with a rodº

the cheek.º |

5:1 ¶
Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Yisrael with a rod upon the cheek. |
|
5:2
But thou,º
Bê± Läçem
בֵּית־לָחֶםº
´Efrä±à
אֶפרָתָה,º
[though] thou beº
littleº
among the thousandsº
of
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה,º
[yet] out ofº
thee shall he come forthºº
unto me [that is] to beº
rulerºº
in
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל;º
whose goings forthº
[have been] from of old,ºº
from everlasting.ººº |

5:2
But thou, Beth-Lachem Efrathah, [though] thou be little among the thousands of Yehudah, [yet] out of thee shall he come forth unto me [that is] to be ruler in Yisrael; whose goings forth [have been] from of old, from everlasting. |
|
5:3
Thereforeº
will he give them up,ºº
untilº
the timeº
[that] she which travailethºº
hath brought forth:ºº
then the remnantº
of his brethrenº
shall returnºº
untoº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |
|
5:3
Therefore will he give them up, until the time [that] she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Yisrael. |
|
5:4 ¶
And he shall standºº
and feedºº
in the strengthº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
in the majestyº
of the nameº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
his
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים;º
and they shall abide:ºº
forº
nowº
shall he be greatºº
untoº
the endsº
of the earth.º |

5:4 ¶
And he shall stand and feed in the strength of Yahweh, in the majesty of the name of Yahweh his Elohim; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. |

5:5
And thisº
[man] shall beº
the peace,º
whenº
the
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
shall comeºº
into our land:º
and whenº
he shall treadºº
in our palaces,º
then shall we raiseºº
againstº
him sevenº
shepherds,ºº
and eightº
principalº
men.º |

5:5
And this [man] shall be the peace, when the Ashshur shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. |
|
5:6
And they shall wasteºººº
the landº
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
with the sword,º
and the landº
of
Nimrôð
נִמרוֹדº
in the entrancesº
thereof: thus shall he deliverºº
[us] fromº
the
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּר,º
whenº
he comethºº
into our land,º
and whenº
he treadethºº
within our borders.º |

5:6
And they shall waste the land of Ashshur with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver [us] from the Ashshur, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders. |

5:7
And the remnantº
of

יַעֲקֹבº
shall beº
in the midstº
of manyº
peopleº
as a dewº
fromºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
as the showersº
uponº
the grass,º
thatº
tarriethºº
notº
for man,º
norº
waitethºº
for the sonsº
of men.º |

5:7
And the remnant of Yaaqov shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from Yahweh, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men. |
|
5:8 ¶
And the remnantº
of
Ya`áköv
יַעֲקֹבº
shall beº
among the Gentilesº
in the midstº
of manyº
peopleº
as a lionº
among the beastsº
of the forest,º
as a young lionº
among the flocksº
of sheep:º
who,º
ifº
he go through,ºº
both treadeth down,ºº
and teareth in pieces,ºº
and noneº
can deliver.ºº |

5:8 ¶
And the remnant of Yaaqov shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver. |
|
5:9
Thine handº
shall be lifted upºº
uponº
thine adversaries,º
and allº
thine enemiesºº
shall be cut off.ºº |
|
5:9
Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off. |
|
5:10
And it shall come to passº
in thatº
day,º
saithºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
that I will cut offºº
thy horsesº
out of the midstºº
of thee, and I will destroyºº
thy chariots:º |
|
5:10
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith Yahweh, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots: |
|
5:11
And I will cut offºº
the citiesººº
of thy land,º
and throw downºº
allº
thy strong holds:º |
|
5:11
And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds: |
|
5:12
And I will cut offºº
witchcraftsº
out of thine hand;ºº
and thou shalt haveº
noº
[more] soothsayers:ºº |
|
5:12
And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no [more] soothsayers: |
|
5:13
Thy graven imagesº
also will I cut off,ºº
and thy standing imagesº
out of the midstºº
of thee; and thou shalt noº
moreº
worshipºº
the workº
of thine hands.º |

5:13
Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands. |
|
5:14
And I will pluck upºº
thy grovesº
out of the midstºº
of thee: so will I destroyºº
thy cities.ººº |
|
5:14
And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities. |
|
5:15
And I will executeºº
vengeanceº
in angerº
and furyº
uponº
the heathen,º
such asº
they have notº
heard.ºº |
|
5:15
And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard. |
