 1:1 ¶ Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth [month], in the fifth [day] of the month, as I was among the captives by the river Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.

 1:1 ¶ Now it came to passº in the thirtiethº year,º in the fourthº [month], in the fifthº [day] of the month,º as Iº [was] amongº the captivesº byº the riverº of Chebar,º [that] the heavensº were opened,ºº and I sawºº visionsº of God.º

 1:2 In the fifth [day] of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity,

 1:2 In the fifthº [day] of the month,º whichº [was] the fifthº yearº of kingº Jehoiachin'sº captivity,º

 1:3 the word of Jehovah came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of Jehovah was there upon him.

 1:3 The wordº of the LORDº came expresslyº untoº Ezekielº the priest,º the sonº of Buzi,º in the landº of the Chaldeansº byº the riverº Chebar;º and the handº of the LORDº wasº thereº uponº him.

 1:4 ¶ And I looked, and, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, a great cloud, with a fire infolding itself, and a brightness round about it, and out of the midst thereof as it were glowing metal, out of the midst of the fire.

 1:4 ¶ And I looked,ºº and, behold,º a whirlwindºº cameºº out ofº the north,º a greatº cloud,º and a fireº infoldingºº itself,º and a brightnessº [was] aboutº it, and out of the midstºº thereof as the colourº of amber,º out of the midstºº of the fire.º

 1:5 And out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man.

 1:5 Also out of the midstºº thereof [came] the likenessº of fourº living creatures.º And thisº [was] their appearance;º theyº had the likenessº of a man.º

 1:6 And every one had four faces, and every one of them had four wings.

 1:6 And every oneº had fourº faces,º and every oneº had fourº wings.º

 1:7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot; and they sparkled like burnished brass.

 1:7 And their feetº [were] straightº feet;º and the soleº of their feetº [was] like the soleº of a calf'sº foot:º and they sparkledºº like the colourº of burnishedº brass.º

 1:8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings [thus]:

 1:8 And [they had] the handsº of a manº underºº their wingsº onº their fourº sides;º and they fourº had their facesº and their wings.º

 1:9 their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

 1:9 Their wingsº [were] joinedºº oneº toº another;º they turnedºº notº when they went;ººº they wentººº every oneº straightº forward.º

 1:10 As for the likeness of their faces, they had the face of a man; and they four had the face of a lion on the right side; and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four had also the face of an eagle.

 1:10 As for the likenessº of their faces,º they fourº had the faceº of a man,º and the faceº of a lion,º onº the right side:º and they fourº had the faceº of an oxº on the left side;ºº they fourº also had the faceº of an eagle.º

 1:11 And their faces and their wings were separate above; two [wings] of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.

 1:11 Thus [were] their faces:º and their wingsº [were] stretchedºº upward;ºº twoº [wings] of every oneº [were] joinedºº oneº to another,º and twoº coveredººº their bodies.º

 1:12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; they turned not when they went.

 1:12 And they wentººº every oneº straightº forward:º whitherºº the spiritº wasº to go,ººº they went;ººº [and] they turnedºº notº when they went.ººº

 1:13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches: [the fire] went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

 1:13 As for the likenessº of the living creatures,º their appearanceº [was] like burningºº coalsº of fire,º [and] like the appearanceº of lamps:º itº went up and downºº amongº the living creatures;º and the fireº was bright,º and out ofº the fireº went forthºº lightning.º

 1:14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

 1:14 And the living creaturesº ranºº and returnedºº as the appearanceº of a flash of lightning.º

 1:15 ¶ Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold, one wheel upon the earth beside the living creatures, for each of the four faces thereof.

 1:15 ¶ Now as I beheldºº the living creatures,º beholdº oneº wheelº upon the earthº byº the living creatures,º with his fourº faces.º

 1:16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto a beryl: and they four had one likeness; and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel within a wheel.

 1:16 The appearanceº of the wheelsº and their workº [was] like unto the colourº of a beryl:º and they fourº had oneº likeness:º and their appearanceº and their workº [was] asº it wereº a wheelº in the middleº of a wheel.º

 1:17 When they went, they went in their four directions: they turned not when they went.

 1:17 When they went,ººº they wentººº uponº their fourº sides:º [and] they turnedºº notº when they went.ººº

 1:18 As for their rims, they were high and dreadful; and they four had their rims full of eyes round about.

 1:18 As for their rings,º they were so highº that they were dreadful;º and their ringsº [were] fullº of eyesº round aboutº them four.º

 1:19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.

 1:19 And when the living creaturesº went,ººº the wheelsº wentººº byº them:º and when the living creaturesº were lifted upºº fromºº the earth,º the wheelsº were lifted up.ºº

 1:20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went; thither was the spirit to go: and the wheels were lifted up beside them; for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

 1:20 Whithersoeverººº the spiritº wasº to go,ººº they went,ººº thitherº [was their] spiritº to go;ººº and the wheelsº were lifted upºº over againstº them: forº the spiritº of the living creatureº [was] in the wheels.º

 1:21 When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up beside them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

 1:21 When those went,ººº [these] went;ººº and when those stood,ºº [these] stood;ºº and when those were lifted upºº fromºº the earth,º the wheelsº were lifted upºº over againstº them: forº the spiritº of the living creatureº [was] in the wheels.º

 1:22 And over the head of the living creature there was the likeness of a firmament, like the terrible crystal to look upon, stretched forth over their heads above.

 1:22 And the likenessº of the firmamentº uponº the headsº of the living creatureº [was] as the colourº of the terribleºº crystal,º stretched forthºº overº their headsº above.ºº

 1:23 And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two which covered on this side, and every one had two which covered on that side, their bodies.

 1:23 And underº the firmamentº [were] their wingsº straight,º the oneº towardº the other:º every oneº had two,º which coveredºº on this side,º and every oneº had two,º which coveredºº on that side,ºº their bodies.º

 1:24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings like the noise of great waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a noise of tumult like the noise of a host: when they stood, they let down their wings.

 1:24 And when they went,ººº I heardººº the noiseº of their wings,º like the noiseº of greatº waters,º as the voiceº of the Almighty,º the voiceº of speech,º as the noiseº of an host:º when they stood,ºº they let downºº their wings.º

 1:25 And there was a voice above the firmament that was over their heads: when they stood, they let down their wings.

 1:25 And there wasº a voiceº fromºº the firmamentº thatº [was] overº their heads,º when they stood,ºº [and] had let downºº their wings.º

 1:26 ¶ And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone; and upon the likeness of the throne was a likeness as the appearance of a man upon it above.

 1:26 ¶ And aboveºº the firmamentº thatº [was] overº their headsº [was] the likenessº of a throne,º as the appearanceº of a sapphireº stone:º and uponº the likenessº of the throneº [was] the likenessº as the appearanceº of a manº aboveºº uponº it.

 1:27 And I saw as it were glowing metal, as the appearance of fire within it round about, from the appearance of his loins and upward; and from the appearance of his loins and downward I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness round about him.

 1:27 And I sawºº as the colourº of amber,º as the appearanceº of fireº round aboutº withinº it, from the appearanceºº of his loinsº even upward,º and from the appearanceºº of his loinsº even downward,º I sawºº as it were the appearanceº of fire,º and it had brightnessº round about.º

 1:28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Jehovah. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

 1:28 As the appearanceº of the bowº thatº isº in the cloudº in the dayº of rain,º soº [was] the appearanceº of the brightnessº round about.º Thisº [was] the appearanceº of the likenessº of the gloryº of the LORD.º And when I sawºº [it], I fellºº uponº my face,º and I heardºº a voiceº of one that spake.ºº
