 12:1 ¶ I must needs glory, though it is not expedient; but I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

 12:1 ¶ It isºº notº expedientººº for meº doubtlessº to glory.ººº I willº comeºº toº visionsº andº revelationsº of the Lord.º

 12:2 I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I know not; or whether out of the body, I know not; God knoweth), such a one caught up even to the third heaven.

 12:2 I knewºº a manº inº Christº aboveºº fourteenº yearsº ago,º (whetherº inº the body,º I cannotº tell;ººº or whetherº outº of theº body,º I cannotº tell:ººº Godº knoweth;)ºº such an oneº caught upºº toº the thirdº heaven.º

 12:3 And I know such a man (whether in the body, or apart from the body, I know not; God knoweth),

 12:3 Andº I knewºº suchº a man,º (whetherº inº the body,º orº outº of theº body,º I cannotº tell:ººº Godº knoweth;)ºº

 12:4 how that he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

 12:4 How thatº he was caught upºº intoº paradise,º andº heardºº unspeakableº words,º whichº it isºº notº lawfulººº for a manº to utter.ºº

 12:5 On behalf of such a one will I glory: but on mine own behalf I will not glory, save in [my] weaknesses.

 12:5 Ofº such an oneº will I glory:ºº yetº ofº myselfº I willºº notº glory,ºº butº inº mineº infirmities.º

 12:6 For if I should desire to glory, I shall not be foolish; for I shall speak the truth: but I forbear, lest any man should account of me above that which he seeth me [to be], or heareth from me.

 12:6 Forº thoughº I would desireºº to glory,ºº I shallºº notº beºº a fool;º forº I will sayºº the truth:º butº [now] I forbear,ºº lestº any manº should thinkºº ofº meº aboveº thatº whichº he seethºº meº [to be], orº [that] he hearethººº ofºº me.º

 12:7 And by reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted overmuch, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, that I should not be exalted overmuch.

 12:7 Andº lestº I should be exalted above measureºº through theº abundanceº of theº revelations,º there was givenºº to meº a thornº in theº flesh,º the messengerº of Satanº toº buffetºº me,º lestº I should be exalted above measure.ºº

 12:8 Concerning this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

 12:8 Forº this thingº I besoughtºº theº Lordº thrice,º thatº it might departºº fromº me.º

 12:9 And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for [my] power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

 12:9 Andº he saidºº unto me,º Myº graceº is sufficientºº for thee:º forº myº strengthº is made perfectºº inº weakness.º Most gladlyºº thereforeº will Iºº ratherº gloryºº inº myº infirmities,º thatº theº powerº of Christº may restºº uponº me.º

 12:10 Wherefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

 12:10 Thereforeº I take pleasureºº inº infirmities,º inº reproaches,º inº necessities,º inº persecutions,º inº distressesº forºº Christ'sº sake:ºº forº whenº I am weak,ºº thenº amºº I strong.º

 12:11 I am become foolish: ye compelled me; for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing was I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I am nothing.

 12:11 I am becomeºº a foolº in glorying;ºº yeº have compelledºº me:º forº Iº oughtºº to have been commendedºº ofº you:º forº in nothingº am I behindºº theº very chiefestºº apostles,ºº thoughº I beºº nothing.º

 12:12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, by signs and wonders and mighty works.

 12:12 Trulyº theº signsº of an apostleº were wroughtºº amongº youº inº allº patience,º inº signs,º andº wonders,º andº mighty deeds.º

 12:13 For what is there wherein ye were made inferior to the rest of the churches, except [it be] that I myself was not a burden to you? forgive me this wrong.

 12:13 Forº whatº isº itºº whereinº ye were inferiorºº toº otherº churches,º exceptº [it be] thatº Iº myselfº wasºº notº burdensomeººº to you?º forgiveºº meº thisº wrong.º

 12:14 Behold, this is the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be a burden to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

 12:14 Behold,ºº the third timeº I amºº readyº to comeºº toº you;º andº I willºº notº be burdensomeºº to you:º forº I seekºº notº yours,º butº you:º forº theº childrenº oughtºº notº to lay upºº for theº parents,º butº theº parentsº for theº children.º

 12:15 And I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more abundantly, am I loved the less?

 12:15 Andº Iº will very gladlyº spendºº andº be spentºº forº you;ºº thoughº the more abundantlyº I loveºº you,º the lessº I be loved.ºº

 12:16 But be it so, I did not myself burden you; but, being crafty, I caught you with guile.

 12:16 Butº beº it so,ºº Iº didºº notº burdenºº you:º nevertheless,º beingºº crafty,º I caughtºº youº with guile.º

 12:17 Did I take advantage of you by any one of them whom I have sent unto you?

 12:17 Did Iºº make a gainººº of youº byºº anyº of themº whomº I sentºº untoº you?º

 12:18 I exhorted Titus, and I sent the brother with him. Did Titus take any advantage of you? walked we not in the same spirit? [walked we] not in the same steps?

 12:18 I desiredºº Titus,º andº with [him] I sentºº a brother.º Didººº Titusº make a gainºº of you?º walkedº weºº notº in theº sameº spirit?º [walked we] notº in theº sameº steps?º

 12:19 Ye think all this time that we are excusing ourselves unto you. In the sight of God speak we in Christ. But all things, beloved, [are] for your edifying.

 12:19 Again,º thinkº yeºº thatº we excuse ourselvesºº unto you?º we speakºº beforeº Godº inº Christ:º butº [we do] all things,º dearly beloved,º forº yourº edifying.º

 12:20 For I fear, lest by any means, when I come, I should find you not such as I would, and should myself be found of you such as ye would not; lest by any means [there should be] strife, jealousy, wraths, factions, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults;

 12:20 Forº I fear,ºº lest,ºº when I come,ºº I shallºº notº findºº youº suchº asº I would,ºº and [that] Iº shall be foundºº unto youº such asº ye wouldºº not:º lestºº [there be] debates,º envyings,º wraths,º strifes,º backbitings,º whisperings,º swellings,º tumults:º

 12:21 lest again when I come my God should humble me before you, and I should mourn for many of them that have sinned heretofore, and repented not of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they committed.

 12:21 [And] lest,º when I comeºº again,º myº Godº will humbleºº meº amongº you,º andº [that] I shall bewailºº manyº whichº have sinned already,ºº andº haveºº notº repentedºº ofº theº uncleannessº andº fornicationº andº lasciviousnessº whichº they have committed.ºº
