 41:1 ¶ Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the peoples renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak; let us come near together to judgment.

 41:1 ¶ Keep silenceºº beforeº me, O islands;º and let the peopleº renewºº [their] strength:º let them come near;ºº thenº let them speak:ºº let us come nearºº togetherº to judgment.º

 41:2 Who hath raised up one from the east, whom he calleth in righteousness to his foot? he giveth nations before him, and maketh him rule over kings; he giveth them as the dust to his sword, as the driven stubble to his bow.

 41:2 Whoº raised upºº the righteousº [man] from the east,ºº calledºº him to his foot,º gaveºº the nationsº beforeº him, and made [him] ruleºº over kings?º he gaveºº [them] as the dustº to his sword,º [and] as drivenºº stubbleº to his bow.º

 41:3 He pursueth them, and passeth on safely, even by a way that he had not gone with his feet.

 41:3 He pursuedºº them, [and] passedºº safely;º [even] by the wayº [that] he had notº goneºº with his feet.º

 41:4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I, Jehovah, the first, and with the last, I am he.

 41:4 Whoº hath wroughtºº and doneºº [it], callingºº the generationsº from the beginning?ºº Iº the LORD,º the first,º and withº the last;º Iº [am] he.º

 41:5 The isles have seen, and fear; the ends of the earth tremble; they draw near, and come.

 41:5 The islesº sawºº [it], and feared;ºº the endsº of the earthº were afraid,ºº drew near,ºº and came.ºº

 41:6 They help every one his neighbor; and [every one] saith to his brother, Be of good courage.

 41:6 They helpedºº every oneºº his neighbour;º and [every one] saidºº to his brother,º Be of good courage.ºº

 41:7 So the carpenter encourageth the goldsmith, [and] he that smootheth with the hammer him that smiteth the anvil, saying of the soldering, It is good; and he fasteneth it with nails, that it should not be moved.

 41:7 So the carpenterº encouragedººº the goldsmith,ºº [and] he that smoothethºº [with] the hammerºº him that smoteºº the anvil,º saying,ºº Itº [is] readyº for the sodering:º and he fastenedºº it with nails,º [that] it should notº be moved.ºº

 41:8 But thou, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend,

 41:8 But thou,º Israel,º [art] my servant,º Jacobº whomº I have chosen,ºº the seedº of Abrahamº my friend.ºº

 41:9 thou whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and called from the corners thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant, I have chosen thee and not cast thee away;

 41:9 [Thou] whomº I have takenºº from the endsºº of the earth,º and calledºº thee from the chief menºº thereof, and saidºº unto thee, Thouº [art] my servant;º I have chosenºº thee, and notº cast thee away.ºº

 41:10 ¶ Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

 41:10 ¶ Fearºº thou not;º forº Iº [am] withº thee: be notº dismayed;ºº forº Iº [am] thy God:º I will strengthenºº thee; yea,º I will helpºº thee; yea,º I will upholdºº thee with the right handº of my righteousness.º

 41:11 Behold, all they that are incensed against thee shall be put to shame and confounded: they that strive with thee shall be as nothing, and shall perish.

 41:11 Behold,º allº they that were incensedºº against thee shall be ashamedºº and confounded:ºº they shall beº as nothing;º and theyºº that striveº with thee shall perish.ºº

 41:12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contend with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.

 41:12 Thou shalt seekºº them, and shalt notº findºº them,º [even] themº that contendedº with thee: theyº that warº against thee shall beº as nothing,º and as a thing of nought.º

 41:13 For I, Jehovah thy God, will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

 41:13 Forº Iº the LORDº thy Godº will holdºº thy right hand,º sayingºº unto thee, Fearºº not;º Iº will helpºº thee.

 41:14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith Jehovah, and thy Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

 41:14 Fearºº not,º thou wormº Jacob,º [and] ye menº of Israel;º Iº will helpºº thee, saithºº the LORD,º and thy redeemer,ºº the Holy Oneº of Israel.º

 41:15 Behold, I have made thee [to be] a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth; thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.

 41:15 Behold,º I will makeºº thee a newº sharpº threshingº instrumentº havingº teeth:º thou shalt threshºº the mountains,º and beat [them] small,ºº and shalt makeºº the hillsº as chaff.º

 41:16 Thou shalt winnow them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them; and thou shalt rejoice in Jehovah, thou shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.

 41:16 Thou shalt fanºº them, and the windº shall carry them away,ºº and the whirlwindº shall scatterºº them: and thouº shalt rejoiceºº in the LORD,º [and] shalt gloryºº in the Holy Oneº of Israel.º

 41:17 The poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst; I, Jehovah, will answer them, I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

 41:17 [When] the poorº and needyº seekºº water,º and [there is] none,º [and] their tongueº failethºº for thirst,º Iº the LORDº will hearºº them, I the Godº of Israelº will notº forsakeºº them.

 41:18 I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

 41:18 I will openºº riversº inº high places,º and fountainsº in the midstº of the valleys:º I will makeºº the wildernessº a poolº of water,º and the dryº landº springsº of water.º

 41:19 I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, and the myrtle, and the oil-tree; I will set in the desert the fir-tree, the pine, and the box-tree together:

 41:19 I will plantºº in the wildernessº the cedar,º the shittah tree,º and the myrtle,º and the oilº tree;º I will setºº in the desertº the fir tree,º [and] the pine,º and the box treeº together:º

 41:20 that they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of Jehovah hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.

 41:20 Thatº they may see,ºº and know,ºº and consider,ºº and understandºº together,º thatº the handº of the LORDº hath doneºº this,º and the Holy Oneº of Israelº hath createdºº it.

 41:21 Produce your cause, saith Jehovah; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.

 41:21 Produceºº your cause,º saithºº the LORD;º bring forthºº your strongº [reasons], saithºº the Kingº of Jacob.º

 41:22 Let them bring forth, and declare unto us what shall happen: declare ye the former things, what they are, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or show us things to come.

 41:22 Let them bring [them] forth,ºº and shewºº usº whatº shall happen:ºº let them shewºº the former things,º whatº theyº [be], that we may considerººº them, and knowºº the latter endº of them; orº declareºº us things for to come.ºº

 41:23 Declare the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.

 41:23 Shewºº the things that are to comeºº hereafter,º that we may knowºº thatº yeº [are] gods:º yea,º do good,ºº or do evil,ºº that we may be dismayed,ºº and beholdºº [it] together.º

 41:24 Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work is of nought; an abomination is he that chooseth you.

 41:24 Behold,º yeº [are] of nothing,ºº and your workº of nought:ºº an abominationº [is he that] choosethºº you.

 41:25 I have raised up one from the north, and he is come; from the rising of the sun one that calleth upon my name: and he shall come upon rulers as upon mortar, and as the potter treadeth clay.

 41:25 I have raised upºº [one] from the north,ºº and he shall come:ºº from the risingºº of the sunº shall he callºº upon my name:º and he shall comeºº upon princesº asº [upon] morter,º and asº the potterºº treadethºº clay.º

 41:26 Who hath declared it from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, [He is] right? yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that showeth, yea, there is none that heareth your words.

 41:26 Whoº hath declaredºº from the beginning,ºº that we may know?ºº and beforetime,ºº that we may say,ºº [He is] righteous?º yea,º [there is] noneº that sheweth,ºº yea,º [there is] noneº that declareth,ºº yea,º [there is] noneº that hearethºº your words.º

 41:27 [I am the] first [that saith] unto Zion, Behold, behold them; and I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good tidings.

 41:27 The firstº [shall say] to Zion,º Behold,º beholdº them: and I will giveºº to Jerusalemº one that bringeth good tidings.ºº

 41:28 And when I look, there is no man: even among them there is no counsellor, that, when I ask of them, can answer a word.

 41:28 For I beheld,ºº and [there was] noº man;º even among them,ºº and [there was] noº counsellor,ºº that, when I askedºº of them, could answerºº a word.º

 41:29 Behold, all of them, their works are vanity [and] nought; their molten images are wind and confusion.

 41:29 Behold,º they [are] allº vanity;º their worksº [are] nothing:º their molten imagesº [are] windº and confusion.º
