 6:1 ¶ And he went out from thence; and he cometh into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

 6:1 ¶ Andº he went outºº from thence,º andº cameºº intoº his ownºº country;º andº hisº disciplesº followºº him.º

 6:2 And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, Whence hath this man these things? and, What is the wisdom that is given unto this man, and [what mean] such mighty works wrought by his hands?

 6:2 Andº when the sabbath dayº was come,ºº he beganºº to teachºº inº theº synagogue:º andº manyº hearingºº [him] were astonished,ºº saying,ºº From whenceº hath thisº [man] these things?º andº whatº wisdomº [is] this which is givenºº unto him,º thatº evenº suchº mighty worksº are wroughtºº byº hisº hands?º

 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended in him.

 6:3 Isºº notº thisº theº carpenter,º theº sonº of Mary,ºº theº brotherº of James,º andº Joses,º andº of Juda,º andº Simon?º andº areºº notº hisº sistersº hereº withº us?º Andº they were offendedºº atº him.º

 6:4 And Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

 6:4 Butº Jesusº saidºº unto them,ºº A prophetº isºº notº without honour,º butº inº his ownºº country,º andº amongº his own kin,º andº inº his ownºº house.º

 6:5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

 6:5 Andº he couldººº thereº doºº noºº mighty work,º saveº thatº he laidºº his handsº uponºº a fewº sick folk,º and healedºº [them].

 6:6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages teaching.

 6:6 Andº he marvelledºº becauseº of theirº unbelief.º Andº he wentºº round aboutº theº villages,º teaching.ºº

 6:7 ¶ And he calleth unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits;

 6:7 ¶ Andº he calledºº [unto him] theº twelve,º andº beganºº to sendºº themº forthººº by twoº and two;º andº gaveºº themº powerº overº uncleanº spirits;º

 6:8 and he charged them that they should take nothing for [their] journey, save a staff only; no bread, no wallet, no money in their purse;

 6:8 Andº commandedºº themº thatº they should takeºº nothingº forº [their] journey,º saveº a staffº only;º noº scrip,º noº bread,º noº moneyº inº [their] purse:º

 6:9 but [to go] shod with sandals: and, [said he], put not on two coats.

 6:9 Butº [be] shodºº with sandals;º andº notº put onºººº twoº coats.º

 6:10 And he said unto them, Wheresoever ye enter into a house, there abide till ye depart thence.

 6:10 Andº he saidºº unto them,º In what place soeverºº ye enterºº intoº an house,º thereº abideºº tillºº ye departºº from that place.º

 6:11 And whatsoever place shall not receive you, and they hear you not, as ye go forth thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony unto them.

 6:11 Andº whosoeverºº shallºº notº receiveºº you,º norº hearºº you,º when ye departºº thence,º shake offºº theº dustº underº yourº feetº forº a testimonyº against them.º Verilyº I sayºº unto you,º It shall beºº more tolerableº for Sodomº andº Gomorrhaº inº the dayº of judgment,º thanº for thatº city.º

 6:12 And they went out, and preached that [men] should repent.

 6:12 Andº they went out,ºº and preachedºº thatº men should repent.ºº

 6:13 And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

 6:13 Andº they cast outºº manyº devils,º andº anointedºº with oilº manyº that were sick,º andº healedºº [them].

 6:14 And king Herod heard [thereof]; for his name had become known: and he said, John the Baptizer is risen from the dead, and therefore do these powers work in him.

 6:14 Andº kingº Herodº heardºº [of him]; (forº hisº nameº wasºº spread abroad:)ºº andº he said,ºº Thatº Johnº theº Baptistºº was risenºº fromº the dead,º andº thereforeºº mighty worksº do shew forthº themselvesºº inº him.º

 6:15 But others said, It is Elijah. And others said, [It is] a prophet, [even] as one of the prophets.

 6:15 Othersº said,ºº Thatº it isºº Elias.º Andº othersº said,ºº Thatº it isºº a prophet,º orº asº oneº ofº theº prophets.º

 6:16 But Herod, when he heard [thereof], said, John, whom I beheaded, he is risen.

 6:16 Butº when Herodº heardºº [thereof], he said,ºº Itº isºº John,º whomºº Iº beheaded:ºº heº is risenºº fromº the dead.º

 6:17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife; for he had married her.

 6:17 Forº Herodº himselfº had sent forthºº andº laid holdºº uponº John,º andº boundºº himº inº prisonº forºº Herodias'º sake,ºº hisºº brotherº Philip'sº wife:º forº he had marriedºº her.º

 6:18 For John said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

 6:18 Forº Johnº had saidºº unto Herod,ºº It isºº notº lawfulººº for theeº to haveºº thyº brother'sº wife.º

 6:19 And Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him; and she could not;

 6:19 Thereforeº Herodiasº had a quarrelºº againstº him,º andº wouldºº have killedºº him;º butº she couldºº not:º

 6:20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was much perplexed; and he heard him gladly.

 6:20 Forº Herodº fearedºº John,º knowingºº that heº was a justº manº andº an holy,º andº observedºº him;º andº when he heardºº him,º he didºº many things,º andº heardºº himº gladly.º

 6:21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, and the high captains, and the chief men of Galilee;

 6:21 Andº when a convenientº dayº was come,ººº thatº Herodº on hisºº birthdayº madeºº a supperº to hisºº lords,ºº high captains,º andº chiefº [estates] of Galilee;º

 6:22 and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and them that sat at meat with him; and the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

 6:22 Andº when theº daughterº of the saidº Herodiasº came in,ºº andº danced,ºº andº pleasedºº Herodº andº them that sat withº him,ºº theº kingº saidºº unto theº damsel,º Askºº of meº whatsoeverºº thou wilt,ºº andº I will giveºº [it] thee.º

 6:23 And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

 6:23 Andº he swareºº unto her,º Whatsoeverººº thou shalt askºº of me,º I will giveºº [it] thee,º untoº the halfº of myº kingdom.º

 6:24 And she went out, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptizer.

 6:24 Andº sheº went forth,ºº and saidºº unto herºº mother,º Whatº shall I ask?ºº Andº sheº said,ºº Theº headº of Johnº theº Baptist.º

 6:25 And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou forthwith give me on a platter the head of John the Baptist.

 6:25 Andº she came inºº straightwayº withº hasteº untoº theº king,º and asked,ºº saying,ºº I willºº thatº thou giveºº meº by and byº inº a chargerº theº headº of Johnº theº Baptist.º

 6:26 And the king was exceeding sorry; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat, he would not reject her.

 6:26 Andº theº kingº wasºº exceeding sorry;º [yet] forº his oath's sake,ºº andº for their sakes whichº sat withº him,ºº he wouldºº notº rejectºº her.º

 6:27 And straightway the king sent forth a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring his head: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

 6:27 Andº immediatelyº theº kingº sentºº an executioner,º and commandedºº hisº headº to be brought:ºº andº heº wentºº and beheadedºº himº inº theº prison,º

 6:28 and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the damsel; and the damsel gave it to her mother.

 6:28 Andº broughtºº hisº headº inº a charger,º andº gaveºº itº to theº damsel:º andº theº damselº gaveºº itº to herºº mother.º

 6:29 And when his disciples heard [thereof], they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

 6:29 Andº when hisº disciplesº heardºº [of it], they cameºº andº took upºº hisº corpse,º andº laidºº itº inº a tomb.º

 6:30 And the apostles gather themselves together unto Jesus; and they told him all things, whatsoever they had done, and whatsoever they had taught.

 6:30 Andº theº apostlesº gathered themselves togetherºº untoº Jesus,º andº toldºº himº all things,º bothº whatº they had done,ºº andº whatº they had taught.ºº

 6:31 And he saith unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while. For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

 6:31 Andº he saidºº unto them,º Comeºº yeº yourselvesº apartºº intoº a desertº place,º andº restºº a while:º forº there wereºº manyº comingºº andº going,ºº andº they had noºº leisureºº so much asºº to eat.ºº

 6:32 And they went away in the boat to a desert place apart.

 6:32 Andº they departedºº intoº a desertº placeº by shipº privately.ºº

 6:33 And [the people] saw them going, and many knew [them], and they ran together there on foot from all the cities, and outwent them.

 6:33 Andº theº peopleº sawºº themº departing,ºº andº manyº knewºº him,º andº ranºº afootº thitherº out ofº allº cities,º andº outwentºº them,º andº came togetherºº untoº him.º

 6:34 And he came forth and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

 6:34 Andº Jesus,º when he came out,ºº sawºº muchº people,º andº was moved with compassionºº towardº them,º becauseº they wereºº asº sheepº notº havingºº a shepherd:º andº he beganºº to teachºº themº many things.º

 6:35 And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, The place is desert, and the day is now far spent;

 6:35 Andº when the dayº wasºº nowº far spent,ºººº hisº disciplesº cameºº unto him,º and said,ººº This isºº a desertº place,º andº nowº the timeº [is] far passed:ºº

 6:36 send them away, that they may go into the country and villages round about, and buy themselves somewhat to eat.

 6:36 Sendºº themº away,ººº thatº they may goºº intoº theº countryº round about,º andº into the villages,º and buyºº themselvesº bread:º forº they haveºº nothingºº to eat.ºº

 6:37 But he answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred shillings' worth of bread, and give them to eat?

 6:37 º Heº answeredºº andº saidºº unto them,º Giveºº yeº themº to eat.ºº Andºº theyº sayºº unto him,º Shall we goºº and buyºº two hundredº pennyworthº of bread,º andº giveºº themº to eat?ºº

 6:38 And he saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go [and] see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.

 6:38 º Heº saithºº unto them,º How manyº loavesº haveº ye?ºº goºº andº see.ºº Andº when they knew,ºº they say,ºº Five,º andº twoº fishes.º

 6:39 And he commanded them that all should sit down by companies upon the green grass.

 6:39 Andº he commandedºº themº to makeºº allº sit downººº by companiesº uponº theº greenº grass.º

 6:40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

 6:40 Andº they sat downºº in ranks,º byº hundreds,ºº andº byº fifties.ºº

 6:41 And he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake the loaves; and he gave to the disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

 6:41 Andº when he had takenºº theº fiveº loavesº andº theº twoº fishes,º he looked upºº toº heaven,º and blessed,ºº andº brakeºº theº loaves,º andº gaveºº [them] to hisºº disciplesº toº set beforeºº them;º andº theº twoº fishesº dividedº heºº among them all.º

 6:42 And they all ate, and were filled.

 6:42 Andº they didºº allº eat,ºº andº were filled.ºº

 6:43 And they took up broken pieces, twelve basketfuls, and also of the fishes.

 6:43 Andº they took upºº twelveº basketsº fullº of the fragments,º andº ofº theº fishes.º

 6:44 And they that ate the loaves were five thousand men.

 6:44 Andº they that did eatºº of theº loavesº wereºº aboutº five thousandº men.º

 6:45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before [him] unto the other side to Bethsaida, while he himself sendeth the multitude away.

 6:45 Andº straightwayº he constrainedºº hisºº disciplesº to getºº intoº theº ship,º andº to goºº toº the other sideººº beforeººº untoº Bethsaida,º whileº heº sent awayºº theº people.º

 6:46 And after he had taken leave of them, he departed into the mountain to pray.

 6:46 Andº when he had sentºº themº away,ººº he departedºº intoº a mountainº to pray.ºº

 6:47 And when even was come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.

 6:47 Andº when evenº was come,ºº theº shipº wasºº inº the midstº of theº sea,º andº heº aloneº onº theº land.º

 6:48 And seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary unto them, about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking on the sea; and he would have passed by them:

 6:48 Andº he sawºº themº toilingºº inº rowing;ºº forº theº windº wasºº contraryº unto them:º andº aboutº the fourthº watchº of theº nightº he comethºº untoº them,º walkingºº uponº theº sea,º andº wouldºº have passed byºº them.º

 6:49 but they, when they saw him walking on the sea, supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out;

 6:49 Butº when theyº sawºº himº walkingºº uponº theº sea,º they supposedºº it had beenºº a spirit,º andº cried out:ºº

 6:50 for they all saw him, and were troubled. But he straightway spake with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

 6:50 Forº they allº sawºº him,º andº were troubled.ºº Andº immediatelyº he talkedºº withº them,º andº saithºº unto them,º Be of good cheer:ºº it isºº I;º beºº notº afraid.ººº

 6:51 And he went up unto them into the boat; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves;

 6:51 Andº he went upºº untoº themº intoº theº ship;º andº theº windº ceased:ºº andº they were soreº amazedºº inº themselvesº beyondº measure,º andº wondered.ºº

 6:52 for they understood not concerning the loaves, but their heart was hardened.

 6:52 Forº they consideredºº notº [the miracle] ofº theº loaves:º forº theirº heartº wasºº hardened.ºº

 6:53 And when they had crossed over, they came to the land unto Gennesaret, and moored to the shore.

 6:53 Andº when they had passed over,ºº they cameºº intoº theº landº of Gennesaret,º andº drew to the shore.ºº

 6:54 And when they were come out of the boat, straightway [the people] knew him,

 6:54 Andº when theyº were comeºº out ofº theº ship,º straightwayº they knewºº him,º

 6:55 and ran round about that whole region, and began to carry about on their beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.

 6:55 And ran throughºº thatº wholeº region round about,º and beganºº to carry aboutºº inº bedsº those that wereºº sick,ºº whereº they heardºº heº was.ºººº

 6:56 And wheresoever he entered, into villages, or into cities, or into the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.

 6:56 Andº whithersoeverºº he entered,ºº intoº villages,º orº cities,º orº country,º they laidºº theº sickºº inº theº streets,º andº besoughtºº himº thatº they might touchºº ifºº it were butº theº borderº of hisº garment:º andº as manyº asºº touchedºº himº were made whole.ºº
