686 the kingdom 932 of God 2316 has come 5348 upon you.

 11:21 “When 3752 a strong 2478 [man], fully 2528 armed 2528, guards 5442 his own 1438 house 833, his possessions 5225 are undisturbed 1722 1515.

 11:22 “But when 1875 someone stronger 2478 than he attacks 1904 him and overpowers 3528 him, he takes 142 away 142 from him all 3833 his armor 3833 on which 3739 he had relied 3982 and distributes 1239 his plunder 4661.

 11:23 “He who is not with Me is against 2596 Me; and he who does not gather 4863 with Me, scatters 4650.

 11:24 ¶ “When 3752 the unclean 169 spirit 4151 goes 1831 out of a man 444, it passes 1330 through 1223 waterless 504 places 5117 seeking 2212 rest 372, and not finding 2147 any, it says 3004, ‘I will return 5290 to my house 3624 from which 3606 I came 1831.’

 11:25 “And when it comes 2064, it finds 2147 it swept 4563 and put 2885 in order 2885.

 11:26 “Then 5119 it goes 4198 and takes 3880 [along] seven 2033 other 2087 spirits 4151 more 4190 evil 4190 than itself 1438, and they go 1525 in and live 2730 there 1563; and the last 2078 state of that man 444 becomes 1096 worse 5501 than the first 4413.”

 11:27 ¶ While 1722 Jesus was saying 3004 these 3778 things 3778, one 5100 of the women 1135 in the crowd 3793 raised 1869 her voice 5456 and said 3004 to Him, “Blessed 3107 is the womb 2836 that bore 941 You and the breasts 3149 at which 3739 You nursed 2337.”

 11:28 But He said 3004, “On the contrary 3303a 3767, blessed 3107 are those 3588 who hear 191 the word 3056 of God 2316 and observe 5442 it.”

 11:29 ¶ As the crowds 3793 were increasing 1865, He began 757 to say 3004, “This 3778 generation 1074 is a wicked 4190 generation 1074; it seeks 2212 for a sign 4592, and [yet] no 3756 sign 4592 will be given 1325 to it but the sign 4592 of Jonah 2495.

 11:30 “For just 2531a as Jonah 2495 became 1096 a sign 4592 to the Ninevites 3536, so 3779 will the Son 5207 of Man 444 be to this 3778 generation 1074.

 11:31 “The Queen 938 of the South 3558 will rise 1453 up with the men 435 of this 3778 generation 1074 at the judgment 2920 and condemn 2632 them, because 3754 she came 2064 from the ends 4009 of the earth 1093 to hear 191 the wisdom 4678 of Solomon 4672; and behold 2400, something 4183 greater 4183 than Solomon 4672 is here 5602.

 11:32 “The men 435 of Nineveh 3536 will stand 450 up with this 3778 generation 1074 at the judgment 2920 and condemn 2632 it, because 3754 they repented 3340 at the preaching 2782 of Jonah 2495; and behold 2400, something 4183 greater 4183 than Jonah 2495 is here 5602.

 11:33 ¶ “No 3762 one 3762, after lighting 681 a lamp 3088, puts 5087 it away 5087 in a cellar 2926 nor 3761 under 5259 a basket 3426, but on the lampstand 3087, so 2443 that those 3588 who enter 1531 may see 991 the light 5338.

 11:34 “The eye 3788 is the lamp 3088 of your body 4983; when 3752 your eye 3788 is clear 573, your whole 3650 body 4983 also 2532 is full 5460 of light 5460; but when 1875 it is bad 4190, your body 4983 also 2532 is full 4652 of darkness 4652.

 11:35 “Then 3767 watch 4648 out that the light 5457 in you is not darkness 4655.

 11:36 “If 1487 therefore 3767 your whole 3650 body 4983 is full 5460 of light 5460, with no 3361 5100 dark 4652 part 3313 in it, it will be wholly 3650 illumined 5460, as when 3752 the lamp 3088 illumines 5461 you with its rays 796.”

 11:37 ¶ Now 1161 when 1722 He had spoken 2980, a Pharisee 5330 *asked 2065 Him to have 709 lunch 709 with him; and He went 1525 in, and reclined 377 [at the table].

 11:38 When the Pharisee 5330 saw 3708 it, he was surprised 2296 that He had not first 4413 ceremonially 907 washed 907 before 4253 the meal 712.

 11:39 But the Lord 2962 said 3004 to him, “Now 3568 you Pharisees 5330 clean 2511 the outside 1855 of the cup 4221 and of the platter 4094; but inside 2081 of you, you are full 1073 of robbery 724 and wickedness 4189.

 11:40 “You foolish 878 ones 878, did not He who made 4160 the outside 1855 make 4160 the inside 2081 also 2532?

 11:41 “But give 1325 that which is within 1751 as charity 1654, and then 2400 all 3956 things 3956 are clean 2513 for you.

 11:42 ¶ “But woe 3759 to you Pharisees 5330! For you pay 586b tithe 586b of mint 2238 and rue 4076 and every 3956 [kind of] garden 3001 herb 3001, and [yet] disregard 3928 justice 2920 and the love 26 of God 2316; but these 3778 are the things 3778 you should 1163 have done 4160 without 3361 neglecting 3935 the others 2548.

 11:43 “Woe 3759 to you Pharisees 5330! For you love 25 the chief 4410 seats 4410 in the synagogues 4864 and the respectful greetings 783 in the market 58 places 58.

 11:44 “Woe 3759 to you! For you are like 5613 concealed 82 tombs 3419, and the people 444 who walk 4043 over 1883 [them] are unaware 3756 3609a [of it].”

 11:45 ¶ One 5100 of the lawyers 3544 *said 3004 to Him in reply 611, “Teacher 1320, when You say 3004 this 3778, You insult 5195 us too 2532.”

 11:46 But He said 3004, “Woe 3759 to you lawyers 3544 as well 2532! For you weigh 5412 men 444 down 5412 with burdens 5413 hard 1419 to bear 1419, while 2532 you yourselves 846 will not even touch 4379 the burdens 5413 with one 1520 of your fingers 1147.

 11:47 “Woe 3759 to you! For you build 3618 the tombs 3419 of the prophets 4396, and [it was] your fathers 3962 [who] killed 615 them.

 11:48 “So 686 you are witnesses 3144 and approve 4909 the deeds 2041 of your fathers 3962; because 3754 it was they who killed 615 them, and you build 3618 [their tombs].

 11:49 “For this 3778 reason 1223 also 2532 the wisdom 4678 of God 2316 said 3004, ‘I will send 649 to them prophets 4396 and apostles 652, and [some] of them they will kill 615 and [some] they will persecute 1377,

 11:50 so 2443 that the blood 129 of all 3956 the prophets 4396, shed 1632b since 575 the foundation 2602 of the world 2889, may be charged 1567a against 575 this 3778 generation 1074,

 11:51 from the blood 129 of Abel 6 to the blood 129 of Zechariah 2197, who was killed 622 between 3342 the altar 2379 and the house 3624 [of God]; yes 3483a, I tell 3004 you, it shall be charged 1567a against 575 this 3778 generation 1074.’

 11:52 “Woe 3759 to you lawyers 3544! For you have taken 142 away 142 the key 2807 of knowledge 1108; you yourselves 846 did not enter 1525, and you hindered 2967 those 3588 who were entering 1525.”

 11:53 ¶ When He left 1831 there 2547, the scribes 1122 and the Pharisees 5330 began 757 to be very 1171 hostile 1758 and to question 653 Him closely 653 on many 4183 subjects 4183,

 11:54 plotting 1748 against 1748 Him to catch 2340 [Him] in something 5100 He might say 1537 4750.
