 5:1 ¶
Let me sing for my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved had a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: |
|
 5:1 ¶
Nowº
will I singºº
to my wellbelovedº
a songº
of my belovedº
touching his vineyard.º
My wellbelovedº
hathº
a vineyardº
in a very fruitfulºº
hill:ººº |
 5:2
and he digged it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. |
|
 5:2
And he fencedºº
it, and gathered out the stonesºº
thereof, and plantedºº
it with the choicest vine,º
and builtºº
a towerº
in the midstº
of it, and alsoº
madeºº
a winepressº
therein: and he lookedºº
that it should bring forthºº
grapes,º
and it brought forthºº
wild grapes.º |
 5:3
And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard. |
|
 5:3
And now,º
O inhabitantsºº
of Jerusalem,º
and menº
of Judah,º
judge,ºº
I pray you,º
betwixtº
me and my vineyard.º |
 5:4
What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? |
|
 5:4
Whatº
could have been doneºº
moreº
to my vineyard,º
that I have notº
doneºº
in it? wherefore,º
when I lookedºº
that it should bring forthºº
grapes,º
brought it forthºº
wild grapes?º |
 5:5
And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down: |
|
 5:5
And nowº
go to; I will tellººº
youº
whatº
Iº
will doºº
to my vineyard:º
I will take awayºº
the hedgeº
thereof, and it shall beº
eaten up;ºº
[and] break downºº
the wallº
thereof, and it shall beº
trodden down:º |
 5:6
and I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor hoed; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. |
|
 5:6
And I will layºº
it waste:º
it shall notº
be pruned,ººº
norº
digged;ºº
but there shall come upºº
briersº
and thorns:º
I will also commandººº
the cloudsº
that they rainºº
no rainººº
uponº
it. |
 5:7
For the vineyard of Jehovah of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry. |
|
 5:7
Forº
the vineyardº
of the LORDº
of hostsº
[is] the houseº
of Israel,º
and the menº
of Judahº
his pleasantº
plant:º
and he lookedºº
for judgment,º
but beholdº
oppression;º
for righteousness,º
but beholdº
a cry.º |
 5:8 ¶
Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no room, and ye be made to dwell alone in the midst of the land! |
|
 5:8 ¶
Woeº
unto them that joinºº
houseº
to house,º
[that] layºº
fieldº
to field,º
tillº
[there be] noº
place,º
that they may be placedºº
aloneº
in the midstº
of the earth!º |
 5:9
In mine ears [saith] Jehovah of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant. |
|
 5:9
In mine earsº
[said] the LORDº
of hosts,º
Of a truthºº
manyº
housesº
shall beº
desolate,º
[even] greatº
and fair,º
withoutºº
inhabitant.ºº |
 5:10
For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and a homer of seed shall yield [but] an ephah. |
|
 5:10
Yea,º
tenº
acresº
of vineyardº
shall yieldºº
oneº
bath,º
and the seedº
of an homerº
shall yieldºº
an ephah.º |
 5:11 ¶
Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that tarry late into the night, till wine inflame them! |
|
 5:11 ¶
Woeº
unto them that rise up earlyºº
in the morning,º
[that] they may followºº
strong drink;º
that continueºº
until night,º
[till] wineº
inflameºº
them! |
 5:12
And the harp and the lute, the tabret and the pipe, and wine, are [in] their feasts; but they regard not the work of Jehovah, neither have they considered the operation of his hands. |
|
 5:12
And the harp,º
and the viol,º
the tabret,º
and pipe,º
and wine,º
areº
in their feasts:º
but they regardºº
notº
the workº
of the LORD,º
neitherº
considerºº
the operationº
of his hands.º |
 5:13 ¶
Therefore my people are gone into captivity for lack of knowledge; and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude are parched with thirst. |
|
 5:13 ¶
Thereforeº
my peopleº
are gone into captivity,ºº
because [they have] noºº
knowledge:º
and their honourableº
menº
[are] famished,º
and their multitudeº
dried upº
with thirst.º |
 5:14
Therefore Sheol hath enlarged its desire, and opened its mouth without measure; and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth among them, descend [into it]. |
|
 5:14
Thereforeº
hellº
hath enlargedºº
herself,º
and openedºº
her mouthº
withoutº
measure:º
and their glory,º
and their multitude,º
and their pomp,º
and he that rejoiceth,º
shall descendºº
into it. |
 5:15
And the mean man is bowed down, and the great man is humbled, and the eyes of the lofty are humbled: |
|
 5:15
And the mean manº
shall be brought down,ºº
and the mighty manº
shall be humbled,ºº
and the eyesº
of the loftyº
shall be humbled:ºº |
 5:16
but Jehovah of hosts is exalted in justice, and God the Holy One is sanctified in righteousness. |
|
 5:16
But the LORDº
of hostsº
shall be exaltedºº
in judgment,º
and Godº
that is holyº
shall be sanctifiedºº
in righteousness.º |
 5:17
Then shall the lambs feed as in their pasture, and the waste places of the fat ones shall wanderers eat. |
|
 5:17
Then shall the lambsº
feedºº
after their manner,º
and the waste placesº
of the fat onesº
shall strangersºº
eat.ºº |
 5:18
Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, and sin as it were with a cart rope; |
|
 5:18
Woeº
unto them that drawºº
iniquityº
with cordsº
of vanity,º
and sinºº
as it were with a cartº
rope:º |
 5:19
that say, Let him make speed, let him hasten his work, that we may see it; and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it! |
|
 5:19
That say,ºº
Let him make speed,ºº
[and] hastenºº
his work,º
thatº
we may seeºº
[it]: and let the counselº
of the Holy Oneº
of Israelº
draw nighºº
and come,ºº
that we may knowºº
[it]! |
 5:20 ¶
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! |
|
 5:20 ¶
Woeº
unto them that callºº
evilº
good,º
and goodº
evil;º
that putºº
darknessº
for light,º
and lightº
for darkness;º
that putºº
bitterº
for sweet,º
and sweetº
for bitter!º |
 5:21
Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! |
|
 5:21
Woeº
unto [them that are] wiseº
in their own eyes,º
and prudentºº
inº
their own sight!º |
 5:22
Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink; |
|
 5:22
Woeº
unto [them that are] mightyº
to drinkºº
wine,º
and menºº
of strengthº
to mingleºº
strong drink:º |
 5:23
that justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! |
|
 5:23
Which justifyºº
the wickedº
forº
reward,º
and take awayºº
the righteousnessº
of the righteousº
fromº
him! |
 5:24
Therefore as the tongue of fire devoureth the stubble, and as the dry grass sinketh down in the flame, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust; because they have rejected the law of Jehovah of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. |
|
 5:24
Thereforeº
as the fireº
devourethºº
the stubble,º
and the flameºº
consumethºº
the chaff,º
[so] their rootº
shall beº
as rottenness,º
and their blossomº
shall go upºº
as dust:º
becauseº
they have cast awayººº
the lawº
of the LORDº
of hosts,º
and despisedºº
the wordº
of the Holy Oneº
of Israel.º |
 5:25
Therefore is the anger of Jehovah kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them; and the mountains tremble, and their dead bodies are as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. |
|
 5:25
Thereforeºº
is the angerº
of the LORDº
kindledºº
against his people,º
and he hath stretched forthºº
his handº
againstº
them, and hath smittenºº
them: and the hillsº
did tremble,ºº
and their carcasesº
[were] tornºº
in the midstº
of the streets.º
For allº
thisº
his angerº
is notº
turned away,ºº
but his handº
[is] stretched outºº
still.º |
 5:26 ¶
And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss for them from the end of the earth; and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly. |
|
 5:26 ¶
And he will lift upºº
an ensignº
to the nationsº
from far,ºº
and will hissºº
unto them from the endºº
of the earth:º
and, behold,º
they shall comeºº
with speedº
swiftly:º |
 5:27
None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken: |
|
 5:27
Noneº
shall be wearyº
norº
stumbleºº
among them; noneº
shall slumberºº
norº
sleep;ºº
neitherº
shall the girdleº
of their loinsº
be loosed,ºº
norº
the latchetº
of their shoesº
be broken:ºº |
 5:28
whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent; their horses' hoofs shall be accounted as flint, and their wheels as a whirlwind: |
|
 5:28
Whoseº
arrowsº
[are] sharp,ºº
and allº
their bowsº
bent,ºº
their horses'º
hoofsº
shall be countedºº
like flint,ºº
and their wheelsº
like a whirlwind:º |
 5:29
their roaring shall be like a lioness, they shall roar like young lions; yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and carry it away safe, and there shall be none to deliver. |
|
 5:29
Their roaringº
[shall be] like a lion,º
they shall roarºººº
like young lions:º
yea, they shall roar,ºº
and lay holdºº
of the prey,º
and shall carry [it] away safe,ºº
and noneº
shall deliverºº
[it]. |
 5:30
And they shall roar against them in that day like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold, darkness [and] distress; and the light is darkened in the clouds thereof. |
|
 5:30
And in thatº
dayº
they shall roarºº
againstº
them like the roaringº
of the sea:º
and if [one] lookºº
unto the land,º
beholdº
darknessº
[and] sorrow,º
and the lightº
is darkenedºº
in the heavensº
thereof. |
