 27:1 ¶ And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.

 27:1 ¶ And Davidº saidºº inº his heart,º I shall nowº perishºº oneº dayº by the handº of Saul:º [there is] nothingº betterº for me thanº thatº I should speedilyºº escapeºº intoº the landº of the Philistines;º and Saulº shall despairºº ofº me, to seekºº me any moreº in anyº coastº of Israel:º so shall I escapeºº out of his hand.ºº

 27:2 And David arose, and passed over, he and the six hundred men that were with him, unto Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

 27:2 And Davidº arose,ºº and heº passed overºº with the sixº hundredº menº thatº [were] withº him untoº Achish,º the sonº of Maoch,º kingº of Gath.º

 27:3 And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife.

 27:3 And Davidº dweltºº withº Achishº at Gath,º heº and his men,ºº every manº with his household,º [even] Davidº with his twoº wives,º Ahinoamº the Jezreelitess,º and Abigailº the Carmelitess,ºº Nabal'sº wife.º

 27:4 And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.

 27:4 And it was toldºº Saulº thatº Davidº was fledºº to Gath:º and he soughtºº noº moreº againºººº for him.

 27:5 ¶ And David said unto Achish, If now I have found favor in thine eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?

 27:5 ¶ And Davidº saidºº untoº Achish,º Ifº I have nowº foundºº graceº in thine eyes,º let them giveºº me a placeº in someº townº in the country,º that I may dwellºº there:º for whyº should thy servantº dwellºº in the royalº cityº withº thee?

 27:6 Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.

 27:6 Then Achishº gaveºº himº Ziklagº thatº day:º whereforeº Ziklagº pertainethº unto the kingsº of Judahº untoº thisº day.º

 27:7 And the number of the days that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.

 27:7 And the timeºº thatº Davidº dweltºº in the countryº of the Philistinesº wasº a fullº yearº and fourº months.º

 27:8 ¶ And David and his men went up, and made a raid upon the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those [nations] were the inhabitants of the land, who were of old, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.

 27:8 ¶ And Davidº and his menºº went up,ºº and invadedººº the Geshurites,º and the Gezrites,º and the Amalekites:º forº thoseº [nations were] of oldººº the inhabitantsºº of the land,º as thou goestºº to Shur,º even untoº the landº of Egypt.º

 27:9 And David smote the land, and saved neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel; and he returned, and came to Achish.

 27:9 And Davidº smoteººº the land,º and leftº neitherº manº nor womanº alive,ºº and took awayºº the sheep,º and the oxen,º and the asses,º and the camels,º and the apparel,º and returned,ºº and cameºº toº Achish.º

 27:10 And Achish said, Against whom have ye made a raid to-day? And David said, Against the South of Judah, and against the South of the Jerahmeelites, and against the South of the Kenites.

 27:10 And Achishº said,ºº Whitherº have ye made a roadºº to day?º And Davidº said,ºº Againstº the southº of Judah,º and againstº the southº of the Jerahmeelites,º and againstº the southº of the Kenites.º

 27:11 And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring them to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell of us, saying, So did David, and so hath been his manner all the while he hath dwelt in the country of the Philistines.

 27:11 And Davidº savedºº neitherº manº nor womanº alive,ºº to bringºº [tidings] to Gath,º saying,ºº Lestº they should tellºº onº us, saying,ºº Soº didºº David,º and soº [will be] his mannerº allº the whileº he dwellethºº in the countryº of the Philistines.º

 27:12 And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.

 27:12 And Achishº believedºº David,º saying,ºº He hath made his peopleº Israelº utterlyºº to abhorºº him; therefore he shall beº my servantº for ever.º
