 1:1 ¶ Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints that are in the whole of Achaia:

 1:1 ¶ Paul,º an apostleº of Jesusº Christº byº the willº of God,º andº Timothyº [our] brother,º unto theº churchº of Godº whichº isºº atº Corinth,º withº allº theº saintsº whichº areºº inº allº Achaia:º

 1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

 1:2 Graceº [be] to youº andº peaceº fromº Godº ourº Father,º andº [from] the Lordº Jesusº Christ.º

 1:3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort;

 1:3 Blessedº [be] God,º evenº the Fatherº of ourº Lordº Jesusº Christ,º theº Fatherº of mercies,º andº the Godº of allº comfort;º

 1:4 who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

 1:4 Whoº comfortethºº usº inº allº ourº tribulation,º thatº weº may be ableºº to comfortºº themº which are inº anyº trouble,º byº theº comfortº wherewithº weººº ourselvesº are comfortedºº ofº God.º

 1:5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound unto us, even so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ.

 1:5 Forº asº theº sufferingsº of Christº aboundºº inº us,º soº ourº consolationº alsoº aboundethºº byº Christ.º

 1:6 But whether we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which worketh in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer:

 1:6 Andº whetherº we be afflicted,ºº [it is] forº yourº consolationº andº salvation,º whichº is effectualºº inº the enduringº of theº sameº sufferingsº whichº weº alsoº suffer:ºº or whetherº we be comforted,ºº [it is] forº yourº consolationº andº salvation.º

 1:7 and our hope for you is stedfast; knowing that, as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also are ye of the comfort.

 1:7 Andº ourº hopeº ofº youº [is] stedfast,º knowing,ºº thatº asº ye areºº partakersº of theº sufferings,º soº [shall ye be] alsoº of theº consolation.º

 1:8 For we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning our affliction which befell [us] in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

 1:8 Forº we wouldºº not,º brethren,º haveºº youº ignorantººº ofº ourº troubleº whichº cameºº to usº inº Asia,º thatº we were pressedºº outºº of measure,ºº aboveº strength,º insomuchº thatº weº despairedºº evenº of life:ºº

 1:9 yea, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead:

 1:9 Butºº weº hadºº theº sentenceº of deathº inº ourselves,º thatººº we shouldººº notºº trustºº inº ourselves,ººº butº inº Godº whichº raisethºº theº dead:º

 1:10 who delivered us out of so great a death, and will deliver: on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us;

 1:10 Whoº deliveredºº usº fromº so greatº a death,º andº doth deliver:ºº inº whomº we trustºº thatº he willººº yetº deliverºº [us];

 1:11 ye also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed upon us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf.

 1:11 Yeº alsoº helping togetherºº by prayerº forº us,º thatº for the giftº [bestowed] uponº usº byº the means ofº manyº personsº thanks may beºº givenºº byº manyº on our behalf.ºº

 1:12 For our glorifying is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

 1:12 Forº ourº rejoicingº isºº this,º theº testimonyº of ourº conscience,º thatº inº simplicityº andº godlyº sincerity,º notº withº fleshlyº wisdom,º butº byº the graceº of God,º we have had our conversationºº inº theº world,º andº more abundantlyº toº you-ward.º

 1:13 For we write no other things unto you, than what ye read or even acknowledge, and I hope ye will acknowledge unto the end:

 1:13 Forº we writeºº noneº other thingsº unto you,º thanºº whatº ye readºº orºº acknowledge;ºº andº I trustººº ye shallº acknowledgeºº evenº toº the end;º

 1:14 as also ye did acknowledge us in part, that we are your glorying, even as ye also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.

 1:14 Asº alsoº ye have acknowledgedºº usº inº part,º thatº we areºº yourº rejoicing,º even asº yeº alsoº [are] oursº inº theº dayº of theº Lordº Jesus.º

 1:15 And in this confidence I was minded to come first unto you, that ye might have a second benefit;

 1:15 Andº in thisº confidenceº I was mindedºº to comeºº untoº youº before,º thatº ye might haveºº a secondº benefit;º

 1:16 and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and of you to be set forward on my journey unto Judaea.

 1:16 Andº to passºº byº youº intoº Macedonia,º andº to comeºº againº out ofº Macedoniaº untoº you,º andº ofº youº to be brought on my wayºº towardº Judaea.º

 1:17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I show fickleness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the yea yea and the nay nay?

 1:17 When Iºº thereforeº wasºº thusº minded,ººº did Iºº useºººº lightness?º orº the things thatº I purpose,ºº do I purposeºº accordingº to the flesh,º thatº withº meº there should beºº yeaº yea,º andº nayº nay?º

 1:18 But as God is faithful, our word toward you is not yea and nay.

 1:18 Butº [as] Godº [is] true,ºº ourº wordº towardº youº wasºº notº yeaº andº nay.ººº

 1:19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, [even] by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him is yea.

 1:19 Forº theº Sonºº of God,º Jesusº Christ,º whoº was preachedºº amongº youº byº us,º [even] byº meº andº Silvanusº andº Timotheus,º wasºº notº yeaº andº nay,ººº butº inº himº wasºº yea.º

 1:20 For how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea: wherefore also through him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us.

 1:20 Forº allº the promisesº of Godº inº himº [are]º yea,º andº inº himºº Amen,º untoº the gloryº of Godº byº us.º

 1:21 Now he that establisheth us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God;

 1:21 Nowº he which stablishethºº usº withº youº inº Christ,º andº hath anointedºº us,º [is] God;º

 1:22 who also sealed us, and gave [us] the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

 1:22 Whoº hathºº alsoº sealedººº us,º andº givenºº theº earnestº of theº Spiritº inº ourº hearts.º

 1:23 But I call God for a witness upon my soul, that to spare you I forbare to come unto Corinth.

 1:23 Moreoverº Iº callºº Godº for a recordº uponº myº soul,º thatº to spareºº youº I cameºº not as yetº untoº Corinth.º

 1:24 Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for in faith ye stand fast.

 1:24 Notº for thatº we have dominion overºº yourº faith,º butº areºº helpersº of yourº joy:º forº by faithº ye stand.ºº
