Proverbs 13

1 From this chapter to the five and twentieth are sundry observations of moral virtues, and their contrary vices.

 13:1 A wise 2450 son 1121 [accepts his] father’s 1 discipline 4148, But a scoffer 3917b does not listen 8085 to rebuke 1606.

 13:2 From the fruit 6529 of a man’s 376 mouth 6310 he enjoys 398 good 2896b, But the desire 5315 of the treacherous 898 is violence 2555.

 13:3 The one who guards 5341 his mouth 6310 preserves 8104 his life 5315; The one who opens 6589 wide 6589 his lips 8193 comes to ruin 4288.

 13:4 The soul 5315 of the sluggard 6102 craves 183 and [gets] nothing 369, But the soul 5315 of the diligent 2742a is made 1878 fat 1878.

 13:5 A righteous 6662 man 6662 hates 8130 falsehood 8267, But a wicked 7563 man 7563 acts 887 disgustingly 887 and shamefully 2659.

 13:6 Righteousness 6666 guards 5341 the one whose way 1870 is blameless 8537, But wickedness 7564 subverts 5557 the sinner 2403b.

 13:7 There 3426 is one who pretends 6238 to be rich 6238, but has 369 nothing 369 3605; [Another] pretends 7326 to be poor 7326, but has great 7227a wealth 1952.

 13:8 The ransom 3724a of a man’s 376 life 5315 is his wealth 6239, But the poor 7326 hears 8085 no 3808 rebuke 1606.

 13:9 The light 216 of the righteous 6662 rejoices 8055, But the lamp 5216 of the wicked 7563 goes 1846 out.

 13:10 Through insolence 2087 comes 5414 nothing 7534 but strife 4683, But wisdom 2451 is with those who receive 3289 counsel 3289.

 13:11 Wealth 1952 [obtained] by fraud 1892 dwindles 4591, But the one who gathers 6908 by labor 3027 increases 7235a [it].

 13:12 Hope 8431 deferred 4900 makes 2470a the heart 3820 sick 2470a, But desire 8378 fulfilled 935 is a tree 6086 of life 2425b.

 13:13 The one who despises 936 the word 1697 will be in debt 2254a to it, But the one who fears 3372a the commandment 4687 will be rewarded 7999a.

 13:14 The teaching 8451 of the wise 2450 is a fountain 4726 of life 2425b, To turn 5493 aside 5493 from the snares 4170 of death 4194.

 13:15 Good 2896a understanding 7922 produces 5414 favor 2580, But the way 1870 of the treacherous 898 is hard 386.

 13:16 Every 3605 prudent 6175 man 6175 acts 6213a with knowledge 1847, But a fool 3684 displays 6566 folly 200.

 13:17 A wicked 7563 messenger 4397 falls 5307 into adversity 7451b, But a faithful 529 envoy 6735a [brings] healing 4832.

 13:18 Poverty 7389 and shame 7036 [will come] to him who neglects 6544a discipline 4148, But he who regards 8104 reproof 8433b will be honored 3513.

 13:19 Desire 8378 realized 1961 is sweet 6149 to the soul 5315, But it is an abomination 8441 to fools 3684 to turn 5493 away 5493 from evil 7451b.

 13:20 He who walks 1980 with wise 2450 men 2450 will be wise 2449, But the companion 7462b of fools 3684 will suffer 7489a harm 7489a.

 13:21 Adversity 7463a pursues 7291 sinners 2400, But the righteous 6662 will be rewarded 7999a with prosperity 2896b.

 13:22 A good 2896a man 2896a leaves 5157 an inheritance 5157 to his children’s 1121 children 1121, And the wealth 2428 of the sinner 2398 is stored 6845 up for the righteous 6662.

 13:23 Abundant 7230 food 400 [is in] the fallow 5215b ground 5215b of the poor 7326, But it is swept 5595 away 5595 by injustice 3808 4941.

 13:24 He who withholds 2820 his rod 7626 hates 8130 his son 1121, But he who loves 157 him disciplines 4148 him diligently 7836.

 13:25 The righteous 6662 has 398 enough 398 to satisfy 7648 his appetite 5315, But the stomach 990 of the wicked 7563 is in need 2637.
