 8:1 ¶ And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth [month], in the fifth [day] of the month, as I sat in my house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord Jehovah fell there upon me.

 8:1 ¶ And it came to passº in the sixthº year,º in the sixthº [month], in the fifthº [day] of the month,º [as] Iº satºº in mine house,º and the eldersº of Judahº satºº beforeº me, that the handº of the Lordº GODº fellºº thereº uponº me.

 8:2 Then I beheld, and, lo, a likeness as the appearance of fire; from the appearance of his loins and downward, fire; and from his loins and upward, as the appearance of brightness, as it were glowing metal.

 8:2 Then I beheld,ºº and loº a likenessº as the appearanceº of fire:º from the appearanceºº of his loinsº even downward,º fire;º and from his loinsºº even upward,º as the appearanceº of brightness,º as the colourº of amber.º

 8:3 And he put forth the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my head; and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the gate of the inner [court] that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.

 8:3 And he put forthºº the formº of an hand,º and tookºº me by a lockº of mine head;º and the spiritº lifted me upººº betweenº the earthº and the heaven,º and broughtºº me in the visionsº of Godº to Jerusalem,º toº the doorº of the innerº gateº that lookethºº toward the north;º whereºº [was] the seatº of the imageº of jealousy,º which provoketh to jealousy.ººº

 8:4 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the appearance that I saw in the plain.

 8:4 And, behold,º the gloryº of the Godº of Israelº [was] there,º according to the visionº thatº I sawºº in the plain.º

 8:5 ¶ Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold, northward of the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.

 8:5 ¶ Then saidºº he untoº me, Sonº of man,º lift upºº thine eyesº nowº the wayº toward the north.º So I lifted upºº mine eyesº the wayº toward the north,º and beholdº northwardºº at the gateº of the altarº thisº imageº of jealousyº in the entry.º

 8:6 And he said unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel do commit here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but thou shalt again see yet other great abominations.

 8:6 He saidºº furthermore untoº me, Sonº of man,º seestºº thouº whatº theyº do?ºº [even] the greatº abominationsº thatº the houseº of Israelº committethºº here,º that I should go far offºº fromºº my sanctuary?º but turnºº thee yet again,ºº [and] thou shalt seeºº greaterº abominations.º

 8:7 ¶ And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold, a hole in the wall.

 8:7 ¶ And he broughtºº me toº the doorº of the court;º and when I looked,ºº beholdº aº holeº in the wall.º

 8:8 Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold, a door.

 8:8 Then saidºº he untoº me, Sonº of man,º digºº nowº in the wall:º and when I had diggedºº in the wall,º beholdº aº door.º

 8:9 And he said unto me, Go in, and see the wicked abominations that they do here.

 8:9 And he saidºº untoº me, Go in,ºº and beholdººº the wickedº abominationsº thatº theyº doºº here.º

 8:10 So I went in and saw; and behold, every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about.

 8:10 So I went inºº and saw;ºº and beholdº everyº formº of creeping things,º and abominableº beasts,º and allº the idolsº of the houseº of Israel,º pourtrayedºº uponº the wallº round about.º

 8:11 And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel; and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, every man with his censer in his hand; and the odor of the cloud of incense went up.

 8:11 And there stoodºº beforeº them seventyº menº of the ancientsºº of the houseº of Israel,º and in the midstº of them stoodºº Jaazaniahº the sonº of Shaphan,º with every manº his censerº in his hand;º and a thickº cloudº of incenseº went up.ºº

 8:12 Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in his chambers of imagery? for they say, Jehovah seeth us not; Jehovah hath forsaken the land.

 8:12 Then saidºº he untoº me, Sonº of man,º hast thou seenºº whatº the ancientsº of the houseº of Israelº doºº in the dark,º every manº in the chambersº of his imagery?º forº they say,ºº The LORDº seethºº us not;º the LORDº hath forsakenººº the earth.º

 8:13 ¶ He said also unto me, Thou shalt again see yet other great abominations which they do.

 8:13 ¶ He saidºº also untoº me, Turnºº thee yet again,ºº [and] thou shalt seeºº greaterº abominationsº thatº theyº do.ºº

 8:14 Then he brought me to the door of the gate of Jehovah's house which was toward the north; and behold, there sat the women weeping for Tammuz.

 8:14 Then he broughtºº me toº the doorº of the gateº of the LORD'Sº houseº whichº [was] towardº the north;º and, behold,º thereº satºº womenº weepingºº forº Tammuz.º

 8:15 ¶ Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen [this], O son of man? thou shalt again see yet greater abominations than these.

 8:15 ¶ Then saidºº he untoº me, Hast thou seenºº [this], O sonº of man?º turnºº thee yet again,ºº [and] thou shalt seeºº greaterº abominationsº than these.ºº

 8:16 And he brought me into the inner court of Jehovah's house; and behold, at the door of the temple of Jehovah, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of Jehovah, and their faces toward the east; and they were worshipping the sun toward the east.

 8:16 And he broughtºº me intoº the innerº courtº of the LORD'Sº house,º and, behold,º at the doorº of the templeº of the LORD,º betweenº the porchº and the altar,º [were] about fiveº and twentyº men,º with their backsº towardº the templeº of the LORD,º and their facesº toward the east;º and theyº worshippedºº the sunº toward the east.º

 8:17 ¶ Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen [this], O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have turned again to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.

 8:17 ¶ Then he saidºº untoº me, Hast thou seenºº [this], O sonº of man?º Is it a light thingºº to the houseº of Judahº that they commitºººº the abominationsº whichº they commitºº here?º forº they have filledººº the landº with violence,º and have returnedºº to provoke me to anger:ºº and, lo,º they putººº the branchº toº their nose.º

 8:18 Therefore will I also deal in wrath; mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.

 8:18 Therefore will Iº alsoº dealºº in fury:º mine eyeº shall notº spare,ºº neitherº will I have pity:ºº and though they cryºº in mine earsº with a loudº voice,º [yet] will I notº hearºº them.
