Genesis 21

1 Isaac is born. 4 He is circumcised. 6 Sarah's joy. 9 Hagar and Ishmael are cast forth. 15 Hagar in distress. 17 The angel comforteth her. 22 Abimelech's covenant with Abraham at Beer-sheba.

 21:1 Then the LORD 3068 took 6485 note 6485 of Sarah 8283 as He had said 559, and the LORD 3068 did 6213a for Sarah 8283 as He had promised 1696.

 21:2 So Sarah 8283 conceived 2029 and bore 3205 a son 1121 to Abraham 85 in his old 2208 age 2208, at the appointed 4150 time 4150 of which 834 God 430 had spoken 1696 to him.

 21:3 Abraham 85 called 7121 the name 8034 of his son 1121 who was born 3205 to him, whom 834 Sarah 8283 bore 3205 to him, Isaac 3327.

 21:4 Then Abraham 85 circumcised 4135 his son 1121 Isaac 3327 when he was eight 8083 days 3117 old 1121, as God 430 had commanded 6680 him.

 21:5 Now Abraham 85 was one hundred 3967 years 8141 old 1121 when his son 1121 Isaac 3327 was born 3205 to him.

 21:6 Sarah 8283 said 559, “God 430 has made 6213a laughter 6712 for me; everyone 3605 who hears 8085 will laugh 6711 with me.”

 21:7 And she said 559, “Who 4310 would have said 559 to Abraham 85 that Sarah 8283 would nurse 3243 children 1121? Yet 3588 I have borne 3205 him a son 1121 in his old 2208 age 2208.”

 21:8 ¶ The child 3206 grew 1431 and was weaned 1580, and Abraham 85 made 6213a a great 1419 feast 4960 on the day 3117 that Isaac 3327 was weaned 1580.

 21:9 Now Sarah 8283 saw 7200 the son 1121 of Hagar 1904 the Egyptian 4713, whom 834 she had borne 3205 to Abraham 85, mocking 6711.

 21:10 Therefore she said 559 to Abraham 85, “Drive 1644 out this 2088 maid 519 and her son 1121, for the son 1121 of this 2088 maid 519 shall not be an heir 3423 with my son 1121 Isaac 3327.”

 21:11 The matter 1697 distressed 7489a Abraham 85 greatly 3966 because 5921 182 of his son 1121.

 21:12 But God 430 said 559 to Abraham 85, “Do not be distressed 7489a because 5921 of the lad 5288 and your maid 519; whatever 3605 834 Sarah 8283 tells 559 you, listen 8085 to her, for through 4480 Isaac 3327 your descendants 2233 shall be named 7121.

 21:13 “And of the son 1121 of the maid 519 I will make 7760 a nation 1471 also 1571, because 3588 he is your descendant 2233.”

 21:14 So Abraham 85 rose 7925 early 7925 in the morning 1242 and took 3947 bread 3899 and a skin 2573 of water 4325 and gave 5414 [them] to Hagar 1904, putting 7760 [them] on her shoulder 7926, and [gave her] the boy 3206, and sent 7971 her away 7971. And she departed 1980 and wandered 8582 about in the wilderness 4057b of Beersheba 884.

 21:15 ¶ When the water 4325 in the skin 2573 was used 3615 up, she left 7993 the boy 3206 under 8478 one 259 of the bushes 7880.

 21:16 Then she went 1980 and sat 3427 down 3427 opposite 4480 5048 him, about a bowshot 2909 7198 away 7368, for she said 559, “Do not let me see 7200 the boy 3206 die 4194.” And she sat 3427 opposite 4480 5048 him, and lifted 5375 up her voice 6963 and wept 1058.

 21:17 God 430 heard 8085 the lad 5288 crying 6963; and the angel 4397 of God 430 called 7121 to Hagar 1904 from heaven 8064 and said 559 to her, “What 4100 is the matter with you, Hagar 1904? Do not fear 3372a, for God 430 has heard 8085 the voice 6963 of the lad 5288 where 834 8033 he is.

 21:18 “Arise 6965, lift 5375 up the lad 5288, and hold 2388 him by the hand 3027, for I will make 7760 a great 1419 nation 1471 of him.”

 21:19 Then God 430 opened 6491b her eyes 5869 and she saw 7200 a well 875 of water 4325; and she went 1980 and filled 4390 the skin 2573 with water 4325 and gave 8248 the lad 5288 a drink 8248.

 21:20 ¶ God 430 was with the lad 5288, and he grew 1431; and he lived 3427 in the wilderness 4057b and became 1961 an archer 7235b 7199.

 21:21 He lived 3427 in the wilderness 4057b of Paran 6290, and his mother 517 took 3947 a wife 802 for him from the land 776 of Egypt 4714.

 21:22 ¶ Now it came 1961 about at that time 6256 that Abimelech 40 and Phicol 6369, the commander 8269 of his army 6635, spoke 559 to Abraham 85, saying 559, “God 430 is with you in all 3605 that you do 6213a;

 21:23 now 6258 therefore, swear 7650 to me here 2008 by God 430 that you will not deal 8266 falsely 8266 with me or with my offspring 5209 or with my posterity 5220, but according to the kindness 2617a that I have shown 6213a to you, you shall show 6213a to me and to the land 776 in which 834 you have sojourned 1481a.”

 21:24 Abraham 85 said 559, “I swear 7650 it.”

 21:25 But Abraham 85 complained 3198 to Abimelech 40 because 5921 182 of the well 875 of water 4325 which 834 the servants 5650 of Abimelech 40 had seized 1497.

 21:26 And Abimelech 40 said 559, “I do not know 3045 who 4310 has done 6213a this 2088 thing 1697; you did not tell 5046 me, nor 571 3808 did I hear 8085 of it until 1115 today 3117.”

 21:27 ¶ Abraham 85 took 3947 sheep 6629 and oxen 1241 and gave 5414 them to Abimelech 40, and the two 8147 of them made 3772 a covenant 1285.

 21:28 Then Abraham 85 set 5324 seven 7651 ewe 3535 lambs 3535 of the flock 6629 by themselves 905.

 21:29 Abimelech 40 said 559 to Abraham 85, “What 4100 do these 428 seven 7651 ewe 3535 lambs 3535 mean, which 834 you have set 5324 by themselves 905?”

 21:30 He said 559, “You shall take 3947 these seven 7651 ewe 3535 lambs 3535 from my hand 3027 so 5668 that it may be a witness 5713a to me, that I dug 2658 this 2088 well 875.”

 21:31 Therefore 5921 3651 he called 7121 that place 4725 Beersheba 884, because 3588 there 8033 the two 8147 of them took 7650 an oath 7650.

 21:32 So they made 3772 a covenant 1285 at Beersheba 884; and Abimelech 40 and Phicol 6369, the commander 8269 of his army 6635, arose 6965 and returned 7725 to the land 776 of the Philistines 6430.

 21:33 [Abraham] planted 5193 a tamarisk 815 tree 815 at Beersheba 884, and there 8033 he called 7121 on the name 8034 of the LORD 3068, the Everlasting 5769 God 410.

 21:34 And Abraham 85 sojourned 1481a in the land 776 of the Philistines 6430 for many 7227a days 3117.
