3 Of the importunate widow. 9 Of the Pharisee and the publican. 15 Children brought to Christ. 18 A ruler that would follow Christ, but is hindered by his riches. 28 The reward of them that leave all for his sake. 31 He foresheweth his death, 35 and restoreth a blind man to his sight.
18:1
Now 1161 He was telling 3004 them a parable 3850b to show that at all 3842 times 3842 they ought 1163 to pray 4336 and not to lose 1457b heart 1457b,
18:2
saying 3004, “In a certain 5100 city 4172 there 1510 was a judge 2923 who did not fear 5399 God 2316 and did not respect 1788 man 444.
18:3
“There was a widow 5503 in that city 4172, and she kept coming 2064 to him, saying 3004, ‘Give 1556 me legal 1556 protection 1556 from my opponent 476.’
18:4
“For a while 5550 he was unwilling 3756 2309; but afterward 3326 3778 he said 3004 to himself 1438, ‘Even 2532 though 1487 I do not fear 5399 God 2316 nor 3761 respect 1788 man 444,
18:5
yet 1065 because 1223 this 3778 widow 5503 bothers 3930 2873 me, I will give 1556 her legal 1556 protection 1556, otherwise 2443 3361 by continually 1519 5056 coming 2064 she will wear 5299 me out.’”
18:6
And the Lord 2962 said 3004, “Hear 191 what 5101 the unrighteous 93 judge 2923 *said 3004;
18:7
now 1161, will not God 2316 bring 4160 about 4160 justice 1557 for His elect 1588 who cry 994 to Him day 2250 and night 3571, and will He delay 3114 long 3114 over 1909 them?
18:8
“I tell 3004 you that He will bring 4160 about 4160 justice 1557 for them quickly 5034. However 4133, when the Son 5207 of Man 444 comes 2064, will He find 2147 faith 4102 on the earth 1093?”
18:9
¶ And He also 2532 told 3004 this 3778 parable 3850b to some 5100 people 5100 who trusted 3982 in themselves 1438 that they were righteous 1342, and viewed 1848 others 3062 with contempt 1848:
18:10
“Two 1417 men 444 went 305 up into the temple 2413 to pray 4336, one 1520 a Pharisee 5330 and the other 2087 a tax 5057 collector 5057.
18:11
“The Pharisee 5330 stood 2476 and was praying 4336 this 3778 to himself 1438: ‘God 2316, I thank 2168 You that I am 1510 not like 5618 other 3062 people 3062: swindlers 727, unjust 94, adulterers 3432, or 2228 even 2532 like 5613 this 3778 tax 5057 collector 5057.
18:12
‘I fast 3522 twice 1364 a week 4521; I pay 586a tithes 586a of all 3956 that I get 2932.’
18:13
“But the tax 5057 collector 5057, standing 2476 some 3113 distance 3113 away 3113, was even 3761 unwilling 3756 2309 to lift 1869 up his eyes 3788 to heaven 3772, but was beating 5180 his breast 4738, saying 3004, ‘God 2316, be merciful 2433 to me, the sinner 268!’
18:14
“I tell 3004 you, this 3778 man 3778 went 2597 to his house 3624 justified 1344 rather 3844 than 3844 the other 1565; for everyone 3956 who exalts 5312 himself 1438 will be humbled 5013, but he who humbles 5013 himself 1438 will be exalted 5312.”
18:15
¶ And they were bringing 4374 even 2532 their babies 1025 to Him so 2443 that He would touch 681 them, but when the disciples 3101 saw 3708 it, they [began] rebuking 2008 them.
18:16
But Jesus 2424 called 4341 for them, saying 3004, “Permit 863 the children 3813 to come 2064 to Me, and do not hinder 2967 them, for the kingdom 932 of God 2316 belongs 1510 to such 5108 as these 5108.
18:17
“Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, whoever 3739 302 does not receive 1209 the kingdom 932 of God 2316 like 5613 a child 3813 will not enter 1525 it [at all].”
18:18
¶ A ruler 758 questioned 1905 Him, saying 3004, “Good 18 Teacher 1320, what 5101 shall I do 4160 to inherit 2816 eternal 166 life 2222?”
18:19
And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, “Why 5101 do you call 3004 Me good 18? No 3762 one 3762 is good 18 except 1508 God 2316 alone 1520.
18:20
“You know 3609a the commandments 1785, ‘DO NOT COMMIT 3431 ADULTERY 3431, DO NOT MURDER 5407, DO NOT STEAL 2813, DO NOT BEAR 5576 FALSE 5576 WITNESS 5576, HONOR 5091 YOUR FATHER 3962 AND MOTHER 3384.’”
18:21
And he said 3004, “All 3956 these 3778 things 3778 I have kept 5442 from [my] youth 3503.”
18:22
When Jesus 2424 heard 191 [this], He said 3004 to him, “One 1520 thing 1520 you still 2089 lack 3007; sell 4453 all 3956 that you possess 2192 and distribute 1239 it to the poor 4434, and you shall have 2192 treasure 2344 in heaven 3772; and come 1204, follow 190 Me.”
18:23
But when he had heard 191 these 3778 things 3778, he became 1096 very 4036 sad 4036, for he was extremely 4970 rich 4145.
18:24
And Jesus 2424 looked 3708 at him and said 3004, “How 4459 hard 1423 it is for those 3588 who are wealthy 5536 to enter 1531 the kingdom 932 of God 2316!
18:25
“For it is easier 2123 for a camel 2574 to go 1525 through 1223 the eye 5144a of a needle 956a than 2228 for a rich 4145 man 4145 to enter 1525 the kingdom 932 of God 2316.”
18:26
They who heard 191 it said 3004, “Then 2532 who 5101 can 1410 be saved 4982?”
18:27
But He said 3004, “The things 102 that are impossible 102 with people 444 are possible 1415 with God 2316.”
18:28
¶ Peter 4074 said 3004, “Behold 2400, we have left 863 our own 2398 [homes] and followed 190 You.”
18:29
And He said 3004 to them, “Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, there is no 3762 one 3762 who 3739 has left 863 house 3614 or 2228 wife 1135 or 2228 brothers 80 or 2228 parents 1118 or 2228 children 5043, for the sake 1752a of the kingdom 932 of God 2316,
18:30
who 3739 will not receive 2983 many 4179 times 4179 as much 4179 at this 3778 time 2540 and in the age 165 to come 2064, eternal 166 life 2222.”
18:31
¶ Then 2532 He took 3880 the twelve 1427 aside 3880 and said 3004 to them, “Behold 2400, we are going 305 up to Jerusalem 2419, and all 3956 things 3956 which are written 1125 through 1223 the prophets 4396 about the Son 5207 of Man 444 will be accomplished 5055.

“For He will be handed 3860 over to the Gentiles 1484, and will be mocked 1702 and mistreated 5195 and spit 1716 upon,
18:33
and after they have scourged 3146 Him, they will kill 615 Him; and the third 5154 day 2250 He will rise 450 again 450.”
18:34
But the disciples understood 4920 none 3762 of these 3778 things 3778, and [the meaning of] this 3778 statement 4487 was hidden 2928 from them, and they did not comprehend 1097 the things that were said 3004.
18:35
¶ As Jesus was approaching 1448 Jericho 2410a, a blind 5185 man 5185 was sitting 2521 by the road 3598 begging 1871.
18:36
Now 1161 hearing 191 a crowd 3793 going 1279 by, he [began] to inquire 4441 what 5101 this 3778 was.
18:37
They told 518 him that Jesus 2424 of Nazareth 3480 was passing 3928 by.
18:38
And he called 994 out, saying 3004, “Jesus 2424, Son 5207 of David 1160b, have 1653 mercy 1653 on me!”
18:39
Those 3588 who led 4254 the way 4254 were sternly 2008 telling 2008 him to be quiet 4601; but he kept crying 2905 out all 4183 the more 3123, “Son 5207 of David 1160b, have 1653 mercy 1653 on me!”
18:40
And Jesus 2424 stopped 2476 and commanded 2753 that he be brought 71 to Him; and when he came 1448 near 1448, He questioned 1905 him,

“What 5101 do you want 2309 Me to do 4160 for you?” And he said 3004, “Lord 2962, [I want] to regain 308 my sight 308!”
18:42
And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, “Receive 308 your sight 308; your faith 4102 has made 4982 you well 4982.”
18:43
Immediately 3916 he regained 308 his sight 308 and [began] following 190 Him, glorifying 1392 God 2316; and when all 3956 the people 2992 saw 3708 it, they gave 1325 praise 136 to God 2316.
