Numbers 16

1 The rebellion of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. 23 Moses separateth the people from the rebels' tents. 31 The earth swalloweth up Korah, and a fire consumeth others. 36 The censers are reserved to holy use. 41 Fourteen thousand and seven hundred are slain by a plague for murmuring against Moses and Aaron. 46 Aaron by incense stayeth the plague.

 16:1 Now Korah 7141 the son 1121 of Izhar 3324, the son 1121 of Kohath 6955, the son 1121 of Levi 3878, with Dathan 1885 and Abiram 48, the sons 1121 of Eliab 446, and On 203 the son 1121 of Peleth 6431, sons 1121 of Reuben 7205, took 3947 [action],

 16:2 and they rose 6965 up before 6440 Moses 4872, together with some 376 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, two hundred 3967 and fifty 2572 leaders 5387a of the congregation 5712, chosen 7148 in the assembly 4150, men 376 of renown 8034.

 16:3 They assembled 6950 together against 5921 Moses 4872 and Aaron 175, and said 559 to them, “You have gone far 7227a enough 7227a, for all 3605 the congregation 5712 are holy 6918, every 3605 one 3605 of them, and the LORD 3068 is in their midst 8432; so why 4069 do you exalt 5375 yourselves above 5921 the assembly 6951 of the LORD 3068?”

 16:4 ¶ When Moses 4872 heard 8085 [this], he fell 5307 on his face 6440;

 16:5 and he spoke 1696 to Korah 7141 and all 3605 his company 5712, saying 559, “Tomorrow 1242 morning 1242 the LORD 3068 will show 3045 who 834 is His, and who is holy 6918, and will bring 7126 [him] near 7126 to Himself; even the one whom 834 He will choose 977, He will bring 7126 near 7126 to Himself.

 16:6 “Do 6213a this 2088: take 3947 censers 4289 for yourselves, Korah 7141 and all 3605 your company 5712,

 16:7 and put 5414 fire 784 in them, and lay 7760 incense 7004 upon them in the presence 6440 of the LORD 3068 tomorrow 4279; and the man 376 whom 834 the LORD 3068 chooses 977 [shall be] the one 6918 who 1931 is holy 6918. You have gone far 7227a enough 7227a, you sons 1121 of Levi 3878!”

 16:8 ¶ Then Moses 4872 said 559 to Korah 7141, “Hear 8085 now 4994, you sons 1121 of Levi 3878,

 16:9 is it not enough 4592 for you that the God 430 of Israel 3478 has separated 914 you from the [rest of] the congregation 5712 of Israel 3478, to bring 7126 you near 7126 to Himself, to do 5647 the service 5656 of the tabernacle 4908 of the LORD 3068, and to stand 5975 before 6440 the congregation 5712 to minister 8334 to them;

 16:10 and that He has brought 7126 you near 7126, [Korah], and all 3605 your brothers 251, sons 1121 of Levi 3878, with you? And are you seeking 1245 for the priesthood 3550 also 1571?

 16:11 “Therefore 3651 you and all 3605 your company 5712 are gathered 3259 together against 5921 the LORD 3068; but as for Aaron 175, who 4100 is he that you grumble 3885b against 5921 him?”

 16:12 ¶ Then Moses 4872 sent 7971 a summons 7121 to Dathan 1885 and Abiram 48, the sons 1121 of Eliab 446; but they said 559, “We will not come 5927 up.

 16:13 “Is it not enough 4592 that you have brought 5927 us up out of a land 776 flowing 2100 with milk 2461 and honey 1706 to have us die 4191 in the wilderness 4057b, but you would also 1571 lord 8323 it over 5921 us?

 16:14 “Indeed 637, you have not brought 935 us into a land 776 flowing 2100 with milk 2461 and honey 1706, nor 3808 have you given 5414 us an inheritance 5159 of fields 7704 and vineyards 3754. Would you put 5365 out the eyes 5869 of these 1992a men 376? We will not come 5927 up!”

 16:15 ¶ Then Moses 4872 became 2734 very 3966 angry 2734 and said 559 to the LORD 3068, “Do not regard 6437 their offering 4503! I have not taken 5375 a single 259 donkey 2543 from them, nor 3808 have I done 7489a harm 7489a to any 259 of them.”

 16:16 Moses 4872 said 559 to Korah 7141, “You and all 3605 your company 5712 be present 1961 before 6440 the LORD 3068 tomorrow 4279, both you and they along with Aaron 175.

 16:17 “Each 376 of you take 3947 his firepan 4289 and put 5414 incense 7004 on it, and each 376 of you bring 7126 his censer 4289 before 6440 the LORD 3068, two hundred 3967 and fifty 2572 firepans 4289; also you and Aaron 175 [shall] each 376 [bring] his firepan 4289.”

 16:18 So they each 376 took 3947 his [own] censer 4289 and put 5414 fire 784 on it, and laid 7760 incense 7004 on it; and they stood 5975 at the doorway 6607 of the tent 168 of meeting 4150, with Moses 4872 and Aaron 175.

 16:19 Thus Korah 7141 assembled 6950 all 3605 the congregation 5712 against 5921 them at the doorway 6607 of the tent 168 of meeting 4150. And the glory 3519b of the LORD 3068 appeared 7200 to all 3605 the congregation 5712.

 16:20 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872 and Aaron 175, saying 559,

 16:21 “Separate 914 yourselves from among 8432 this 2088 congregation 5712, that I may consume 3615 them instantly 7281.”

 16:22 But they fell 5307 on their faces 6440 and said 559, “O God 410, God 430 of the spirits 7307 of all 3605 flesh 1320, when one 259 man 376 sins 2398, will You be angry 7107 with the entire 3605 congregation 5712?”

 16:23 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872, saying 559,

 16:24 “Speak 1696 to the congregation 5712, saying 559, ‘Get 5927 back 5927 from around 5439 the dwellings 4908 of Korah 7141, Dathan 1885 and Abiram 48.’”

 16:25 ¶ Then Moses 4872 arose 6965 and went 1980 to Dathan 1885 and Abiram 48, with the elders 2205 of Israel 3478 following 1980 310 him,

 16:26 and he spoke 1696 to the congregation 5712, saying 559, “Depart 5493 now 4994 from the tents 168 of these 428 wicked 7563 men 376, and touch 5060 nothing 408 3605 that belongs to them, or 6435 you will be swept 5595 away 5595 in all 3605 their sin 2403b.”

 16:27 So they got 5927 back 5927 from around 5439 the dwellings 4908 of Korah 7141, Dathan 1885 and Abiram 48; and Dathan 1885 and Abiram 48 came 3318 out [and] stood 5324 at the doorway 6607 of their tents 168, along with their wives 802 and their sons 1121 and their little 2945 ones 2945.

 16:28 Moses 4872 said 559, “By this 2088 you shall know 3045 that the LORD 3068 has sent 7971 me to do 6213a all 3605 these 428 deeds 4639; for this is not my doing 4480 3820.

 16:29 “If 518 these 428 men 428 die 4191 the death 4194 of all 3605 men 120 or if they suffer 6485 the fate 6486 of all 3605 men 120, [then] the LORD 3068 has not sent 7971 me.

 16:30 “But if 518 the LORD 3068 brings 1254a about 1254a an entirely 1278 new 1278 thing 1278 and the ground 127 opens 6475 its mouth 6310 and swallows 1104 them up with all 3605 that is theirs 1992a, and they descend 3381 alive 2416a into Sheol 7585, then you will understand 3045 that these 428 men 376 have spurned 5006 the LORD 3068.”

 16:31 ¶ As he finished 3615 speaking 1696 all 3605 these 428 words 1697, the ground 127 that was under 8478 them split 1234 open 1234;

 16:32 and the earth 776 opened 6605a its mouth 6310 and swallowed 1104 them up, and their households 1004, and all 3605 the men 120 who 834 belonged to Korah 7141 with [their] possessions 7399.

 16:33 So they and all 3605 that belonged to them went 3381 down 3381 alive 2416a to Sheol 7585; and the earth 776 closed 3680 over 5921 them, and they perished 6 from the midst 8432 of the assembly 6951.

 16:34 All 3605 Israel 3478 who 834 [were] around 5439 them fled 5127 at their outcry 6963, for they said 559, “The earth 776 may swallow 1104 us up!”

 16:35 Fire 784 also came 3318 forth 3318 from the LORD 3068 and consumed 398 the two hundred 3967 and fifty 2572 men 376 who were offering 7126 the incense 7004.

 16:36 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872, saying 559,

 16:37 “Say 559 to Eleazar 499, the son 1121 of Aaron 175 the priest 3548, that he shall take 7311 up the censers 4289 out of the midst 996 of the blaze 8316, for they are holy 6942; and you scatter 2219 the burning 784 coals 784 abroad 1973.

 16:38 “As for the censers 4289 of these 428 men 2400 5315 who 2400 have sinned 2400 at the cost of their lives 5315, let them be made 6213a into hammered 7555 sheets 6341b for a plating 6826 of the altar 4196, since 3588 they did present 7126 them before 6440 the LORD 3068 and they are holy 6942; and they shall be for a sign 226 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478.”

 16:39 So Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 took 3947 the bronze 5178 censers 4289 which 834 the men who were burned 8313 had offered 7126, and they hammered 7554 them out as a plating 6826 for the altar 4196,

 16:40 as a reminder 2146 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 that no 3808 layman 2114a who 834 is not of the descendants 2233 of Aaron 175 should come 7126 near 7126 to burn 6999 incense 7004 before 6440 the LORD 3068; so that he will not become 1961 like Korah 7141 and his company 5712—just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had spoken 1696 to him through 3027 Moses 4872.

 16:41 ¶ But on the next 4283 day 4283 all 3605 the congregation 5712 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 grumbled 3885b against 5921 Moses 4872 and Aaron 175, saying 559, “You are the ones who have caused 4191 the death 4191 of the LORD’S 3068 people 5971a.”

 16:42 It came 1961 about, however, when the congregation 5712 had assembled 6950 against 5921 Moses 4872 and Aaron 175, that they turned 6437 toward 413 the tent 168 of meeting 4150, and behold 2009, the cloud 6051 covered 3680 it and the glory 3519b of the LORD 3068 appeared 7200.

 16:43 Then Moses 4872 and Aaron 175 came 935 to the front 6440 of the tent 168 of meeting 4150,

 16:44 and the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872, saying 559,

 16:45 “Get 7426a away 7426a from among 8432 this 2088 congregation 5712, that I may consume 3615 them instantly 7281.” Then they fell 5307 on their faces 6440.

 16:46 Moses 4872 said 559 to Aaron 175, “Take 3947 your censer 4289 and put 5414 in it fire 784 from the altar 4196, and lay 7760 incense 7004 [on it]; then bring 1980 it quickly 4120 to the congregation 5712 and make 3722a atonement 3722a for them, for wrath 7110a has gone 3318 forth 3318 from the LORD 3068, the plague 5063 has begun 2490c!”

 16:47 Then Aaron 175 took 3947 [it] as Moses 4872 had spoken 1696, and ran 7323 into the midst 8432 of the assembly 6951, for behold 2009, the plague 5063 had begun 2490c among the people 5971a. So he put 5414 [on] the incense 7004 and made 3722a atonement 3722a for the people 5971a.

 16:48 He took 5975 his stand 5975 between 996 the dead 4191 and the living 2416a, so that the plague 4046 was checked 6113.

 16:49 But those who died 4191 by the plague 4046 were 14,700 702 6240 505 7651 3967, besides 4480 905 those who died 4191 on account 5921 1697 of Korah 7141.

 16:50 Then Aaron 175 returned 7725 to Moses 4872 at the doorway 6607 of the tent 168 of meeting 4150, for the plague 4046 had been checked 6113.
