 1:1 ¶ In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,

 1:1 ¶ In the eighthº month,º in the secondº yearº of Darius,º cameº the wordº of the LORDº untoº Zechariah,º the sonº of Berechiah,º the sonº of Iddoº the prophet,º saying,ºº

 1:2 Jehovah was sore displeased with your fathers.

 1:2 The LORDº hath been soreº displeasedººº withº your fathers.º

 1:3 Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Return unto me, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will return unto you, saith Jehovah of hosts.

 1:3 Therefore sayºº thou untoº them, Thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts;º Turnºº ye untoº me, saithºº the LORDº of hosts,º and I will turnºº untoº you, saithºº the LORDº of hosts.º

 1:4 Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets cried, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Return ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith Jehovah.

 1:4 Beº ye notº as your fathers,º untoº whomº the formerº prophetsº have cried,ºº saying,ºº Thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts;º Turnºº ye nowº from your evilº ways,ºº and [from] your evilº doings:º but they did notº hear,ºº norº hearkenºº untoº me, saithºº the LORD.º

 1:5 Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?

 1:5 Your fathers,º whereº [are] they?º and the prophets,º do they liveºº for ever?º

 1:6 But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? and they turned and said, Like as Jehovah of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.

 1:6 Butº my wordsº and my statutes,º whichº I commandedººº my servantsº the prophets,º did they notº take holdºº of your fathers?º and they returnedºº and said,ºº Like asº the LORDº of hostsº thoughtºº to doºº unto us, according to our ways,º and according to our doings,º soº hath he dealtºº withº us.

 1:7 ¶ Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,

 1:7 ¶ Upon the fourº and twentiethº dayº of the eleventhºº month,º whichº [is] the monthº Sebat,º in the secondº yearº of Darius,º cameº the wordº of the LORDº untoº Zechariah,º the sonº of Berechiah,º the sonº of Iddoº the prophet,º saying,ºº

 1:8 I saw in the night, and, behold, a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him there were horses, red, sorrel, and white.

 1:8 I sawºº by night,º and beholdº a manº ridingºº uponº a redº horse,º and heº stoodºº amongº the myrtle treesº thatº [were] in the bottom;º and behindº him [were there] redº horses,º speckled,º and white.º

 1:9 Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will show thee what these are.

 1:9 Then saidºº I, O my lord,º whatº [are] these?º And the angelº that talkedºº with me saidºº untoº me, Iº will shewºº thee whatº theseº [be].

 1:10 And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said, These are they whom Jehovah hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.

 1:10 And the manº that stoodºº amongº the myrtle treesº answeredºº and said,ºº Theseº [are they] whomº the LORDº hath sentºº to walkºº to and froº through the earth.º

 1:11 And they answered the angel of Jehovah that stood among the myrtle-trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

 1:11 And they answeredººº the angelº of the LORDº that stoodºº amongº the myrtle trees,º and said,ºº We have walked to and froºº through the earth,º and, behold,º allº the earthº sitteth still,ºº and is at rest.ºº

 1:12 ¶ Then the angel of Jehovah answered and said, O Jehovah of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?

 1:12 ¶ Then the angelº of the LORDº answeredºº and said,ºº O LORDº of hosts,º how longºº wilt thouº notº have mercyºº onºº Jerusalemº and on the citiesº of Judah,º against whichº thou hast had indignationºº theseº threescore and tenº years?º

 1:13 And Jehovah answered the angel that talked with me with good words, [even] comfortable words.

 1:13 And the LORDº answeredººº the angelº that talkedºº with me [with] goodº wordsº [and] comfortableº words.º

 1:14 So the angel that talked with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

 1:14 So the angelº that communedºº with me saidºº untoº me, Cryºº thou, saying,ºº Thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts;º I am jealousºº for Jerusalemº and for Zionº with a greatº jealousy.º

 1:15 And I am very sore displeased with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

 1:15 And Iº am veryº soreº displeasedººº withº the heathenº [that are] at ease:º forº Iº was but a littleº displeased,ºº and theyº helpedºº forward the affliction.º

 1:16 Therefore thus saith Jehovah: I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies; my house shall be built in it, saith Jehovah of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth over Jerusalem.

 1:16 Thereforeº thusº saithºº the LORD;º I am returnedºº to Jerusalemº with mercies:º my houseº shall be builtºº in it, saithºº the LORDº of hosts,º and a lineººº shall be stretched forthºº uponº Jerusalem.º

 1:17 Cry yet again, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: My cities shall yet overflow with prosperity; and Jehovah shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.

 1:17 Cryºº yet,º saying,ºº Thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts;º My citiesº through prosperityºº shall yetº be spread abroad;ºº and the LORDº shall yetº comfortººº Zion,º and shall yetº chooseºº Jerusalem.º

 1:18 ¶ And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, four horns.

 1:18 ¶ Then lifted I upººº mine eyes,º and saw,ºº and beholdº fourº horns.º

 1:19 And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.

 1:19 And I saidºº untoº the angelº that talkedºº with me, Whatº [be] these?º And he answeredººº me, Theseº [are] the hornsº whichº have scatteredººº Judah,ºº Israel,º and Jerusalem.º

 1:20 And Jehovah showed me four smiths.

 1:20 And the LORDº shewedºº me fourº carpenters.º

 1:21 Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head; but these are come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.

 1:21 Then saidºº I, Whatº comeºº theseº to do?ºº And he spake,ºº saying,ºº Theseº [are] the hornsº whichº have scatteredººº Judah,º so thatº noº manº did lift upºº his head:º but theseº are comeºº to frayºº them, to cast outººº the hornsº of the Gentiles,º which lifted upºº [their] hornº overº the landº of Judahº to scatterºº it.
