 22:1 ¶
The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops? |
|
 22:1 ¶
The burdenº
of the valleyº
of vision.º
Whatº
aileth thee now,º
thatº
thou art whollyº
gone upºº
to the housetops?º |
 22:2
O thou that art full of shoutings, a tumultuous city, a joyous town; thy slain are not slain with the sword, neither are they dead in battle. |
|
 22:2
Thou that art fullº
of stirs,º
a tumultuousºº
city,º
a joyousº
city:º
thy slainº
[men are] notº
slainº
with the sword,º
norº
deadºº
in battle.º |
 22:3
All thy rulers fled away together, they were bound by the archers; all that were found of thee were bound together; they fled afar off. |
|
 22:3
Allº
thy rulersº
are fledºº
together,º
they are boundºº
by the archers:ºº
allº
that are foundºº
in thee are boundºº
together,º
[which] have fledºº
from far.ºº |
 22:4
Therefore said I, Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; labor not to comfort me for the destruction of the daughter of my people. |
|
 22:4
Thereforeºº
saidºº
I, Look awayºº
fromº
me; I will weepº
bitterly,ºº
labourºº
notº
to comfortºº
me, becauseº
of the spoilingº
of the daughterº
of my people.º |
 22:5
For it is a day of discomfiture, and of treading down, and of perplexity, from the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, in the valley of vision; a breaking down of the walls, and a crying to the mountains. |
|
 22:5
Forº
[it is] a dayº
of trouble,º
and of treading down,º
and of perplexityº
by the Lordº
GODº
of hostsº
in the valleyº
of vision,º
breakingºº
downº
the walls,º
and of cryingº
toº
the mountains.º |
 22:6
And Elam bare the quiver, with chariots of men [and] horsemen; and Kir uncovered the shield. |
|
 22:6
And Elamº
bareºº
the quiverº
with chariotsº
of menº
[and] horsemen,º
and Kirº
uncoveredºº
the shield.º |
 22:7
And it came to pass, that thy choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the horsemen set themselves in array at the gate. |
|
 22:7
And it shall come to pass,º
[that] thy choicestºº
valleysº
shall be fullºº
of chariots,º
and the horsemenº
shall setºº
themselves in arrayºº
at the gate.º |
 22:8 ¶
And he took away the covering of Judah; and thou didst look in that day to the armor in the house of the forest. |
|
 22:8 ¶
And he discoveredººº
the coveringº
of Judah,º
and thou didst lookºº
in thatº
dayº
toº
the armourº
of the houseº
of the forest.º |
 22:9
And ye saw the breaches of the city of David, that they were many; and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool; |
|
 22:9
Ye have seenºº
also the breachesº
of the cityº
of David,º
thatº
they are many:ºº
and ye gathered togetherººº
the watersº
of the lowerº
pool.º |
 22:10
and ye numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and ye brake down the houses to fortify the wall; |
|
 22:10
And ye have numberedºº
the housesº
of Jerusalem,º
and the housesº
have ye broken downºº
to fortifyºº
the wall.º |
 22:11
ye made also a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But ye looked not unto him that had done this, neither had ye respect unto him that purposed it long ago. |
|
 22:11
Ye madeºº
also a ditchº
betweenº
the two wallsº
for the waterº
of the oldº
pool:º
but ye have notº
lookedºº
untoº
the makerºº
thereof, neitherº
had respectºº
unto him that fashionedºº
it long ago.ºº |
 22:12
And in that day did the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: |
|
 22:12
And in thatº
dayº
did the Lordº
GODº
of hostsº
callºº
to weeping,º
and to mourning,º
and to baldness,º
and to girdingºº
with sackcloth:º |
 22:13
and behold, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we shall die. |
|
 22:13
And beholdº
joyº
and gladness,º
slayingºº
oxen,º
and killingºº
sheep,º
eatingºº
flesh,º
and drinkingºº
wine:º
let us eatºº
and drink;ºº
forº
to morrowº
we shall die.ºº |
 22:14
And Jehovah of hosts revealed himself in mine ears, Surely this iniquity shall not be forgiven you till ye die, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts. |
|
 22:14
And it was revealedºº
in mine earsº
by the LORDº
of hosts,º
Surelyº
thisº
iniquityº
shall not be purgedºº
from you tillº
ye die,ºº
saithºº
the Lordº
GODº
of hosts.º |
 22:15 ¶
Thus saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, who is over the house, [and say], |
|
 22:15 ¶
Thusº
saithºº
the Lordº
GODº
of hosts,º
Go,ººº
getºº
thee untoº
thisº
treasurer,ºº
[even] untoº
Shebna,º
whichº
[is] overº
the house,º
[and say], |
 22:16
What doest thou here? and whom has thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out here a sepulchre? hewing him out a sepulchre on high, graving a habitation for himself in the rock! |
|
 22:16
Whatº
hast thou here?º
and whomº
hast thou here,º
thatº
thou hast hewed thee outºº
a sepulchreº
here,º
[as] he that heweth him outºº
a sepulchreº
on high,º
[and] that gravethºº
an habitationº
for himself in a rock?º |
 22:17
Behold, Jehovah, like a [strong] man, will hurl thee away violently; yea, he will wrap thee up closely. |
|
 22:17
Behold,º
the LORDº
will carry thee awayºº
with a mightyº
captivity,º
and will surelyºº
coverºº
thee. |
 22:18
He will surely wind thee round and round, [and toss thee] like a ball into a large country; there shalt thou die, and there shall be the chariots of thy glory, thou shame of thy lord's house. |
|
 22:18
He will surelyºº
violently turnºº
and tossº
thee [like] a ballº
intoº
a largeºº
country:º
thereº
shalt thou die,ºº
and thereº
the chariotsº
of thy gloryº
[shall be] the shameº
of thy lord'sº
house.º |
 22:19
And I will thrust thee from thine office; and from thy station shalt thou be pulled down. |
|
 22:19
And I will driveºº
thee from thy station,ºº
and from thy stateºº
shall he pull thee down.ºº |
 22:20 ¶
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah: |
|
 22:20 ¶
And it shall come to passº
in thatº
day,º
that I will callºº
my servantº
Eliakimº
the sonº
of Hilkiah:º |
 22:21
and I will cloth him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand; and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. |
|
 22:21
And I will clotheºº
him with thy robe,º
and strengthenºº
him with thy girdle,º
and I will commitºº
thy governmentº
into his hand:º
and he shall beº
a fatherº
to the inhabitantsºº
of Jerusalem,º
and to the houseº
of Judah.º |
 22:22
And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; and he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. |
|
 22:22
And the keyº
of the houseº
of Davidº
will I layºº
uponº
his shoulder;º
so he shall open,ºº
and noneº
shall shut;ºº
and he shall shut,ºº
and noneº
shall open.ºº |
 22:23
And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a throne of glory to his father's house. |
|
 22:23
And I will fastenºº
him [as] a nailº
in a sureºº
place;º
and he shall beº
for a gloriousº
throneº
to his father'sº
house.º |
 22:24
And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, every small vessel, from the cups even to all the flagons. |
|
 22:24
And they shall hangºº
uponº
him allº
the gloryº
of his father'sº
house,º
the offspringº
and the issue,º
allº
vesselsº
of smallº
quantity,º
from the vesselsºº
of cups,º
even toº
allº
the vesselsº
of flagons.º |
 22:25
In that day, saith Jehovah of hosts, shall the nail that was fastened in a sure place give way; and it shall be hewn down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off; for Jehovah hath spoken it. |
|
 22:25
In thatº
day,º
saithºº
the LORDº
of hosts,º
shall the nailº
that is fastenedºº
in the sureºº
placeº
be removed,ºº
and be cut down,ºº
and fall;ºº
and the burdenº
thatº
[was] uponº
it shall be cut off:ºº
forº
the LORDº
hath spokenºº
[it]. |
