28:1 ¶
Achaz [was] twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Yerushalaim: but he did not [that which was] right in the sight of Yahweh, like Dawid his father: |

For he walked°
in°°
the ways°
of the kings°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
and made°°
also°
molten images°
for
Bæ`älîm
בְּעָלִים.° |

For he walked in the ways of the kings of Yisrael, and made also molten images for Bealim. |

Moreover he°
burnt incense°°
in the valley°
of the son°
of
Hinnöm
הִנֹּם,°
and burnt°°°
his children°
in the fire,°
after the abominations°
of the heathen°
whom°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
had cast out°°
before°°
the children°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.° |

Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom Yahweh had cast out before the children of Yisrael. |

He sacrificed°°
also and burnt incense°°
in the high places,°
and on°
the hills,°
and under°
every°
green°
tree.° |

them captives,°
and brought°°
[them] to
Dammäŝek
דַּמָּשֶׂק.°
And he was also°
delivered°°
into the hand°
of the king°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
who smote°°
him with a great°
slaughter.° |

Wherefore Yahweh his Elohim delivered him into the hand of the king of Aram; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought [them] to Dammaseq. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Yisrael, who smote him with a great slaughter. |

For Peqach the son of Remalyah slew in Yehudah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, [which were] all valiant men; because they had forsaken Yahweh Elohim of their fathers. |

a mighty man°

´Efrayim
אֶפרַיִם,°
slew°°°
Ma`áŝëyà
מַעֲשֵׂיָה°
the king's°
son,°
and
`Azrîkäm
עַזרִיקָם°
the governor°
of the house,°

´Elkänà
אֶלקָנָה°
[that was] next°
to the king.° |

And Zikhri, a mighty man of Efrayim, slew Maaseyah the king's son, and Azriqam the governor of the house, and Elqanah [that was] next to the king. |

carried away captive°°
of their brethren°°
two hundred°
thousand,°
women,°
sons,°
and daughters,°
and took also away°°°
much°
spoil°
from°
them, and brought°°°
the spoil°

שֹׁמרוֹן.° |

And the children of Yisrael carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Shomron. |

But a prophet°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
was°
there,°
whose name°
[was]

עוֹדֵד:°
and he went out°°
before°
the host°
that came°°
to
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹן,°
and said°°
unto them, Behold,°
because
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of your fathers°
was wroth°
with°
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
he hath delivered°°
them into your hand,°
and ye have slain°°
them in a rage°
[that] reacheth up°°
unto°
heaven.° |

But a prophet of Yahweh was there, whose name [was] Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Shomron, and said unto them, Behold, because Yahweh Elohim of your fathers was wroth with Yehudah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage [that] reacheth up unto heaven. |

And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Yehudah and Yerushalaim for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: [but are there] not with you, even with you, sins against Yahweh your Elohim? |

Now°
hear°°
me therefore, and deliver°°
the captives°
again, which°
ye have taken captive°°
of your brethren:°°
for°
the fierce°
wrath°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
[is] upon°
you. |

Then certain of the heads of the children of Efrayim, Azaryah the son of Yochanan, Berekhyah the son of Meshillemoth, and Yechizqiyyah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Chadlay, stood up against them that came from the war, |

unto them, Ye shall not°
bring in°°°
the captives°
hither:°
for whereas°
we have offended°
against°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
[already], ye°
intend°°
to add°°
[more] to°
our sins°
and to°
our trespass:°
for°
our trespass°
is great,°
and [there is] fierce°
wrath°
against°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.° |

And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for whereas we have offended against Yahweh [already], ye intend to add [more] to our sins and to our trespass: for our trespass is great, and [there is] fierce wrath against Yisrael. |

And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Yericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Shomron. |

At that time did king Achaz send unto the kings of Ashshur to help him. |

with the villages°

also and the villages°
thereof: and they dwelt°°

The Pelishtim also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Yehudah, and had taken Beth-Shemesh, and Ayyalon, and Gederoth, and Sokho with the villages thereof, and Timnah with the villages thereof, Gimzo also and the villages thereof: and they dwelt there. |

For Yahweh brought Yehudah low because of Achaz king of Yisrael; for he made Yehudah naked, and transgressed sore against Yahweh. |

unto°
him, and distressed°°
him, but strengthened°°

the house°

but he helped°

For Achaz took away a portion [out] of the house of Yahweh, and [out] of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave [it] unto the king of Ashshur: but he helped him not. |

28:22 ¶
And in the time°
of his distress°°
did he trespass°°
yet more°°
against
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:°
this°
[is that] king°
´Äçäz
אָחָז.° |

28:22 ¶
And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against Yahweh: this [is that] king Achaz. |

For he sacrificed°°
unto the
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of
Dammäŝek
דַּמָּשֶׂק,°
which smote°°
him: and he said,°°
Because°
the
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of the kings°
of
´Áräm
אֲרָם°
help°°
them, [therefore] will I sacrifice°°

were°
the ruin°°
of him, and of all°

For he sacrificed unto the elohim of Dammaseq, which smote him: and he said, Because the elohim of the kings of Aram help them, [therefore] will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Yisrael. |

And Achaz gathered together the vessels of the house of Elohim, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of Elohim, and shut up the doors of the house of Yahweh, and he made him altars in every corner of Yerushalaim. |

he made°°
high places°
to burn incense°°
unto other°
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,°
and provoked to anger°°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°

And in every several city of Yehudah he made high places to burn incense unto other elohim, and provoked to anger Yahweh Elohim of his fathers. |

of the kings°

And Achaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, [even] in Yerushalaim: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Yisrael: and Chizqiyyah his son reigned in his stead. |
