Luke 2

1 Augustus taxeth all the Roman empire. 6 The nativity of Christ. 8 One angel relateth it to the shepherds: 13 many sing praises to God for it. 21 Christ is circumcised. 22 Mary purified. 28 Simeon and Anna prophesy of Christ: 40 who increaseth in wisdom, 46 questioneth in the Temple with the doctors, 51 and is obedient to his parents.

 2:1 Now 1161 in those 1565 days 2250 a decree 1378 went 1831 out from Caesar 2541 Augustus 828, that a census 583 be taken 583 of all 3956 the inhabited 3625 earth 3625.

 2:2 This 3778 was the first 4413 census 582 taken 1096 while Quirinius 2958 was governor 2230 of Syria 4947.

 2:3 And everyone 3956 was on his way 4198 to register 583 for the census 583, each 1538 to his own 1438 city 4172.

 2:4 Joseph 2501 also 2532 went 305 up from Galilee 1056, from the city 4172 of Nazareth 3478, to Judea 2453, to the city 4172 of David 1160b which 3748 is called 2564 Bethlehem 965, because 1223 he was of the house 3624 and family 3965 of David 1160b,

 2:5 in order to register 583 along 4862 with Mary 3137, who was engaged 3423 to him, and was with child 1471.

 2:6 While 1722 they were there 1563, the days 2250 were completed 4092a for her to give 5088 birth 5088.

 2:7 And she gave 5088 birth 5088 to her firstborn 4416a son 5207; and she wrapped 4683 Him in cloths 4683, and laid 347 Him in a manger 5336, because 1360 there was no 3756 room 5117 for them in the inn 2646.

 2:8 ¶ In the same 846 region 5561 there were [some] shepherds 4166 staying 63 out in the fields 63 and keeping 5442 watch 5438 over 1909 their flock 4167 by night 3571.

 2:9 And an angel 32a of the Lord 2962 suddenly stood 2186 before 2186 them, and the glory 1391 of the Lord 2962 shone 4034 around 4034 them; and they were terribly 3173 frightened 5399.

 2:10 But the angel 32a said 3004 to them, “Do not be afraid 5399; for behold 2400, I bring 2097 you good 2097 news 2097 of great 3173 joy 5479 which 3748 will be for all 3956 the people 2992;

 2:11 for today 4594 in the city 4172 of David 1160b there has been born 5088 for you a Savior 4990, who 3739 is Christ 5547 the Lord 2962.

 2:12 “This 3778 [will be] a sign 4592 for you: you will find 2147 a baby 1025 wrapped 4683 in cloths 4683 and lying 2749 in a manger 5336.”

 2:13 And suddenly 1810 there appeared 1096 with the angel 32a a multitude 4128 of the heavenly 3770 host 4756 praising 134 God 2316 and saying 3004,

 2:14 “Glory 1391 to God 2316 in the highest 5310, And on earth 1093 peace 1515 among 1722 men 444 with whom He is pleased 2107.”

 2:15 ¶ When 5613 the angels 32a had gone 565 away 565 from them into heaven 3772, the shepherds 4166 [began] saying 2980 to one 240 another 240, “Let us go 1330 straight 1330 to Bethlehem 965 then 1211, and see 3708 this 3778 thing 4487 that has happened 1096 which 3739 the Lord 2962 has made 1107 known 1107 to us.”

 2:16 So 2532 they came 2064 in a hurry 4692 and found 429 their way 429 to Mary 3137 and Joseph 2501, and the baby 1025 as He lay 2749 in the manger 5336.

 2:17 When they had seen 3708 this, they made 1107 known 1107 the statement 4487 which had been told 2980 them about 4012 this 3778 Child 3813.

 2:18 And all 3956 who heard 191 it wondered 2296 at the things which were told 2980 them by the shepherds 4166.

 2:19 But Mary 3137 treasured 4933 all 3956 these 3778 things 4487, pondering 4820 them in her heart 2588.

 2:20 The shepherds 4166 went 5290 back 5290, glorifying 1392 and praising 134 God 2316 for all 3956 that they had heard 191 and seen 3708, just 2531a as had been told 2980 them.

 2:21 ¶ And when 3753 eight 3638 days 2250 had passed 4092a, before His circumcision 4059, His name 3686 was [then] called 2564 Jesus 2424, the name 2564 given 2564 by the angel 32a before 4253 He was conceived 4815 in the womb 2836.

 2:22 ¶ And when 3753 the days 2250 for their purification 2512 according 2596 to the law 3551 of Moses 3475 were completed 4092a, they brought 321 Him up to Jerusalem 2414 to present 3936 Him to the Lord 2962

 2:23 (as it is written 1125 in the Law 3551 of the Lord 2962, “EVERY 3956 [firstborn] MALE 733b THAT OPENS 1272 THE WOMB 3388 SHALL BE CALLED 2564 HOLY 40 TO THE LORD 2962”),

 2:24 and to offer 1325 a sacrifice 2378 according 2596 to what was said 3004 in the Law 3551 of the Lord 2962, “A PAIR 2201 OF TURTLEDOVES 5167 OR 2228 TWO 1417 YOUNG 3556b PIGEONS 4058.”

 2:25 ¶ And there was a man 444 in Jerusalem 2419 whose 3739 name 3686 was Simeon 4826; and this 3778 man 444 was righteous 1342 and devout 2126, looking 4327 for the consolation 3874 of Israel 2474; and the Holy 40 Spirit 4151 was upon him.

 2:26 And it had been 1510 revealed 5537 to him by the Holy 40 Spirit 4151 that he would not see 3708 death 2288 before 4250 he had seen 3708 the Lord’s 2962 Christ 5547.

 2:27 And he came 2064 in the Spirit 4151 into the temple 2413; and when 1722 the parents 1118 brought 1521 in the child 3813 Jesus 2424, to carry 4160 out for Him the custom 1480 of the Law 3551,

 2:28 then 2532 he took 1209 Him into his arms 43, and blessed 2127 God 2316, and said 3004,

 2:29 “Now 3568 Lord 1203, You are releasing 630 Your bond-servant 1401 to depart 630 in peace 1515, According 2596 to Your word 4487;

 2:30 For my eyes 3788 have seen 3708 Your salvation 4992,

 2:31 Which 3739 You have prepared 2090 in the presence 4383 of all 3956 peoples 2992,

 2:32 A LIGHT 5457 OF REVELATION 602 TO THE GENTILES 1484, And the glory 1391 of Your people 2992 Israel 2474.”

 2:33 ¶ And His father 3962 and mother 3384 were amazed 2296 at the things which were being said 2980 about 4012 Him.

 2:34 And Simeon 4826 blessed 2127 them and said 3004 to Mary 3137 His mother 3384, “Behold 2400, this 3778 [Child] is appointed 2749 for the fall 4431 and rise 386 of many 4183 in Israel 2474, and for a sign 4592 to be opposed 483—

 2:35 and a sword 4501b will pierce 1330 even 2532 your own 846 soul 5590—to the end 3704 that thoughts 1261 from many 4183 hearts 2588 may be revealed 601.”

 2:36 ¶ And there was a prophetess 4398, Anna 451 the daughter 2364 of Phanuel 5323, of the tribe 5443 of Asher 768. She was advanced 4260 in years 2250 and had lived 2198 with [her] husband 435 seven 2033 years 2250 after 575 her marriage 3932,

 2:37 and then as a widow 5503 to the age 2094 of eighty-four 3589 5064. She never 3756 left 868 the temple 2413, serving 3000 night 3571 and day 2250 with fastings 3521 and prayers 1162.

 2:38 At that very 846 moment 5610 she came 2186 up and [began] giving 437 thanks 437 to God 2316, and continued to speak 2980 of Him to all 3956 those 3588 who were looking 4327 for the redemption 3085 of Jerusalem 2419.

 2:39 ¶ When 5613 they had performed 5055 everything 3956 according 2596 to the Law 3551 of the Lord 2962, they returned 1994 to Galilee 1056, to their own 1438 city 4172 of Nazareth 3478.

 2:40 The Child 3813 continued to grow 837 and become 2901 strong 2901, increasing 4137 in wisdom 4678; and the grace 5485 of God 2316 was upon Him.

 2:41 ¶ Now His parents 1118 went 4198 to Jerusalem 2419 every 2596 year 2094 at the Feast 1859 of the Passover 3957.

 2:42 And when 3753 He became 1096 twelve 1427, they went 305 up [there] according 2596 to the custom 1485 of the Feast 1859;

 2:43 and as they were returning 5290, after spending 5048 the full 5048 number 5048 of days 2250, the boy 3816 Jesus 2424 stayed 5278 behind 5278 in Jerusalem 2419. But His parents 1118 were unaware 3756 1097 of it,

 2:44 but supposed 3543 Him to be in the caravan 4923, and went 2064 a day’s 2250 journey 3598; and they [began] looking 327 for Him among 1722 their relatives 4773a and acquaintances 1110.

 2:45 When they did not find 2147 Him, they returned 5290 to Jerusalem 2419 looking 327 for Him.

 2:46 Then 2532, after 3326 three 5140 days 2250 they found 2147 Him in the temple 2413, sitting 2516 in the midst 3319 of the teachers 1320, both 2532 listening 191 to them and asking 1905 them questions 1905.

 2:47 And all 3956 who heard 191 Him were amazed 1839 at His understanding 4907 and His answers 612.

 2:48 When they saw 3708 Him, they were astonished 1605; and His mother 3384 said 3004 to Him, “Son 5043, why 5101 have You treated 4160 us this 3779 way 3779? Behold 2400, Your father 3962 and I have been anxiously 3600 looking 2212 for You.”

 2:49 And He said 3004 to them, “Why 5101 is it that you were looking 2212 for Me? Did you not know 3609a that I had 1163 to be in My Father’s 3962 [house]?”

 2:50 But they did not understand 4920 the statement 4487 which 3739 He had made 2980 to them.

 2:51 And He went 2597 down 2597 with them and came 2064 to Nazareth 3478, and He continued in subjection 5293 to them; and His mother 3384 treasured 1301 all 3956 [these] things 4487 in her heart 2588.

 2:52 ¶ And Jesus 2424 kept increasing 4298 in wisdom 4678 and stature 2244, and in favor 5485 with God 2316 and men 444.
